A fabulously simple site with just the basics provided for. Exactly what we love!
Stayed 3 nights, kids played in the streams and ponds got soaked but had fun doing so!
Toilets & showers were always clean - they were by no means plush, but they do the job perfectly well.
Bacon / butter / Milk & eggs are all available from a fridge in reception - money in the honesty box, please! (the bacon was lovely!)
I think they had a swimming lake, but in April I wasn't brave enough to try it!
If you like club houses, well stocked camp shops, adventure playgrounds and fancy shower blocks, Fforest Fields is probaly not the site for you. If you want breathtaking scenery, lovely country walks and a place for you and your kids to make their own entertainment, you may want to give this stunner of a site a try.

HEY im Number 100 Review, and Im saying the same as most of the others who have stayed here. This site is FAN-TAS-TIC, it is really great, the pitches are fine and spread out nice. The surrounding area is superb! The shop is brilliant with the 'Honesty' Box. The only thing missing from the site is a Cafe for breakfast, 'Could I Open One'?

A welcome breath of real friendliness and honesty. Site is well laid out, lovely pitches and areas of natural meadow and hedgerows between areas. Wonderful natural wildlife to see and hear. Good walks for most abilities. Plenty of seating and picnic tables around for use.
Facilities are basic but clean and work well. The water is nice and hot and free! The shop is well stocked and is well worth the little extra to support local business tastes better too.
The attitude of the owners is very special and it has been a pleasure to visit Fforest Fields to experience the sort of lifestyle and trust I was used to as a child living in a country village.
Builth is about 15mins away and has a good sized Co-op supermarket and plenty of take-a-way outlets.
The farm walks are great and provide excellent views around the area.
The little extras available like the fire pits just add that little bit more!
Down side . Mmmmmmmm . Mmmmmm . Still thinking . The roads are windy to get there so take it steady if you get travel sick (but thats not the sites fault!) Oh yeah, it rainied too and was very windy but as for the site - perfecto!
We'll be back!

The first factor in favour of Fforest Fields campsite is its location. We felt that our holiday had started even during the drive to the campsite, the scenery was so lovely (we drove southwards along the A481). The site is nestled at the foot of hills and there is a delightful perspective, especially from the large field.
There are several walks available in the locality, of varying degrees of difficulty, and the site is far enough away from what is not a busy road to prevent the outside world from intruding on the tranquillity. Should you wish to wander off site there are some small towns and tourist attractions a relatively short drive away.
The other factor that makes this site special is the owners, George and Katie. Their emails to you are warm and personal not perfunctory; no deposit is demanded when you book – you are simply asked to advise them of any change in plans; unlike some sites you are not asked to pay up as soon as you arrive nor are you hassled about it once you are set up (I put my cheque in the honesty box on the morning we were leaving).
There is a fridge and a freezer available for campers to use and photocopied maps of local walks, all free of charge; there are some basic provisions (local eggs, bacon and bread and milk) available which you pay for via the honesty box; washing machines and tumble dryers are available for a nominal fee, again payable via the honesty box. All in all this lends the site a lovely, friendly atmosphere – a sense that you are visiting friends rather than entering a financial transaction for goods received.
The campsite can be divided into two sections. The first is a carefully, naturalistically landscaped area with ponds, streams and hedges which provides an environment for a healthy variety of wildlife – our children enjoyed “tadpole fishing” and also caught a newt. All ponds are shallow thus allowing children to paddle safely and any of the streams that may flow quickly when the rains fall are fenced or hedged off. All this means that parents can feel reassured in allowing their children to go off and play. The second section of the campsite is a large field that lends itself to ball games, etc.
So, are there any negatives? Is the Pope a Catholic?
The toilet/shower block, though clean, functional and free is looking a little tired and, I suspect, insufficient for the size to which the campsite has grown – especially at the busiest times (though it is possible that I am spoilt by what I am increasingly coming to view as excellent facilities at Tyn Cornel). However, George and Katie have recently received planning permission for new facilities which, in keeping with their ethos for this site, will further extend the site’s ecological and environmentally-friendly credentials.
Contrary to other comments there was some flooding, or at least an inch or so of standing water in certain areas (in particular the lower areas of the large field). Admittedly this was after several days and nights of rain when the ground was probably saturated and the water did drain away within a few hours after the rain had stopped.
Finally, at its busiest over the Bank Holiday I felt that some units had to pitch a little too close together for my liking. By Sunday afternoon and especially Monday, however, the distance between units became much more comfortable, especially on the large field.
Fforest Fields is certainly an excellent site in many ways, thoroughly deserving the praise heaped on it and we hope to return in the near future.

Visited this site with my two small children (3 & 7) 29th May for 4 days. A fantastic natural playground. Kids of various ages just played together all day. Site lovely and clean, George, Kate and their son very friendly and chatty. Shop with honesty box a great idea. Lovely walks around the site. Showers hot, clean and no queue. Can't comment much on the surrounding area as the kids just didn't want to leave the site. Visit the sites web site, my daughter Abbie was last weeks pic of the week zonked out after a hard days play. Just sorting some time off now to book again for August.
This site is a must.

Just got back from a 3 night stay and found the site to be one of the most relaxing sites we've been to.
Loved the little reception and found great pleasure in just going and having a nose around (plenty of info on walks/places to eat ect)
Good choice of shops not too far away with 2 supermarkets to choose from at Llandrindod Wells although the site did supply milk, bread, butter, eggs, orange juice and a few other things to keep you going.
Toilet block was adequate, I've been in a lot worse and they were cleaned at least twice a day.
Like the fact they have recycle bins overlooked by the Swallows, good washing up facilities.
All in all top marks for the friendly owners and their campsite.
One minor little downfall:
We experienced a night of an inconciderate dog owner who had let their dog roam free, to being kept awake at 01.45 by them calling/whistling and finally getting in their 4x4 and driving around the site to find the dog!
To end on a good note: the fire pits are a must and we will be going back.

We spent the last Bank Holiday of May at this site and got very wet!
The site cannot be found using the postcode in Sat Nav. But when you do find it it is such a lovely site. The surroundings were amazing! Fantastic views whichever way you look.
The owners were friendly & helpful. They met us on arrival, told us about the site, then took us to our pitch. We'd been given one in the field away from the stream & pond as we had a 2 1/2yr old with us. Very thoughtful.
The site was clean & well kept. Great views. Toilets & showers were always clean, and although there were only 3 showers in the ladies, I never had to queue.
There is a freezer for the use of campers. And a fridge is stocked with eggs, bread, orange juice, and a few other bits. An honesty box is on the wall so you can pay for whatever you take. Nice idea, worked well. Was a breath of fresh air!
Nearby is the Hundred House pub which you can get to with a nice walk through the fields. It's MUCH smaller than it looks from the outside. So beware, you may be left standing!
There is one problem the campsite does have & that is DOGS. You get given a sheet of paper when you arrive which tells you about the site & it also has rules on it. Unfortunately the dog owners seemed to think the rules didn't apply to them. Dogs running loose are not what you expect when you go to such a lovely site, especially when you have a toddler with you.
I would only visit this site again if I was assured there would be no dogs loose & that the rules were being enforced. Shame though as it really is a nice site.

Just spent the bank holiday week here. Wow what a wonderfully peaceful site. To lie in bed and just hear the birds and sheep . Pure bliss.
The site has tons of space. We were lucky and had a hardstanding pitch. Plenty of space for van and awning with room in front for 2 cars!
The loos were basic but very clean and the showers free and hot. The reception hut had fridges for use by campers as well as fridges selling milk, butter, eggs and bread. You pay in the honesty box.
The pub in hundred houses -a village 1 mile away- does fab food. Kids are welcome. Just a warning, go hungry lol. Well priced too. Sirloin steak and trimmings £11.00.
The site also provides tv arials for hire. The sign asks for a donation of 50p a night to go towards the air ambulance. Cool.
The owner was a very friendly man and couldnt help enough. When we were leaving he told us he hated to see people leave.
We will definitely be going back here. Missing the silence already.

Myself, my wife, two year old and In-laws went to this site on the last May bank holiday, yes that's the one, the one that rained all weekend.
The site dealt great with the rain and nobody had a problem with flooding, the whole site is very level and well drained. When the owners realised that the rain was getting very bad they put sand blocks in the roads to direct the rain water to the drainage. It wasnt needed as the whole site was fine.
As for the area we only went as far as Builth to do a bit of top up shopping in the large CO-OP they have. It has loads of free parking so not a problem trying to dump the car!
Surrounding the campsite is the kind of country I love to walk in. There are many many excellent walks no more than 2 minutes from the site so take your walking boots.
The facilities there are amazing!
The shop works on an honour system and has everything that you would need. Local bread, eggs and meat all in the freezers that you can use for free for your ice packs.
The only thing I would have to say against this site is the EHU issue. In the 'old' field the ampage is 15, if you are given the 'new' field you are stuck with a pathetic 6 Amps!
We and others in our field had numourous problems with the power tripping with just a small camping kettle on!
The area and site is amazing and well worth a visit, we'll be back up there real soon!
