We visited this camp site on May bank holiday and I have to say it did not seem crowded or busy. There was a big field with only a handful of tents scattered around.
A lovely site hidden away in a valley.Fantastic views of the surrounding countryside and the web site explains it as it is.
The toilet cleanish with plenty of toilet roll and shower cubicles were small but with electric showers that were free. There is also washing machines, tumble dryers, ironing board with Iron.
The site owners were very friendly and helpful and came to the site when phoned to jump start our vehicle.
A gem of a site and would totally recommend, especially for families as there was a big field for the kids to play on and they were visable from the tent.

Decided to go here after seeing the reviews and positive feedback on this site. We were certainly not disappointed. As you drive into the site you realise you are in a really special and beautiful place. The scenery and views are fantastic. The owners were very friendly and helpful.
We were pitched near the stream that runs through the campsite - the kids spent most of their time in here or by the lake(those with younger ones would need to keep a careful eye with all the water around)or just playing with new friends. We had loads of space around the tent and use of one of their wooden picnic tables. We were very lucky with the weather and just sitting, looking at the views relaxing with a book and a glass (or two!) of wine was lovely. We also did one of the walks around the site.
Showers and toilets are admittedly not new but were obviously freshly painted and kept clean- the washing up area is inside in the same block and there were washers and dryers in this room as well. Reception had a few essentials milk, bread (so nice we brought some home!), bacon etc and was open all the time so you could have access to these and the fridge and freezer.
We will definitely be returning, this is a very special site. Am so glad I know what all the fuss is about now!

After reading previous excellent reviews, decided to stop off here before travelling down to the Pembrokeshire Coast.
Stayed for two nights and was not disappointed. The site is really fantastic & situated in a beautiful location. The pitches & shower/toilets are maintained to a very high standard. There are lovely woodland walks on the hillside forest that overlooks the site. From here you can enjoy the wildlife & stunning views of the valley. Builth Wells is approximately 5 miles away and is a very nice Welsh town. Here you will find a fairly large COOP supermarket, a good selection of shops. Pubs & take-aways. There is also a local Cinema, showing the latest releases.
I would highly recommend this camp site. For the discerning camper Fforest Fields is well worth a visit.

WOW. Just come back from 1 idyllic week on this site and had to get on their web site to revisit what we had left and re-live the beautiful, peaceful tranquil site and views on line. This will have to do until we visit again. Nothing negative to say at all. I found no fault with the showers or toilets, in fact, given some previous comments about them being aged - I thought I was using the new facilities when I got there as they are not that bad, they are very functional - if the new facilities were to charge, as most sites do, then you would hear people complain! The best dog friendly site I have been to. Two dog scampers on site and as soon as you leave the site (2 minutes walk) there are hills, forests and fields they can run free on for miles (as long as they are not inclined to chase sheep!). The owners have developed a boating/swimminglake and are in the process of developing a fishing pool. Take a map, visit surrounding areas, chill out, relax, I cannot give this site enough credit.

Fforsest fields is an oasis of calm. It has a variety of level spacious pitches, some with a quiet field.
There are shallow streams & bridges to keep children occupied.
The owners Katie & George gave a us a warm welcome & were not far away. There were theremo blocks for barbecues & fire baskets to hire. At reception there was a fridge for campers use, & another stocked with basic local produce, anything else can be bought in Builth a short drive away.
Although we were her over the wet Whit weekend the showers were always clean & had hot water. There is a spacious laundry& washing up area.
From the site there are some lovely walks& is a great place for exploring the Elan dam&mid Wales.
If you want a commercial site, with a clubhouse & playground then please don't come here.
However if you are looking for a peaceful well maintained site then you need look no further.

This site is a must for anyone whether you have children or not. It is the most beautiful site we have ever visited. The scenery is stunning. The fee was so cheap, £20 per night for a large tent 2 adults, 3 children and electric hook up was a steal! The facilities are superb, especially the honesty box - the best ideas are often the simplest ones. The site owners are so friendly and welcoming, and the pitches are wonderful, no sticks or thorns, no stones or uneven surfaces. The swallow chicks in the utility block roof and the visits from the hedgehogs into our tent at night time were a real bonus too! We visited during the bank holiday, and although the site was full it didn't feel crowded, just peaceful and relaxing. (Incidentally, we didn't have to queue for showers loos etc despite the bank holiday and there were five in our group.) At 10pm every night quiet descended over the site ensuring a peaceful night for all. Perfect for families with children, friends, couples etc. Perfect for walkers, cyclists and those just wanting to sight see or chill out. We will definitely be going back to this site. After five nights we felt completely relaxed and refreshed, the only down side was having to leave and we can't wait to go back!

Visited over the BH weekend and it was fantastic. Even though the site was full there was still plenty of space in the far field whilst still being close enough to the toilet/shower block. As reported by others, the toilets/showers are kept immaculately clean. Despite the full site I did not have to queue for more than five minutes for a shower during the weekend. Have to agree with other reviewers on the peaceful surroundings. The only real noise we heard was from the buzzards in the woods nearby and from the hot air balloonists setting off from the corner of the field in the mornings and evenings. What with these and the odd para-glider landing in the field during the day it's great free entertainment! Visited the local hostelries during the stay. Hundred House Inn is a 20 minute stroll along the main road. You can also reach it via a path from the campsite that follows a small stream. Watch out though for nettles and boggy patches. Very pleasant pub when you get there- friendly locals, good beer and good food. Also made the hike over the hill to the pub in Aberedw. It was a glorious walk that took about two and a half hours to cover the 5 miles. Waymarked along the entire route so we hardly had to look at the map. Fantastic views of the Wye valley along the way and utterly peaceful. We only met four others during the walk. They recommend that you book places in the restaurant before setting off. Great Sunday lunch on offer. Can't tell you if it's easy to make the return journey as we bottled out and got a lift back to the site with fellow campers who had a car! If I had to choose just one positive point about this place it would be the owners obvious commitment to their venture. Their dedication means that they will do everything possible to make sure that you enjoy your stay and that their site is as nice as possible for you when you visit. We're definitely going back.

What a fantastic site. Beautifully kept, acres of space, simply idylic. Plenty to keep the kids happy on site and the most beautiful walks. This site is clearly the pride and joy of the owners. I visited just after the extremely heavy rains and there were a few pitches that were still sectioned off but that was the only evidence of the extreme weather we have experienced this year. Can't wait to return with just my husband to show him what I have been raving about.

Disappointed with this campsite. Be assured there is no facilities for the disabled despite what they may say. The toilets are in need of a overhaul and with only 3 showers units be prepared to queue for a shower. Thats when they are working. More than once they had problems resulting in only 2 showers working.
The worst thing's about this this site is the following.
1. If cooking outside be prepared to cover your food with a coat of dust. The circuit around the road is very poor and you will find your burgers and sausages with a nice coating with dust. There is no respite from the dust as cars, caravans, kids on bikes, local taxis, motorhome's etc etc just churn up the dust regardless of keeping to the site speed limits.
2. Being told to keep the noise down at 2145 when we were not being noisy just sat around the table chatting in one corner of the site. We all went to bed at 2230 but the way they came over like some sort of night time police force just served to ensure they got back what they gave.
Still the views in the site are excellent, the pitches are big enough although we had some problems with having to keep resetting the trip on the RCD.
The owners seem nice enough but there is much more to be done to make outstanding.

Following all of the positive reviews of this site, we decided to visit for the August Bank Holiday with our two daughters (ages 8 and 6) and I am so glad that we did. This site has to be one of the best managed and most picturesque sites that we have ever come across. George and Katie Barstow (owners) have created an absolute gem and demonstrate total commitment to the well being of their guests which is evidenced by their seemingly constant presence on the site. The camp fridge which is well stocked with the most fantastic thick cut, home cured bacon, orange juice, milk eggs and sausages and is freely available (so long as you leave your money in the honesty box!) which is a revelation in itself. If only the rest of today's society was as open, friendly and trusting as Katie and George, the world would be a much better place. I sincerely hope that nobody seeks to take advantage of the trust that they have placed with people who are complete strangers to them, since it would be a travesty if such little (but important) things were to change. The whole campsite is a playground and is ideal for children who can play in complete safety. During our stay, the commitment of the owners was amply demonstrated when the 'Campers from Hell' arrived in the form of three women who seemingly did not appreciate the concept of quiet and tranquillity - however they were swiftly asked to leave! In summary a fantastic site, managed by owners who are truly committed and one for the favourites list!
