We wanted peace, lovely scenery and good dog walks.
That is exactly what we got! It was idyllic for us.
Facilities were always clean, staff friendly, and to
Have that view of the hills was lovely.
Bread, bacon and eggs were available to buy, as well as freezer facilities, laundry, tv aerials, barbecues.
We were lucky with the weather, perfect!
Will definitely return!

Beautiful site, we loved the views from our van. No shortage of country walks, we especially enjoyed going right up to the top of the trees. The dogs got to paddle in the lake and as it was hot weather we were pleased with this as they were!
It was peaceful and we will definitely be going back next year.
The showers were hot and there was a mop available to mop up the shower area, so they were mostly clean all the time.
There were bread, eggs and bacon etc in the shop and the laundry facilities looked good. The owner or caretaker was very nice, always made a point of speaking when you came across him.

We pitched near a small stream, it was great for the boys age 11 and 6, with there nets caught newts, tadpoles and other insects and loved every second. It was safe plus we could see them all the time, water about 18 inches max, nice wood bridge, light on it at night over it to shower / wc. The boys loved it, we could relax and chill.
2 lakes here, 1 for boating / swimming, fishing in the other, very poor didn't catch a thing, hope this will improve in time. Nice owners, total relax campsite.
Good for dog owners. If you got young kids its great, if you can camp near the stream which runs through the middle of campsite bring nets, some are supplied at reception free of charge and let them get wet and dirty, let the leaches suck the blood and let them be kids. They will only come back to the tent when they hungry. Will go back here soon.

Visited over the bank holiday & honestly could not fault anything apart from the weather! In a lovely location, very picturesque.
Most important: Loos - super clean. Sinks - spotless. Showers - lovely hot water, decent pressure, again v clean. Hairdryer takes 20p. All good, best I've seen in the UK.
Pub: The Hundred House, approx 15-20 mins walk thru the woods, all well marked and on the flat tho was v muddy when we went. Didn't have food there but beer was fine. You can drive or walk (2.5hrs) to Seven Stars which does nice food. In town please go to the Bilash Indian, this place is amazing! Been 3 times and is really great, highly recommend.
Campsite owners couldn't do enough, the whole site has been done with love,so many little things to help like local info, phone chargers, maps, baby baths, spare fridges, fires to hire, all made this a lovely place. Going back later in the summer to enjoy in the sun!

Quite simply this is the nicest site I have been to so far.
We have a sunncamp vario 600 + porch extension. This fitted with ease on the shingle part of our all weather pitch. The pitch was amazing, soft underfoot with the bonus of no wet groundsheet on packing up. The space around the pitch was huge and even if we had had neighbours there would have been more than enough room.
A few musts whilst on this site.
Hire one of Georges fire pit / BBQ's great for cooking some local fare on then turn into a wood burner for the evening.
Also have some of the bacon and bread available from site, its lovely.
The campers fridges and freezers are a god send for re freezing ice packs.
Shopping wise head to Builth wells for the somerfield at the petrol station and local butchers and fish and chip shops.
In Llandidrod Wells there is a larger somerfield and a LIDL.
This is one site that we will be returning to without doubt.
The showers and toilets were immaculately clean throughout our stay, yes they may be a little bit old, but they are clean with plenty of hot water. I've seen toilets in 5 star hotels in worse condition, and after all most of the day should be sent taking in the wonderful views and surroundings.

What a fantastic site can't fault anything what so ever. The owner and his wife were very friendly & hospitable. The facilities well wow! they were amazing and a massive credit to the dedicated owners. The pitches were spacious level and the grass was kept tidy everything about the site was very good. The view is superb and its not a bad walk to the pub. I must mention the Elan valley as recommended by the owners is a well worth visit, there is a nice easy walk go on.
We are planing to visit again and we have booked to return end of May 2010.
Although we couldn't get a Tv signal with our caravan aerial we didn't need one as the weather was too good to sit & watch Tv. I did ask the owner about the signal and he will lend you one that will work free of charge.

I was rather looking forward to my first visit to Fforest Fields and after reading the mass of positive reviews I was hoping not to be disappointed. Well, why did I worry? This campsite offers all those things that so many over-commercialised sites do not. The welcome was excellent and we were able to choose an excellent tree lined pitch adjacent to a stream.
We spent several days walking and visiting local hostelries. Particularly memorable was the walk to Abedrew to the Seven Stars. The Roast Ox at Painscastle is also worth a visit, if a little difficult to find! On a rainy day we drove to Hay-on-Wye for a second-hand book frenzy. The Red Kites at Gigrin Farm and Elan Valley are well worth visiting too. We spent several evenings at dusk wandering the woods and spotting owls or sitting by a campfire toasting marshmallows. My two daughters of 11 and 15 loved it!
My only criticism is that the toilet block is rather small and at busier times it might get rather overcrowded. Overall though I would agree with everyone else: this is a wonderful campsite!

We've stayed at this site twice now. The first time was four years ago when our eldest daughter was about 9 months old. We have three children now, 4yrs, 2yrs and 6 mths (when we visited)
We enjoyed some nice walks from the site back then without having to use the pushchair (we had a child back pack). Walking for families is still suitable from the site, but the use of a pushchair may be limited. On this occasion we didn't venture far from the site as we had too much fun on their new boating lake and using our little fishing nets on the stream that passes through the site.
The site has been expanded in to an adjoining field and as with the original part of the site the pitches look to be well spaced out. This part of the site is more open with little shelter.
Most pitches are hard standing accessible off the site road or a short drive across grass.
The toilets are not modern, but they are perfectly adequate and clean - no issues here.
There is no children’s play area, but take an inflatable boat and some fishing nets and they’ll have ours of fun.
The site has a new fishing lake too, but I’m not sure what the fishing is like.
Access to the site is fine; we had no problems with our 24ft van.
There is a pub within walking distance. I can recall how long it took us to walk last time, but I recall it mainly on a road with no foot path. There is a short cut across a field, but we avoided this due to rain and mud. We went to the pub on our first visit four years ago, so no point reviewing it here.
Our verdict of the site is that it’s a great 'get away from it all', see the wonderful countryside and sit back and relax sort of site with nice walks for all levels. We will be back and definitely within four years.

What can I say. Our second visit and it was just as great as our first (2006). We arrived on the Saturday of the Hundred House show so it was busy. Found George busy setting up the 10 pin bowling but he found the time to show us to our pitch (great, new all weather type) and took the time to answer our questions even though it was the busiest time for himself.
Weather was fantastic from Tuesday onwards (sunburn on the Wednesday), dogs were worn out with all the great walks in and around the site. Pure, peaceful bliss sitting on the jetty of long lake in the evening sunshine while the dogs swam their hearts out.
We will be back next year (in a touring caravan) and will enjoy our time there again (as usual).

Excellent site-visited with huge trailer tent. Himself being determined to check all the canvas before winter. Bit dubious about all weather pitch at first as pegs lifted really easily-had to buy some really long steel ones in Brecon but appreciated not having to walk on wet grass-we usually don't use ground sheet as we sleep on platforms off the ground.
Chose Pitch 1 near the seasonal caravans which was really really quiet but pitch black after 8ish-you really do need efficient torches to get you to the facilities in the middle of the night.
Not withstanding the kindness of the owners and the peaceful atmosphere of the site as everyone has mentioned before-we will not be back until toilet block improved-we are cisssy townies who like our home comforts! but will be recommending this to our friends-particularly those with adventurous children-those we saw were obviously having the most brilliant time.
