This is a great site, it is kept really clean and grass cut regularly, some comments have mentioned the toilet and shower facilities, these are due to be upgraded for 2011, but we had no problems with them, hope it still keeps the same atmosphere once they are complete.

We spent one week here with our dog, went on some beautiful walks from the site if you don't want to use the car, there is easy access to other areas of Wales.

The Red Kites are an amazing sight and the skies are unbelievable.

We will definitely be returning.

We have just returned from a 4 night stay. We have a large tent & we had a choice of pitch & all are very spacious.

We were greeted with a warm welcome which is hard to find in some places lately.

The facilities are more than adequate. They maybe dated but very clean. I didn't have to wait for showers once for myself or my 2 girls.

The site has some fantastic views & walks. Kids, dogs & 'big kids' all love the boating lake, great way to cool off on a warm sunny day. The site is well designed with a variety of pitches, from small flower bed/ hedge edged places to the large field with vast open space.

Great to have the use of fridges & freezers. A couple of small towns nearby for shopping or take aways so all in all makes for a quiet, relaxing holiday. If you want an all singing dancing site then its not for you.

We have just returned after a 6 night break at Fforest fields. It is a very relaxing campsite the only entertainment for children and adults alike being the lakes and walking. The fishing lake didn't seem to be used much while we were there but the other lake was very popular and had 2 kayaks which are kept locked up but you can borrow them to use (adults must obtain the key).

The (ladies)4 toilets and 3 showers were perfectly adequate and regularly cleaned, I only had to wait for a shower on one occasion and there are sponges and mops etc for you to clean up after yourself which encourages people to leave things clean. They were also free to use. The dishwashing area was also clean and had washing machines and tumble dryers available to use for a small charge.

There are many walks around the site and the site is very popular with dog owners probably because of the walks.

The campsite was quite busy but never felt crowded and there were plenty of spare pitches, and the grass was being cut all the time we were there to keep the site tidy, the cuttings were always collected so you didn't walk grass into your tent all the time which we have had on numerous other sites.

There are fridges and freezers for campers use and basics like milk, bread, bacon and eggs etc are available to purchase from the shop you put the money in the honesty box so take plenty of change with you.

We were pitched in the sports field, a large open area but there are lots of pitches which are more sheltered and we would request one of those next time as they felt warmer in the evenings.

Firepits are available to hire at £3 a night but are very popular so many people take their own, we will do this next time as the everchanging weather made us reluctant to hire one. Bags of wood are also available to purchase from the reception at £5 a bag, but many people seemed to gather wood from the walks around the site.

This is now our favourite UK site and luckily its only 2hrs from home so we are hoping to return again and again. Its hard to explain why we love this site, its just got that something special!

We arrived on a wet and windy Friday afternoon to a lovely welcome from George. The pitch was a great size and as newcomers to caravanning the pitches were mostly flat, we just needed a ramp on one side to get level.

The all weather pitches really are a great idea and with just a breathable groundsheet I could still walk about inside the awning barefoot. The flowers around the site were wonderful, the loos and showers always spotless as was the dish washing area.

The site was quiet the whole weekend and at night you could hear a pin drop. The honesty fridge is fantastic, the smoked bacon really is delicious and our kids loved the bottles of orange juice. A great addition since our last visit is the campers kitchen with fridges, freezers and a microwave.

There's also a small selection of books and magazines as well as mobile phone charging. The whole surrounding area is lovely, we walked up the hill one evening and the views were fabulous.

I did get a couple of nasty bites so recommend taking insect repellent!

I celebrated my 40th birthday while there and we had an excellent sunday roast at the Roast Ox Inn at Painscastle. At £7. 95 a head it was great value and the vegetables were very imaginatively done and delicious. We did book a table which I would recommend as it gets very busy.

Shopping wise we took a lot with us but found the Coop in Bulith to have a good selection of stuff too. Our kids took advantage of the free canoes (key from reception)and had a great time on the lake. Our son enjoyed the free fishing too.

To sum up, we love this place. Its peaceful and so relaxing.

The site is in a lovely location with excellent access to the hills allowing good walks straight from the site. It is tidy around the site and well laid out. The local provisions via an honesty box provided good quality essentials and good local info. Was available.

The toilets (housed in a sort of chalet/temporary building) were ok but only three showers in the mens resulted in daily queues and the site was not full. The showers were pokey, you had to step into the shower tray to get through the door (the changing area square was the width of the door), leaving little room to get changed/dry. I personally thought the toilet/shower block could do with a makeover, it looked/felt tired and corners were grubby.

The wifi barely extended 30ft from the transmitter which was disappointing.

This site is the best one we have been to. The pitches are big enough for our van plus large awning and you are not crammed in like some sites.

On arrival you find a pitch you like and put your fees in the honesty box where you also pay for bread, sausages, bacon, eggs, milk and orange juice.

The site is beautifully maintained with streams and flowers. Our dog loved the lake and the walks surrounding the site. We found the shower block to be everything we needed- plenty of hot water and spotlessly clean.

There are only 3 showers so you need to be flexible as to when you want to use them.

If you want a site where you can pitch up and not drive anywhere then this is perfect as you have the basic food, a pub just down the road and countless walks straight from the site which you can make as long or as short as you like going over hills and through forests.

A bonus was to see the swallows which were nesting in the roof of the shower block, you could get within a few feet of them. We had the most relaxing time and can not fault the site in any way and was well worth the drive from Norwich.

Stayed at loads of camp sites and this one comes in the top ten. We were lucky, we had sunshine and that does make a difference. The site is lovely and clean, stayed there three nights and didn't see one bit of litter. The pitch was level, close to the amenities - toilets/showers/reception etc. They have freezers and fridges and you can also use the microwave. The owners put a lot of trust in those using the site - if you buy anything from the 'shop' in reception, you leave your money in a honesty box. There is also free use of items for the big lake - canoes (or whatever they're called). There are lots of walks around the site, loads to explore. Take a hike up the hill and be rewarded with the picturesque countryside. Keep your eyes peeled for the Red Kites, we saw loads and I still got excited when I spotted another one. Take a trip to Builth Wells, a quaint town and then go on to Elan Valley where the views are breathtaking. Watch out for sheep on the road though! The local pub was friendly and although we didn't eat there, the prices seemed reasonable - £6. 50 for Sunday Lunch. Don't debate whether to go - just go.

I have reviewed this site in 2010, and haven't changed my mind. It is the only site we have gone back to, as we really want to stay at different places on our trips, but I think this will be an annual visit for a few days at least as we love it here.

The surrounding view is lovely to look at and to walk up the hill in the trees!

Always clean and tidy, lots of space and good walks with the dogs. Friendly site, and good bacon for sale! We enjoyed the walk through the fields to the pub, a glass of cider outside in the sunshine.

This is a place to get away from it all, or to tour from.

This is truly a fantastic campsite. Its Janet and John stuff. The scenery is fantastic, the layout superb and the owners delightful.

There is a nice lake at the back where most of the kids end up playing. I was worried about the all weather pitches, but I needn't have been they were delightful.

The facilities, whilst a little basic are perfectly clean. I know they are to be upgraded at the end of the season.

There are plenty of EHU places. There is no shop as such but the basics can be bought on site, and you can't beat their bacon.

The thing is, it was always me who pushed the camping, but after FForest fields my wife has taken over, new tent, better equipment etc. It really made camping for her.

Now the bad point. I spent ages planning our holiday to france this year. We got back from FF threw all those plans away and booked again for summer. All those wasted hours.

I hope you all get a chance to visit, its that good.

We stayed here for 5 nights late May early June, I can't say much more that's not already been said but the site is perfect, its one of the best we've been to.

We arrived bank holiday monday to find that we were to be pitched on an all weather pitch, which backed onto the lake, it was all very nice but to be honest I'm weary of ripping my ground sheet ( has it has happened before now) and also that my tent is massive and wouldn't of fit on that pitch, so I asked the owners if they could pitch us somewhere else, to which they gave me the best pitch in the back field.

The views from there were excellent and I suggest the walk over the fields to the seven stars pub.

Not much happening in Builth Wells but the Bilash Indian Restaurant was very nice and Llandridrod Wells has the usual supermarkets.

Back on the site the kids loved the lake, swimming and canoeing, and the paragliders were great to watch as one of them came floating passed our tent.

The reception was open 24hrs where you can buy bacon, eggs, bread and logs for the camp fires and pay for them by putting your money in the honesty box, but I feel they could do with a few more leaflets / information on the surrounding area.

The toilet and shower block were clean and tidy. On the whole the weather was brillant, and Fforest fields is an excellent place to camp, we will without doubt be booking again next year and we will be taking our friends with us.
