Excellent site and the best I have ever visited, I didn't want to go home and my girlfriend shed a few tears when we was leaving she enjoyed it that much.

The campsite owners are so friendly and made sure they went out of there way to welcome us and make sure everything was ok, and even went to the trouble of writing directions down and suggesting a trip we could make on one of the days which we really really enjoyed a trip up the devils staircase to see the reservoirs was amazing, superb weather made the views even more spectacular.

The site is so very very quite there was little noise all weekend and everyone seems to respect that people are there for a quite weekend, despite there been a few children while we was there you didn't really notice them.

The usual things that everyone else as touched upon like honesty box, mobile phone charger fridges etc etc came in very very handy and I don't know if I could stay on a site without them little perks any more.

Word of warning the site gets very very cold on a night I was told this is even so in the summer months so make sure you take plenty of bedding and plenty of warm clothes because once that sun goes it gets chilly very very soon.

The walks around the campsite will keep you busy for a day or 2 and are well worth taking.

The pub down the road serves excellent food and I had the best ribeye steak I have ever tasted.

I drove 6 hours for this site and it was well worth the effort cant wait to return

Fforest Fields is a wonderful relaxing site. We are going again this weekend and this will be our third visit this year. We enjoyed the whole feel of the site, the free use of the kayaks, the provisions payable through the honesty box, the walks, the surrounding area, the pubs, the peace.

Did not have to queue for the showers as some have said but if we did would be a small price to pay for everything else.

The new all weather pitches are excellent.

The family are very friendly and helpful. The campers it attracts are very considerate to others.

You have probably guessed that we love it!

We have just come back from our first camping trip to forest fields, the location is stunning, the site is very well kept and the views are amazing.

The people are very friendly, the children loved the outdoors and could wander freeley,if you like peace and quiet this is the place to visit,

the only downside is they need to update the shower and toilet block as there is only 3 showers in the ladies block. Take a look at their website and see for yourselfs happy camping.

We decided to stay at this site due to the great reviews here and weren't disappointed.

Fforest Fields describes the site perfectly. That's all you can see from the campsite! There's no bar, games room, play ground, entertainment etc, just plenty of open space and fresh air.

The nearest town (Builth Wells) has a Co-Op, swimming pool, tea shops, take-aways and playground.

The campsite has clean showers/toilets (with hairdryer and plug for straighteners!), communal fridge, freezer & microwave, washing facilities and lots of EHU pitches. The pitches are really well spaced and you can having a bbq or campfire (off the ground). Despite the site being busy (bank holiday weekend) we only encountered minimal queues for toilets, showers and washing up - not a problem for us. We didn't feel the shower block was in immediate need of updating either - perfectly clean and usable.

There are well marked walks starting at the campsite for those who like walking, including one to the nearest pub, which is about a mile away - wear old trainers, walking boots or wellies as you need to cross a stream!

Our kids loved making new friends and having lots of space to play and fly their kites. We will definitely return to this site in the future.

To be honest I think all the previous reviews have covered it all.

Great site, great owners and staff and great facilities. I agree the toilets/showers are a little dated but certainly clean, tidy and usable and I have seen a lot worse.

The freezer and fridges for camper use are a very welcome addition, as well as the area for charging phones.

The site sells the basics but be prepared to travel for any extras. There is a spar in Builth Wells, and a Co Op, though this was closed for refurb during our stay.

Not much to add from previous excellent reviews. This place is a real gem of a site, we had a lovely relaxed time here. With a toddler in tow, I worried she would get bored without a playground etc but she LOVED it. Squirrels, rabbits, hedgehogs, frog, slugs, worms, fish and of course sheep and cows and big puddles were more than enough. She loved the ponds and there were plenty of walks around.

Never had to queue for the loo or showers and campers fridges were an excellent touch as was the laundry room.

The site was full of happy campers

Will definitely return. Loved it.

This was our first trip to Fforest fields and we went because of the reviews and recommendations on this site. I was slightly concerned about the toilet block before we went. However my experience of them was fine. We went in August at the time of the dog show and the site was full. Despite the amount of people not myself, the hubby or the kids had to queue for the toilets, showers or washing facilities the whole week we were there. We did see a queue at 10ish to wash-up but we were not that organised to get it done by then. The toilet block is absolutely fine, you always saw someone in there cleaning and sweeping them. I think they fit in with the surroundings great.

The pitches are huge we saw a number of very big tent compounds which had masses of room.

The kids loved the place. The boys aged 10 and 6 found a group of kids to play with and they were off playing tag, talking, climbing, fishing and playing on the lake. My son came home with 2 new friends e-mail addresses.

To us we want a campsite that is dog friendly and this has to be the best site ever for dogs. They are more than welcomed with acres and acres of walks available. There are also 2 lakes for the dogs that love water.

On a final note which I know has been mentioned before, the honesty box. It was great to be able to get a pint of milk late at night or a bottle of juice early in the morning. You just put the money in the box and enjoy. It really is special. You can also borrow a couple of kayaks/canoes and go and enjoy the lakes even included is the life jackets and at no cost. Most places would have charged £5 for 30 mins but this was enjoyed by everyone for free.

We all had a great time and are already planning our next years trip.

The site facilities were good and very clean never needed to queue. We were on a pitch near the facilities as requested due to my wife using a wheelchair, the owners were very helpful indeed and made sure we were ok

The on site shop has a plentiful supply of the basics to make a hearty breakfast and operate the honesty box principal

Charcoal and wood was also available for those that required them

The site is well maintained and also water and fire extinguishers very well placed there is a pub in the nearby village of hundred house but we never bothered with that preferring a cold one or two by the bbq

All in all a site that is highly recommended for those wanting peace and quiet

We will definitely be returning

Have (literally) just got back from Fforest Fields (have not even finished putting the gear away yet!) and felt that I must put on a review of this fantastic site.

We stayed for 12 nights (originally 10) and I must admit I have NEVER had better sleep in my life! The site is so peaceful and relaxing with a wonderful laid back 'proper' camping feel that as soon as my head hit the pillow.ZZZZZZZZZ

Any-hoo!. As others have said it is one of the most idyllic sites you will ever encounter with amazing views from all aspects and local walks for all levels of expertise. You are not really that far from decent supermarkets and shops (just a drive away) and I can certainly recommend the organic bread from the provisions on site! I don't know why others have made a negative stamp on the facilities at the site as although they are a bit tired, they do exactly what they say on the tin and are immaculately clean and not once in 12 days did I queue for a shower!

The all weather pitches are a brilliant idea- not one drop of mud on our ground sheet. Woo-hoo! (with more to be added we are told) Although the site stated that it was fully booked it NEVER seemed crowded or overly busy (in fact I would say it felt quiet??) probably because of the clever way the site is laid out into smaller camping areas- creating a really cosy feel.

We spent most of our time on site as we didn't feel the need to 'explore' further a-field and spent time with other like minded families, made some great friends and generally had a really relaxing break.

Best Bits (as quoted by our 7 year old)

1- Tree climbing.
2- The long lake.
3- Making new friends.
4- Getting dirty!

Best Bits ( in our opinion)

1- Location, Location, Location.
2- All weather pitches.
3- Friendly, calming, relaxed atmosphere.
4- Being more than a booking reference!

Cannot wait to go back next year and savour the hospitality given by George, Katie , Will and the rest of the family- it really is what makes this site so special. You should all be very proud of what you have achieved!

 Facilities

Lovely welcome on arrival, shown to suitable pitch.

Large pitch for our three tents and three cars.

Close to a stand-pipe/tap.

Plenty of room for barbecue and firepit, available for a modest £3 a night.

Loads of room around our pitch so that we weren't on top of other campers.

Toilet/shower blocks are perfectly fine - didn't have to queue at all, and there seemed to be a never ending supply of hot water.

Dishwashing facilities proved no problem even when busy - if there's a queue, leave it and come back later - you're on holiday!

Fridges/freezers so you can keep your goodies fresh.

The bacon from the Wendy House is nothing short of superb - large, thick slices with more flavour than you can imagine.

Swimming in the lake is great fun, especially if you have a dog who refuses to give the ball back until he's on dry land. While there are several life-rings around the lake, you don't get the sense that Health & Safety is forced upon you at every turn - it's really rather refreshing.

Surrounding Area

I can only echo what others have said. It's beautiful. Walk up to the east of the site for views down the valley - spectacular in the morning mist - then stroll through the woods to see what wildlife you can spot.

The walk through the woods to the pub is quite interesting during the evening light, but is a whole different game on the way back in the dark - excellent fun, especially if there are girls with you and you talk about Blair Witch :-)

Whiling away an evening around the firepit, having eaten far too much meat for one meal, with a cold beer or a glass of wine and good friends is perfect.

Although reasonably busy, the site is peaceful. Other campers know the etiquette, and Kate wanders around at about 11.30ish to give a gentle reminder about keeping the noise down - she does it so well that one would most certainly feel ashamed if one let her down.

The stunning Elan Valley is about 30 minute drive away (via Rhayader), so you have the Gigrin Red Kite Centre and the remarkable dams within easy reach.

I'm by no means a hard-core camper, having only done it a couple of times in the UK, but since coming back I've been looking at tents, cooking gear, camping gadgets almost all the time!

While I wouldn't want to be accused of fawning over this campsite, it really is excellent. Try it - what have you got to lose?
