Another fantastic Jubilee week at Fforest Fields.
The new facilities are fabulous, lovely and warm. The weather while we were there was so horrendous we took the decision that if the tent gave way during the night we would take our sleeping bags into the facilities and get a good night's sleep there! We had our eye on the laundry room!
A previous reviewer said the facilities were at times not the cleanest. This was purely down to the previous users of the loos, not the owners who kept the facilities very clean.
Builth Wells and Llandrindod Wells have everything you need. A small Co-op at Builth and a large Tesco, Aldi & Co-op at Llandrindod.
Our friends took a firepit and one bag of wood usually lasted all night.
There are 2 family bathrooms which we didn't use as our kids are not so small now, but they looked great and we would have loved them if our kids were small.
Plenty of washing up sinks with an extra sink in the fridge/freezer room if you needed it.
The site is very well drained and not near a river which meant while parts of Wales flooded, were were dry in our tent.
All in all 10/10 again for a fab site.
Just a couple of niggles (just to be a bit picky!)
There are 2 washing machines and 2 dryers but due to the horrendous weather and very full site this was not adequate. However I understand the owners are due to get industrial ones shortly which will help a great deal for those of us whose kids are constantly in and out of the lake!
Eight loos, but only one hand dryer, a second one would be nice. Maybe more than one plug socket?
Lots of dogs 'on the loose' this time (not experienced this before at FF). I understand that occasionally dogs escape, ours has, but I'm talking about owners walking their dogs around the site itself without a lead. There are plenty areas where dogs can be off the lead, it does not need to be around the site itself.
The site was very full over the Jubilee bank holiday weekend, and lost a little of its usual charm. Still much better than other sites we have been to over b/h weekends though.

Always a pleasure to stay here with hosts George and Katie and family. Always very well kept with fantastic dog walks directly on and around the site.
Pitches are generous, level and well spaced. Visiting children seem to have a great time in the lake, swimming and boating. The other lake is for the fishing folk.
Lovely eggs and bacon and fresh bread etc in the small shop and help on hand for aerials, fire baskets and so on. We stay here once or twice a year for shows at Builth Wells just 15 mins down the road.
Looking forward to visiting in Oct 12 and trying the new shower block which looks wonderful on the website.

Have just returned from 7 nights at FForest Fields, despite the fact that we enjoyed rain everyday , the site itself was great.
We arrived on the Saturday that the local village show took place in the sports field/overflow area adjoining the main site. It looked a cracking show with the gig racing proving really spectacular in the rainy conditions.
As for the site itself, our view is that it seemed to comprise mostly of good size level piches with plenty of hardstanding, water points and EHU.
The loo/shower block proved adequate although for the more rounded members of our party it was tight squeeze. That said the cleanliness in general and constant cleaning by George ensured that the facilities where always kept spick and span and very clean.
The fact that there are only 3 showers in the mens and a similar amount in the ladies was never a problem during our stay. My Wife and I never had to wait or queue.
The location below a pine wooded hillside was great and you can enjoy a wide variety of walks direct from the site.
Our 2 dogs would give the site 10/10 for this alone and the 2 on site lakes with free canoeing (provided by the owners of the site) are a bonus for youngsters as well as dogs that need a dip.
The honesty box scheme seems to work well and we found that the stocking of the essentials (in the reception/shop) such as fresh free range eggs, locally produced bacon (lovely thick slices and really tasty), as well as milk, bread & rolls, orange juice, butter and all of the essentials will ensure a hearty breakfast.
The local scenery is awesome do ensure that you take a short drive up to the lakes and dams. You will be well rewarded with further fantastic views and walks that can be as long or short as you wish.
If you hark back to the days when camping and caravanning was really relaxing and sites where not centred around all action activities, bars and amusements then Fforest Fields will be right up your street.
The bonus of nature right on your doorstep in totally unspoilt surroundings affords plenty of wildlife opportunities, spectacular and stunning scenery and the opportunity even in very poor weather to chill out.
The stars are incredibly visible on cloud free nights a no significant light pollution in this area so take your bino's
If you need them laundry facilities are available on site, the washing up facilities proved fine with free hot water as per the loos and showers. The site owners have even provided free phone charging facilities on site just in case you need them.
All in all a cracking traditional camp site at very reasonable cost. Thanks for a great stay and best wishes for continued success.

This was our first visit to Fforest Fields after reading all the reviews and worrying if it was as nice as what people were writing! We need not have worried as it was even better than expected. The views and walks from the site are fab, we could walk for hours with the dogs. The lake is lovely and a little boat of some sort is a must for children. Our 7 year old daughter realised she was a rowing ace and spent hours rowing herself or me and her dad up and down. The Sky on a clear night was breath taking! My little girl saw her first shooting star! We took some fat balls and hung them from the tree opposite and were rewarded with birds coming and going all day. There is so much wildlife about, We even got a close up photo of the local Buzzard. He was sat in a tree up in the forest above the camp. The camp itself is so peaceful and safe. The children were riding bikes and having a great time. The toilets were fine and always clean. The little shop and laundry were great too. The local Tesco and Aldi were not as far as I thought and we went a few times. We will be returning next year but for longer this time as a week was not enough for us. Try it, you will not be disappointed!

Stayed at Fforest Fields in the middle of summer campathon.
Just me and my daughter - left my wife at home working and son was at his grandparents. I know the area well as my parents only live 30 mins away, hence never having visited the site before.
Weather was pretty lousy, rain, a tad chilly. We were directed to pitch in a quiet corner which did slightly disadvantage us in terms of contact with fellow campers.
I think enough has been said on here about the site, my own experience was pretty good although the weather didn't help.
My observation is that they will have to upgrade the facilities at some point in the not too distant future. A new toilet/shower block would really set this place apart. That said, they may be old and dated but are clean.

This is our second visit to this site, which says it all.
This time the weather was against us, but never the less our boys (9 and 13) had hours of fun in the lake, swimming, Kayaking and playing with the other children. Myself and my husband also ventured in with our newly acquired Kayaks.
I think this site offers everything you need. The location is second to none and enough on site for the children. Builth is accessible via bike (downhill on the way uphill on the return)
Would definitely visit again

Once again a great visit to this wonderful site. Even though the weather could have been a little better we all found plenty to do, In my case sitting and reading while the kids made more new friends and played all day.
It is fantastic. Although the toilet block could be a little better, and this is being updated this year, it doesn't distract from the whole feel of the place.
I think its this, the whole feel of the place which makes it so good. Its relaxing and friendly. The kids love it so it makes it easier for the Adults

We decided to try Fforest fields for our first proper camping trip in August, based on the location and reviews.
It was fantastic and we hope that we haven't set ourselves up for disappointment in future (assuming we can bear to try other sites).
We were greeted by the owners on arrival and shown a fantastic flat and sheltered pitch near the reception and toilets. I was a bit worried that it might have been noisy but there was only 1 night when there were a lot of kids around until late (about 11pm). For a large site it was very quiet. The pitch was sheltered by trees and a hedge which was appreciated when the wind picked up.
We had an all weather pitch with electric hook up. It was raining slightly when we arrived and there had been showers all day so we decided to wait before pitching our tent. The rain got heavier and heavier so this proved a mistake.
As novices, we were really struggling and 2 of the staff took pity and helped us get it up enough so that we could manage. The all weather pitch kept us dry in some bad weather but you do get a lot of stones in the tent. I'm not sure if we would choose one again.
The toilets and showers were spotless. They are in need of updating but this is to be done at the end of this year. The showers are a bit small but I was surprised to find that 3 proved adequate and I only had to wait once in a busy week in August.
The lake with kayaks was lovely but even the kids were wearing wetsuits so we decided it must be cold. We will have to return with wetsuits to try it out.
There is a pub about a mile away and there is a waymarked route on the owners land. This can get muddy but there is an alternative route if it is really bad. The pub food in the village was a bit hit and miss but the beer was quite good. Try one of the other local pubs for food.
The honesty box for food seems to create a trusting and considerate atmosphere. Fridges, freezers, microwave and mobile phone charging are all great extras.
This site has also made an effort to encourage wildlife with landscaping, streams etc. On our last morning we were visited by a tiny frog in our tent. When we packed it away, we discovered a newt had been living between our footprint and tent, presumably courtesy of the significant amount of water which had gathered there when were putting it up!
Fantastic people, location and atmosphere. We will definitely return.

What a star the lady on reception is, she couldn't do enough. Clean site with some excellent extra's, fridges, freezers, superb free phone charging facility, shop with an honestly box in a stunning location.
Down side. Only one shower block with three showers each sex, I walked in one morning at only 8am and there was five ladies waiting. It is a huge site and really needs another block and the other thing no lights round the site, some round the toilets and the small bridges
All in all a super site, well run and very clean.

Sorry but this is going to be yet another endorsement for this true gem of a site. We arrived in a fairly stiff breeze and were greeted and thoughtfully guided to a pitch out of the direct blast of the wind.
As others have said, the owners are very friendly and do a great job keeping the place in great condition. Grassed mown, no litter, well stocked quality food to buy at sensible (not cheap) prices, use of the freezers and fridges, loads of useful info. Ok so the the loo's and showers could do with a little refresh but other than that, this place is a little slice of heaven on earth.
Take the time to walk 'up the hill' and enjoy the stunning views. Drive into Llandrindod and Builth, both lovely little towns. Then turn the sat nav off and just get lost in the surrounding countryside for a few hours. The Powys countryside is stunning.
Beware, this is really not somewhere for those who like to party into the night. Possibly best suited to families, so if you're offended by kids playing and you need late night sessions you'd best look elsewhere.
Please note: My 7/10 for Site Facilities reflects the fact that we only used the WC's/Showers on site and therefore only relates to them. There are many other fantastic facilities - fishing/boats etc we did not use.
