Well what can I say truly an excellent site made very welcome, pitch where you want fantastic views ,very quiet. The facilities are clean and tidy, washing up under cover and loads of hot water plus dog friendly. The weather was fantastic and made for a very relaxing weekend. Will definitely visit again.

Stayed here over the Spring half-term. If you are looking for a 'get away from it all' site then this is the place for you - felt totally relaxed within hours of arriving! Set in the middle of some great countryside - all you hear are the sheep! If you are looking for entertainment, shops and play parks then this is not the site for you.

The site is run by a family and you can usually find some of them around the reception hut from breakfast time till late in the evening. They are very welcoming - nothing is too much trouble - and always went out of their way to talk to everyone passing by - adults, children and dogs alike!

Site itself is split into two areas - one set amongst the bushes and trees and the other an open field. Both were nice, although we prefered (and stayed) in the first area. Pitches were mainly spacious - we saw plenty of huge tents there all with space around them, and there was plenty of hardstanding for caravans and motorhomes. We were on one of their new all weather pitches which was fine, although glad we have a footprint and carpet as is a little harsh on bare feet! Tenters be warned if you intend to stay a week or more - in order to conserve the grass you may be asked to move your tent, unless you opt to use one of the all weather pitches.

The facilities are a little dated and on short supply if the site is full. Having said that they were kept spotlessly clean and must have been cleaned at least 6 times each day during the busy weekend - I even found them cleaning at 12.30 am whilst on a late trip to the loo!So either go out of peak times or be prepared for a wait.

The site welcomes dogs and many people there had dogs with them. Ours loved being there and soon relaxed into the site's atmosphere, enjoying lying in front of the tent watching the world go by. There are some lovely walks right from the site, and also areas to excerise close by for those early and late night walks.

All in all this is a wonderful place if you are looking to relax and enjoy the comradeship of your fellow campers - we have already booked for next year and wish it were closer to home for more frequent visits!

I think that unless you particularly disagree with a previous review then a fabulous site like this, so well reviewed already on UKCS, is difficult to comment further upon. However.

We found the site to be everything that we had read in the UKCS reviews. Beautiful, peaceful and unique. The only (minor) thing that previous reviewers had marked down was the capacity of the shower block, but quite honestly this site appeals to those who admire 'beauty, not Butlins' (so to speak) and that really pales into insignificance compared to the real, tangible benefits this site and the surrounding area have to offer. I was particularly impressed to see a whiteboard for UKCS members to 'sign in' and invite other members to say 'hello'.

The site is part of a large farm, but speaking to the owners the camping side is their real passion now and the animals you see grazing (sheep and cows) are owned by third parties who rent those privileges. Consequently, the landscaping one enjoys on the site (lakes, waterfalls, bridges etc.) are the results of 'out of season' hard work to make this place even more enjoyable for the campers. For example, we had to admire the amount of bridging, drainage, 'signage' and other amenities installed purely to assist guests in their safe perambulation to the local pub one mile away!

Although there is the potential to significantly increase the number of pitches, this is anathema to the owners who are resolved to maintain the character and tranquillity. To that end, this site does not appear to be frequented by the rowdy and boisterous: old, young, singles, families and groups all managed to live harmoniously together.

You are actively encouraged to exploit the amenities and the children thoroughly enjoyed walking, fishing and boating; take your own inflatable dingies. One family even had a very nice canoe!

This is definitely one of those sites one hesitates to review for fear of it being 'spoilt'; please enjoy and maintain the magic.

Just returned from a week at this site and agree with all the previous comments.

May I recommend that you bring a pair of binoculars and make the short climb to the hill overlooking the campsite, there is a bench giving lovely views over the area and most times you will see kites soaring above. Can I just politely mention to all you dog lovers, this campsite is a credit to the owners, but on walking to the fishing lake a few times there was evidence of owners not careful enough in picking up their dogs poo.

As stated by others, this site is a little gem. 5 miles east of Builth Wells, nestling amongst the Brecon Beacons which surround the area.

It was bank holiday weekend when I visited the site and the site was just about at its limit capacity wise, still plenty of room for the campers and never felt that the site was over-full though. The lakes / ponds on and around the site and the countryside walks provided plenty to do whilst on site. Dawn chorus at 5:30am of ducks, birds, sheep and cows with the morning sun streaming through the tent made getting up at that time of the morning a must.

Site facilities very clean and kept so throughout the day. Could use a couple more loos and showers though as at peak times you sometimes needed to queue for these (4 toilets and 3 showers for each sex only). Site staff always present and approachable and ready to give advice on places to visit, or even just to talk about the work that has gone into creating and maintaining the site.

Would have rated this site as a 10 had it not been for having to queue for showers, but this was brought on by visiting at the busiest camping weekend of the year. All in all probably the best site I have visited.

I'm not sure that we can add anything more than previous reviewers have said already - but I will provide my opinion.

We have always avoided this site because it's so close to home - but we now realize our mistake and are thrilled to have discovered [long after everyone else] what an absolute gem it is! How fabulous then that it is only a 40 minute drive from home so we can go at a moments notice =)

We have a touring caravan and stayed in the large sports field. We were able to choose where we wanted to pitch and the angle we wanted to site our caravan (either across the top of the pitch or the usual way). The sports field is great for kids as there is ample space for ball games etc.

If you prefer a quieter pitch away from children there are plenty available. The first part of the site (the original part) is beautifully landscaped and pitches are hidden around every bend.

With it being the Bank Holiday weekend it was very busy and the showers struggled to cope with demand - but it was very hot and people made the most of the lake / swimming etc - hence the showers were doubly in demand. That said, they were always lovely and clean with plenty of hot water.

We loved watching the hot air balloons take off morning and evening too!

Kids had a great time at the lake (and our cocker spaniel learned to swim at last!). We wished that we had known to take our inflatable boat - but will be sure to remember for next time.

Dogs are in their element and there were a LOT there this weekend. Considering just how many there were, there was no mess and no nuisance barking. What model doggies they all were!

This is the kind of site we would run if we were lucky enough to be in a position to do so. Few restrictions, family-orientated (and that includes the four-legged family members), beautifully clean and owners that would do anything to make your stay a pleasurable one.

Just returned home and already I want to return!

What a truly wonderful site.

Brilliant, the best site ever the kids loved it and said it was amazing. Don't know where to begin really but this was the best site I have been to yet. Both the lakes are great. You get to see hot air balloons every morning taking off just over one of the lakes, very tranquil and peaceful. We camped next to the stream which was just bliss to listen to at night also the kids loved fishing for tadpoles and newts. The surrounding hills are a great site especially if your up early and lucky enough to see the mist glide over the lakes as well.

Toilet and shower facilities were great and kept very clean, may be a little busy in the mornings so do pop back later. Electric hook ups are great as well if required. They stock all the essentials like bacon, eggs, yoghurt, milk and water. There is a Spar about 5 miles away if you need the all important alcohol or a pub just up the road.

All they ask if you use the fridge is to put money in the honesty box which I was more than happy to do. Just got back from there an hour ago and have now booked my summer hols to go again. Must just add that if you have a dog there's loads of long walks to take them on. Excellent.

Lovely Quiet site beautiful views. Plenty of places to visit from site. The shower / toilet block is kept very clean at all times. Little extras like communal fridges and freezers a good idea. The fridge in main reception contains milk, bread, bacon, etc. For those times when you run out just when you don't want to go out just relax.
Plenty of places to walk the dogs and if you do like to walk you could for hours. Also very close to Builth Wells Showground. Would recommend anyone to visit

Lovely site! Nicely laid out with lots of space per pitch and a stream with little bridges and a lake to walk around or swim in if it's warm enough.

Only 3 showers but didn't really have to queue for long (or just went back later) despite it being Easter weekend. Honesty shop for bread, milk eggs, bacon etc. Was really useful. They provide bricks for your barbecue to sit on. Pub about 10 mins away but take a torch as need to go over fields or along road (no footpath) and opening times were a bit sketchy perhaps due to Easter weekend. Don't know what the pub's like as it was shut when we got there!

Lots of lovely walks out from the site although dog kept on lead as there were lots of sheep / lambs around. Nice relaxed atmosphere on the site - I'm sure the owners would have a word if you were being very noisy but not the kind of place where you're worried the warden will hunt you down for chatting after 9pm.

Will definitely go back, had a lovely time.

The site itself it situated on acres and acres of farm land, the caravan/camping site is only a small part of the experience. The site is proud of its features and its awards.

Facilities

There is no club house or child’s play park but there are small shallow streams filled with tadpoles and newts. Children can paddle in the stream and small ponds and explore all the different species of pond life. Children can be children here they can make mud pies, play in the trees, use the very large sports field for sports, kites, and running around.

There are two lakes the largest lake is called the Long Lake and this will eventually have Brown Trout in it for those fisherman among you. There are a number of kayaks that can be borrowed for a row across the lake. Or you bring your own inflatable. There is a small jetty for you to land them, and numerous benches along side for you’re to sit and enjoy the view. The second lake is further along the park this is called the Round Lake and has a number of cascades this has been stocked for Course Fishing.

The Toilet/shower block is dated but decent, perfectly clean and does what it should do, planning permission has been granted for a new block but funds have not allowed this to happen this year but it has been revamped, a new floor and painted and decorated. There is a washing up room with hot water, washing machines, tumble dryers, a baby bath and changing mat. Out side the washing up area is a large map of the area, weather reports are posted daily here. Recycling units are here as well along side the waste bins.

Reception is where you arrive, here you will find the camper’s fridge and freezer where you can store your perishables (all free), and there is also a fridge that has locally produced bacon, eggs, milk and orange juice. The freezer next to it has bread and bread rolls to buy. In reception you can find leaflets for the local area, map of the walks/mountain bike tracks that are available on the site, on the rear of this is some local telephone number i.E. Dr’s, vets, pubs, shops, takeaways, tourist areas etc.

Bottled Gas is also on sale here and for a small fee you can rent (proceeds to Air Ambulance) television aerials. Fire Pits are also available to rent on a first come first serve basis. Or you can bring your own, plenty of wood available on the farm site for you to collect to burn.

If you have relative that don’t fancy camping then why not rent the holiday cottage that is on site a little stroll from the camping area

Environment/Conservation

Fforest Fields is a quiet place, even when busy. It is a place to relax and chill out it even has its own quiet area for those that want to be pitched away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the site. All around the site you will notice flowers of all kinds , an abundance of wildlife, sheep and lambs (plenty of them in the fields along side) , Red Kites and other birds ( a haven for all you birders out there), squirrels, rabbits, and other. A highlight for the spring area are the nesting birds in the eaves of the washroom, close enough to see what you wouldn’t normally get to see but far enough away for the parents to teach their young to fledge safely.

Dogs are accepted but basic rules apply, you puppy pops it out you pick it up. Dogs on leashes at all times on the site although there are dog scampers around the site for them to have the freedom they want, and if they need to cool off plenty of fun for them in the lakes.

If you are a walker then the walks to the hills around run direct from the campsite.

In keeping with the conservation and environmental issues that Forest Fields is based on it only shows that recycling plays a bit part to the campsite there a numerous bins for various reclyables and what isn’t there can be found in the local CO-OP store car park.
