This has to be our favourite site so far.
The weather was pretty awful all week, but the facilities were clean the whole time, the showers were always hot, and despite there being so few I never queued. The washing up facilities were clean and the recycling was good to have on site.
We had an AWP and it was great, especially as it rained so much.
The site is beautifully maintained and laid out. The pitches seem to be rested between use, which is nice.
The welcome from George is warm and friendly, and the help and advice he provides all week is great.
The area is beautiful, plenty of walking, the Elan Valley is lovely.
Llandrindod Wells has a great Tesco and a lovely deli.
The kids had a fantastic time in the lake, and even used the site Kayaks one day.
We have already booked our next trip there.

This is a lovely campsite. Very well maintained with welcoming, friendly and very helpful owners. One of our party broke down just 8 mins from the campsite and the owners offered tow them to the site if needs be.
Good, clean, facilities - washing machines, tumble driers, freezers, fridges; delicious bacon, eggs, milk etc, available to buy on an honesty box basis along with charcoal & logs for the hireable fire pits.
The loos and showers are good - loo roll abounds, but I do feel that a couple more showers are needed. That said, they are free and don't go cold.
Beautiful surroundings, walks for all abilities -free photocopied maps or an OS of the farm available (though pricey) and all sorts of wildlife encouraged - the Red Kites were amazing to watch.
The lake is lovely for swimming, walking around, sitting by and kayaks/dinghies.
If you're into night sky watching you can see the milky way as the site is sympathetically lit so there is no light pollution. Fantastic if you are a city dweller.
Highly recommended. A site where the owners trust and respect their visitors and campers seem to reciprocate in equal measure.

The kids have had a traditional full on holiday no tv no computer games just good old get outside and play with your friends. They played in the lake, walked miles up the hills visited the nearby villages. Kids took part in a charity fun run and loved it.
We sat outside every night beside the camp fire and chatted. Showers kept clean staff so friendly we are arranging a toddler group swap! They even fixed the broken loo at about 10pm (with a very strange tool kit!).
Little sensible things in the campers room like mobile phone charging area, fridge and freezers for campers to use.

Great weekend spent in Fforest Fields. Can only echo the positive comments here. When we arrived the owners were very helpful and directed us to a quiet pitch. As a childless couple it was great to see kids out all playing rounders together, from a distance, while we could enjoy the peace and quiet and sit outside til later without worrying about families in nearby tents.
This place definitely has an old fashioned feel to it. Everyone friendly and relaxed. Getting superb bacon and eggs from the shop when the owners are not about and putting money in the honesty box was so convenient.
This campsite is in a great location, walks and bike rides info are available from the information hut. The hill is tough to cycle up, but there are some great views and routes from the top.
We went to the Indian restaurant (Bilash) in Builth Wells for a meal which I'd recommend.
The shower / toilet blocks are a little tired looking, and only 3 of each meant queues at peak times. Also they're fairly small, so not much space for getting changed. However after returning very wet, cold and tired after getting caught out by the mother of all showers when trying to cycle up the aforementioned hill, the guaranteed hot water from an electric shower was very much appreciated.

We have just returned from a wonderful week at Fforest Fields. It was our first stay here - it was absolutely lovely.
Our pitch was in the field overlooking the sports field. The views were beautiful. In one direction was the valley, opposite was the forest on the hill, and the other had sheep on the hill. It was so peaceful, great to just relax with a cuppa admiring the surroundings. From my pitch, I watched red kites swooping down from the forest - when the tractor was mowing the field.
This field had hookup pitches on one edge, with non-hookup (mainly tents in the middle). There was loads of space for the children to play badminton, footie etc, alongside their pitch. In addition there was a huge field for kite flying etc.
The supplies from the honesty fridge were delicious, especially the mega thick bacon slices in rolls from the freezer - yum!
The showers were excellent. Temperature controlled, clean & hot. The loos & sinks were always very clean. There is a mop on hand & cloths if needed. I was surprised by other reviews - the facilities are not ultra modern, but perfectly clean and adequate. I loved peeking at the baby swallows who were nesting in the porch - every time I visited the ladies loo :)
We had a campfire a couple of times during our stay - and watched the meteor showers. I have never seen so many stars. It's the first time I've seen the milky way (light pollution in Surrey) It was brilliant.
Television reception is a bit hit and miss. There were tall aerials to borrow - but we couldn't get a signal. It was a nice change though, not to have the tv on in the evenings.
The site is very popular with walkers. We are certainly not walkers, preferring to take the lazy options! We loved the area. Particularly 'the common' the lane that leads over the hill to Llandrindod Wells. We parked, had a picnic and flew a kite several times up on the hill, alongside the sheep. The views are superb.
We visited the Red Kite feeding station at Gigrin Farm. The Elan Valley trail was spectacular - we drove along all the lanes, lots of big drops which was a bit scary! The Spaceguard centre & observatory at Knighton was interesting for adults and older children too.
The Severn Stars pub was superb - delicious steak & ale pie, even the chips were homemade, great cider. Shame about the Hundred House pub though - my steak was inedible, and the landlord was unfriendly/rude.
When we are next in Wales - we will certainly be staying again at Fforest Fields - this is camping as it should be. I hope it remains just the same.

We have just spent a week here and it is perfect in so many ways. Quiet, secluded, beautiful scenery, charming hosts, good facilities(showers do what they are supposed to do, with plenty of hot water). Beautiful lake and walks so close at hand.
We saw a meteor shower and Will paragliding off the hills too (not at the same time I hasten to add.) This is a Wonderful site for relaxing and forgetting about the 'real world'.I would definitely return.

This is one of the loveliest sites we have stayed on and lived up to all the other reviews on here. From the first welcome on arrival to being waved off on departure, it was a wonderful experience. Katie, George, Will and family made us feel extremely welcome during the whole visit.
Pitches are very generous and very sympathetically spaced, in that you are not generally looking out at another unit, all of the pitches are among lovely greenery, with the planting very clearly thought out to provide natural protection and a degree of privacy.
The toilets and washing up areas are kept very clean, the toilets and showers have received some negative comments on here but I found them perfectly adequate and I never queued once for a shower.
While there is no shop on site, local produce is available in the fridge in the office, this is available any time of day with money going into an honesty box, as does the money from using the washing machines and tumble dryers. There are two camp fridges, two freezers and a microwave available, all free of charge.
The site itself is beautiful enough with stunning views in all directions, but the addition of the lake is fantastic, with kayaks and a dinghy available to borrow, again for a donation - all of which go to charity - the kids can spend hours sailing, swimming and jumping off the jetty. It's not only the kids that love it, it's brilliant for dogs too, the only problem was we couldn't get ours out!
There is also a well stocked fishing lake on site and lovely walks straight off the park.
A new Tesco has just opened in Llandrindod as well as an Aldi for shopping and lots of other smaller shops and takeaways in Builth Wells.
Some lovely places to visit in the area, would particularly recommend the National Showcaves near Llandovery, a great day out and also the Red Kite feeding centre.

Visited as part of a bigger group (all tents) with young children (under 5's) and a couple of dogs.
Site location is great and easy to find - site itself is lovely and big and there is plenty of room between tents, even on the bank holiday.
A very organised site with a reception hut for booking in and getting information. Lots of help with things to do both on the site and around and about.
The site is great just to walk around and the lakes provide some water sports if you're into that sort of thing. Our kids loved it and had a great time just hanging out.
The facilities are generally good, with usual toilets and showers and a separate dish washing facility. They are also keen on recycling which is good.
We didn't need to go outside the site for entertainment but we did venture out a couple of times - to the local play barn when it was raining and also a trip to Builth Wells.
Unbelievably we had frost overnight and with a 2mths old baby this was quite a challenge - but we layered on the clothes and were fine. Amazingly, having got up early with the baby and seeing the frost outside gave us a chance sighting of hot air balloons taking off over the lake - absolutely fantastic. We all raced off to the lake and watched them set up and take off.
Overall a great stay and would like to revisit again. However, our friend who booked the site on our behalf didn't receive very good customer service and was very upset at the way she was spoken to when there was some mistake over the payment of the bill. This was a genuine error on her part and she was happy to rectify it asap but was made to feel like a criminal. A big shame.

It was the main two weeks and it never felt full.
Site has nice pitches near hedge rows with beautiful views of hills woods fields etc.
Loads of wildlife, walks up to stunning views,
Very laid back owners,we were to leave sunday most sites you are off before 11.00.No leave after dinner no rush we were told.Nice felt like a extra day.
Roads very light, loads of farms selling eggs etc as will the site with a 24 hr access to milk.Eggs. Etc. nice touch!
If you require a quiet site where you can bring all your extras like gazebo, tents.
Neg-- only the washroom I think needs more showers,
Wife said hers was fine !
Most of the time it was clean but as this was the main week I will allow a bit of dirt !
Look forward to going back sometime.
Did I tell you that this is the best dog walking site I have ever seen, loads of paths lakes for swimming if too hot.If your lucky :)

Have just returned from 2 weeks at FF which we chose based on recommendations from the users of this site.
Have to agree with all the positive things everyone says. Showers/Toilets basic but very clean and free - never had to queue even at weekends. Washing up facilities a godsend (saves boiling kettles of water). The all weather pitch for the tent was great - we had good weather but it was still nice to have such a level surface for sleeping/cooking.
Firepit/BBQs great, honesty box system great - dogs and husband swam in the lake. Did the hill walk to the pub and back (have the blisters and calf muscles of steel to prove it). We walked through the woods to the pub at Hundred House for a drink one afternoon but it was shut (at 5.30pm) so check opening hours before you set off).
Plenty of space around our pitch and good privacy with the landscaping. For the most part the site was very quiet and relaxing. Gets busier at weekends and unfortunately our last 2 nights were somewhat spoilt by a couple of large family groups who pitched up 2 campers, 2 tents and a gazebo behind us which they all congregated in at night. Despite the 'quiet after 10pm' rule it was nearer midnight on Friday and Saturday by the time they all stopped talking and went to bed plus there was a lot of noise from children running around from fairly early in the day.
However aside from that most of the people we met were lovely and very friendly.
Nice to see the swallows nesting and lots of rabbits running about.
If you're looking to stay for a longer period than a weekend would recommend arriving late on a Sunday or a Monday for a wider choice of pitches.
Dog friendly site with scamper area and lake for dogs that like a dip. Be aware that there are sheep pretty much everywhere (walks from the camp and in the area in general) so if you can't trust your dog with sheep they won't be able to have much 'off lead' exercise.
Lots of nice places to visit - recommend Hay on Wye for browsing bookshops and nice river walk - also Hergest Croft gardens well worth a visit - dogs allowed and some great plants for sale at good prices. The Elan valley is great for walking - 1 hour walk from the visitor centre in Elan village is another one that's got fab views but some real uphill sections so not for the faint hearted.
Food shopping not great so take what you need with you. Quite a way to nearest shop for supplies and we found sometimes we had to go to a couple of shops to get what we needed. May be a problem in a camper van you don't want to move when parked up. There is a new large tescos being built (opens at the end of July I think) and this should be a great bonus to the area.
We had both sets of in-laws visit us whilst we were there and they stayed at a great B&B up the road recommended by Kate.
Our only reason for not returning would be that we tend to like to go to different areas each year for our main holiday rather than returning to the same place. So if anyone can recommend a Fforest Fields somewhere near east coast beaches in Norfolk, please let me know.
