Just got back from Fforest Fields and we have had a fab time. The site is peaceful and it was difficult to notice the other campers there due to the brilliant way the site is designed. The facilities are well maintained and the fridge and freezer were a nice touch. Hot showers were a bonus!
The location is fantastic, only 1 hour from Bromyard in Herefordshire and close enough to Builth to get a takeaway and bring it back to the tent when we were late back from walking one day. Close to Rhayader (Red Kite feeding place) and Llan'dod Wells. Lots of walks straight from the site and views are lovely. All in all a great site which we will definitely return to!

This is a lovely site. We have been twice. The first time was during term time and mid week. The place was ideal - very quiet and peaceful. There are some great walks from the site, which is situated in the centre of countryside. You can have a different walk every day! The pitches are large and well spaces. The small stream runs through the site and divides up the area providing a pleasant change and varied pitching areas.
We went back for a bank holiday weekend and was a little disappointed. Very very busy. Lots of children running through pitches - not the owners fault. During this busy time, the toilet facilities were insufficient.
There is a small reception hut selling milk, orange juice etc with an honesty box. Very friendly owners. We will definitley go back - but not at a bank holiday.

A gem of a campsite in the Heart of Wales. Set in the wonderfullt scenic hills and mountains 5 miles outside Builth Wells. No shop on site, althought water, charcoal, bacon, sausage, eggs and bread are available fron the fridge and freezer in reception (an honest box is to be used when owners are not around).
A loan of high gain ariel is essential (donatios to the air ambulance). The site is extremely well presented in a very secenic location. The site is set in the centre of a working Welsh hill farm and is a short distance down am track off the main road. Road noice is non existant. The site is very quiet, and the only noise, apart from playing children, is from the sheep in the surrounding fields.
Dog scamper on site for those early morning or late evening doggies needs, and loads of space around for miles of walking. There is no park, but the kids we had with us 8,9 & 11 had loads to do all weekend. The owners are probably the friendliest we have come across, and the site is unspoilt and immaculately kept. One for the must visit again column.

June 2005 I can only endorse what everyone else has said about Fforest Fields. It is a beautiful site, extremely well organised while staying very relaxed. If there is nobody around when you arrive, you choose a pitch and a book is provided for you to put your name and your pitch number into. We were impressed with the "honesty box" system in the shop/reception - even down to paying for your stay. There are TV aerials supplied for a suggested donation of 50p per night to the air ambulance. Everything seems to have been thought of for your enjoyment.
The site itself is beautifully laid out and maintained - unlike some of the other David Bellamy Gold Award sites we've been on recently where nothing is done. Fforest Fields manages to combine a landscaped and attractive site with natural areas for conservation.
We will definitely go back - just a shame it's too far for us to go for a weekend.

May 2005 Would recommend this campsite to everyone wanting a tranquil yet friendly break, right in the heart of mother nature at her best. The hosts George, Katie and family do an absolutly sterling job. You can always find one of them milling around from early morning until late evening should you have any problems or just need any advice or information.
The site is beautifully kept and we found all the amenities always clean and tidy with unlimited HOT showers although a little dated. Our group consisted of two families ranging from mid sixties to teenagers and we all had a wonderfull time. We all agreed that we would definitely return to visit this site again in the not to distant future.
Keep up the good work George and Katie your site is a credit to you. (Camping as it should be!).

June 2005 Excellent site - flat even camping land, with some nice personal touches like fridge and freezer for customer's use.
Very friendly owners with a brilliant attitude to camping folk and views to die for. Not one problem all week and a site even the kids want to go back to.
No on-site club etc which made it perfect for us - definitely one we'll return to.

May 2005 What a great site, I was so relaxed I nearly forgot to go home, going again in August, refreshing not having the feeling your being ripped off. One thing I would say, they could look at the electric, I was running a fridge and anything else just tripped it, that just may be me I dont know, but recommend - it otherwise 10/10

May 2005 Returned from this lovely campsite yesterday. What a great weekend. When we arrived George found us a sheltered spot to pitch our huge tent and introduced our neighbours. The kids loved fishing in the ponds, so if you've got fishing nets take them, it keeps them occupied for hours. The site is also brilliant for bikes, you could let the children go off around the site on their bikes and not worry too much about their safety as everyone drives slowly. I would have liked to go for some walks in the surrounding hills and woods but what with the fishing we did'nt have time!! It was also great to watch the paragliders taking off from the hill and landing in the field next to the site. How nice it is to wake up to the sound of sheep and birds. The toilets and showers are quite basic and there could be more of them but they are kept very clean with plenty of soap and loo roll. There are also washers and tumble dryers for a modest fee, and not forgetting the supplies of milk, eggs, bread etc with honesty box to pay for them. This is a really nice friendly site that I'm sure will suit all ages and I am looking forward to visiting again in the future.

April 2005 Excellent! What a lovely site. Set in a very quiet area just outside Builth Wells (5 miles), this site is what camping and caravanning was made for. Very friendly owners, there are a few on site provisions (bread, eggs, bacon, milk and butter.....everything you need for a hearty English brekkie!) with an honesty box. Free TV aerials for you to borrow, which you WILL need (!) as this site is in a valley surrounded by hills and forest. Lovely paths and pools around the farm, which you are allowed to wander freely on. The site itself has a stream and shallow pools running through it, which is great for children to wade in, and they are encouraged to do so. The wildlife is abundant, first time I've ever heard a cuckoo! Can't wait to re-visit this site.... congratulations to George & Katie on a truly lovely experience.

March 2005 A lovely peaceful and friendly site. All you can hear is bird song, so very tranquil. Builth Wells is a short drive away, and a pub serving nice food and real ales is within walking distance. Set in a beautiful area, with the Elan Valley within easy reach. We lost count of the number of Buzzards and Red Kites we saw over our stay!
We had a great break here, just what the doctor ordered. We loved the simplicity of the site, honesty boxes etc, it creates a really nice feel. The only thing on the downside is that the current toilet and shower facilities are cramped - however plans are afoot for replacements.
I would put this site on the list to go back to.
