Lovely peaceful site, with large level pitches, very clean facilities, with hot showers and plenty of loo roll, but they could do with updating. No shop on site, but there is a supply of Bacon, Eggs, Milk, Juice and Bread you just put your money in the honesty box. This is a very laid back site with just enough common sense rules to ensure everyone enjoys their stay. The nearest supermarket is a Co-op in Builth Wells about 4 miles away and there is a pub in Hundred House village approx 1 mile away. Take a look at the website picture gallery and this is exactly what it is like. Had a really enjoyable few days and will definitely be going back to this unspoilt piece of heaven.

Fforest Fields is situated just north of the Brecon Beacons in a rural area dominated by sheep farms. Set in magnificent countryside there is a view to be had around every corner. About 4 minutes in the car gets you to the nearest pub which serves good food, and well priced. Although it would be wise to book ahead as it is well used. For more shops you have Builth Wells about 15 minutes drive away which should provide you with most other essentials. The site itself has a reception with campers fridge and freezer, together with a produce fridge from which you can buy milk, eggs, bacon etc. with an honesty box for this purpose. Next to reception is a public telephone, and then the main toilet/shower/laundry block. All of these are looked after and cleaned on a regular basis, not only by the site owners, but also by each camper after use. There is not a playground for children, but my 2 certainly had no end of fun criss crossing the little bridges that span the stream running between the ponds that are in between the pitches. In fact the whole site, being set on a farm, has the feeling of being one big nature walk. This is clearly a very special place and whilst I could see that if the site was busier you might have to queue a while for a shower, or you might find that the toilets block is not the most modern you have ever encountered, so what! For the stunning setting, friendly owners who discreetly impose a very few rules, and a price tag that certainly is competetive it gets my vote. This is a proper camping site, for proper campers run by people that care. Long may Fforest Fields be around for others to enjoy.

What a fantastic family orientated site. We arrived Spring Bank Monday and once we had got "our heads" round the laid back routine we quite happily picked a generous EHU site on pitch 2. Whilst going to the shower block at 8.30pm on the Monday night, I stood to one side and all I could hear all around was the sound of children and parents, alike, laughing. To me this summed up the feel of the entire site. Though after 2 days I did ask OH whether the sheep came with a mute button! The only downside to the whole site is the toilet block.but I do believe that this is due to be revamped. The toilet/ shower block is kept clean, but could do with modernising. There are even the facilities available to have a proper campfire, though I was a little annoyed, on behalf of the owners, when someone decided to help themselves to the paraffin lanterns, which it turns out was a 50th birthday present to the owner. Considering the trusting nature of the site this was quite sad. The local town in roughly 4 miles away and is a quaint little village complete with Spar and local butchers. Though the site does not have a play area, the kids were quite happy using fishing nets catching tadpoles in the various ponds. There are plenty of walks for the family dog, but do be aware of the sheep! There are 2 small dog exercise areas on site. Did we enjoy?? Well we will be booking again next year. Definately worth a visit.

Could not fault this site- so much thought has been given to it by the owners. We are a couple of thirty somethings, no kids, like a peaceful drink of an evening, like a good walk during the day with the dog. Just perfect. Read the other reviews for the detail. We did the five hour walk (2 1/2 hours each way) over to the village of Aberdw to the pub there- guess what- pub shut! Still, it's a great walk and all teh farmers and locals we met were really friendly. Certainly one of the best we have stayed on and would be great for singles, families or couples. Well done to the owners for getting it just right!
Oh, nearly forgot- hairdryers and plug sockets in ladies loos are always useful to know of in advance so that you can be prepared for good hair / bad hair! This site has both!

I visited Fforest Fields over for 4 days at the end of May. We had a mixture of beautiful sunshine and torrential rain! On Sunshine days you really get to appreciate the beauty of the site. A walk up the hill is a nice way to spend an hour or so. Rainy days are more difficult as there is little indoor entertainment in the area. We went to the cinema in Builth Wells to entertain the children. Builth Wells itself is not the most beautiful or entertaining town in Wales! A few pubs, tea houses, Indian restaurant (Who deliver to the campsite) and the cinema. Thankfully we only had 1 day of torrential rain in which to entertain the kids so we chose the cinema and a pub lunch. The toilet/shower block were clean at all times, however, 3 (Very small!) showers for a site of this size is totally inadequate. I often had to queue and once inside, there was barely enough room to swing the towel over your head to dry your back! Attempting to put your clean clothes on in the actual shower cubicle required some dexterity, and I am not really a large person. The site was very quite during my 4 days so how people manage to shower during busy periods I don't know. I must admit to feeling a little annoyed at the owners during one of the sunshine days. I was camped quite a distance away from other people and I had my car stereo switched on. In my opinion, in certainly wasn't loud and it was about 6.30pm. I was requested to turn down the volume by Katie. I happily obliged and switched it down. 10 minutes later, out came George and stated that he could hear the music from reception. Perhaps George has bionic ears as the music was NOT loud. Anyway, I switched it down to barely audible level and asked George "Is this volume OK?", to which he replied in quite an aggressive tone. "Please just switch it off! Perhaps this is not the campsite for you!". Anyway, now made to feel like a proper Chav, I didn't argue and switched the music off. I wasn't happy with George's tone at all. However, perhaps George is correct, it is not my type of camp site if you cannot play music on LOW volume at 6.30pm. In summary: The Highs. Beautiful scenery, well kept campsite, generally very helpful owners. Some lovely countryside walking. Abundance of wildlife. On my last day, I finally saw a Red Kite! The lows. 3 very small male showers, 3 very small female showers. Showers hot but not powerful Stern warning to switch music OFF at 6.30pm. Little indoor entertainment nearby for torrential rainy days.

We went to this site at the end of may for the spring bank holiday It is a very spacious site with lots of room around your van,i had my awning up and there was lots of space left for the car The facilities are old but clean and the washing area is very good with washers and dryers and a iron and ironing board There is a pub within a mile but they don't allow dogs and the next closest is five mile away Although i had arranged to arrive early when we rang the owners to find out which site to park on we were told off for turning up at that time,it was just after seven All in all a good stay

What a lovely campsite, the facilities here are modern & clean there was a queue for the showers but the campsite was fully booked so not too surprising. There are separate facilities for men and women but the owners don't mind if small children accompany their parents. The washing up area was very pleasant (we have washed up in some right dingy places), with 4 large sinks and drainers, there are also washing machines and tumble dryers (at extra cost) should you need them. The small camp shop is more than adequate and the owners are very nice. We stayed for a weekend and our children had a thoroughly good time exploring the streams and ponds. Don't forget your wellies and fishing nets if your coming here, you'll need them. The surrounding towns are beautiful and we had a great walk up through the trees and onto the paragliding hill, spectacular views. The only negative thing I can think of is that it is very expensive to stay here, at £20 per night for a family of 6 this is rather a lot and due to that we will return but again it will only be for a weekend.

Visited the weekend before the May Day bank holiday. Site was lovely and quiet which suited us fine. Most people were pitched in the area around the Reception toilet block, but we opted for the field next door which had great views along the valley floor & only a few other units. Surprised how many pitches had EHU, even in the field! The site looks really well thought out & really nicely kept. The loo / utility block was spotless. There was some mechanical digging work being done on a new lake (on the Friday we arrived) but will probably be done by the time this is published. It's the first campsite we have truly slept like logs & not woken til 9.30AM! It would be interesting to see it busy but we're happily off-peak campers & want to keep it that way ;-) The only down side - the shop fridge was shopped out by the time I looked so no local produce for us! During our weekend stay we visited the Elan Valley & also the curry house in Builth Wells. Lovely food & probably advisable to book, it is a v popular choice with the locals. In all a great camp site in a lovely part of Wales, can't wait to return!

All the reviews I have read are all correct. I could not fault anything with this site; it appears that nothing is too much trouble for the site owners. They do everything they can to make your stay enjoyable. There is even an area on the site where noisy children are not allowed! We only stayed for the weekend but we both wish we were staying longer, but alas to enjoy weekends away we need to work to pay for them. We went for an Indian meal in Builth Wells on Friday night and that was superb. The Hundred house pub in the village of Hundred house is very welcoming and there Sunday roast is all home cooked, not frozen mush, the locals and landlady are very friendly. We are definitely going back to this site and are booked in for spring bank holiday weekend. There is only one comment I would like to add that the drive from the road to the site is very dusty, but who cares!
