Our first visit to Fforest Fields and I'm sure it won't be our last! We go camping a lot and this is probably the best site we've ever been to.
The setting is perfect with stunning countryside. There were many well marked walks direct from the site, a paradise for our dog. There is a lovely lake on site where we kayaked and swam.
The facilities were second to none. They were brand new and I do hope they will be well looked after as they deserve to be.
There are the ingredients for a great breakfast on sale together with barbecues and charcoal. This was very handy for us as there are no shops within walking distance.
We too did the lovely walk over to the Hundred House Inn. Under new management the friendly new owners are worth supporting - we didn't eat there but the menu looked very reasonable.
We did have a couple of meals over at the Seven Stars at Eberedw which were superb.
One day we went over to the steam railway at Devils Bridge to Aberystwyth. A very pleasant afternoon spent on the train there.
The owner kindly organised a TV in the bunkroom which allowed us to watch the opening ceremony of the Olympics which was a nice bonus.
We had great weather during our week long stay, which always helps, but we have nothing but praise for this lovely peaceful site.

Just returned home after a fab week at Fforest Fields for the R. W. A. S. What a lovely site, great facilities, always kept spotlessly clean, weather was great, owners very friendly and helpful nothing seemed too much trouble. Hopefully we can get another visit in before the seasons out.
You`ll find in the reception office a couple of fridges stocked with the bare essentials where payment is made into an honesty Box.
Llanelwedd is about a 10 min drive away should you require a supermarket and fuel.
If you got kids and they are into wildlife like ours are then spend an afternoon at the Red Kite feeding station, beautiful countryside location about 20 min drive.
All in all a lovely part of the world if your`e after some peace and quiet.

Access to this site is easy. A wide entrance off the A481 takes you to the campsite some 300m up a gravel roadway.
It's 7 years since our last visit to this site. The owners have invested heavily in improvements so I thought it justifies a new review.
On booking here you need to realise that the campsite is set amongst the splendid rolling hills of rural Mid Wales. Is is not in Porthcawl or Barry Island, and does not offer visitors the attractions that are available in those resorts. It does however offer peace and tranquillity in abundance.
Checking in is an interesting experience if no one is at reception. Instructions are left for you. Work out your fees, fill in the log and put your campsite fees in an envelope and into the honest box.
This place runs on trust, and it works.
Receptions sells basics such as bacon, eggs, juice, milk and bread (all fantastic local produce). Just take what you want and put your money in the honesty box.
The new facilities building is superb. I spend a lot of time on Caravan Club sites, so have high expectations. I can give no better recommendation that to say the facilities block is far superior to anything I have even seen on a caravan club site. The place is very modern and very clean. Showers are free and hot water plentiful. The shower cubicles themselves are well designed and are massive. You can tell that a lot of thought has gone into the design of the building.
The launderette on site has two washing machines and two tumble dryers. No faffing around with tokens here, yes you guessed it, pay for use of the machines in the honest box.
The new on site lake has a path round it and kayaks are available for hire. The site is generally well maintained and the owners obviously take pride in it.
Provisions are available in a Coop in Builth Wells (4 miles) or a large Tesco in Llandrindod Wells (7 to 8 miles).
We managed to get a good digital TV signal via the directional status ariel and although the wifi was not working at the time of out visit I was able to get 4 bars 3G signal on Orange.
A lovely site that thankfully is not in Barry Island or Porthcawl.

This was our 3rd trip to Fforest Fields and it is as everyone says very pretty and we did enjoy our trip but it was ruined by the tree-cutting up on the hill almost every day! Chainsaws waking us up as early as 7am. When we go away, we look forward to peace and tranquillity and unfortunately this was not the case. Such a shame. Would not have booked if I'd known and really think they should have informed us. I felt sorry for the people in the large tent field because they were right under it.
But the new block was great. Excellent showers apart from you have to keep pressing the button every 30 seconds. The kids loved the lake and the dogs enjoyed all the beautiful dog walks and cooling off in the little lake up the hill.
Fabulous campfires and shooting stars. Had a lovely meal at the Griffin Inn at Liswen. Had a not so nice meal at The Ox in Painscastle. Poor menu choice, nothing for kids, not very welcoming, very expensive. Oh well.
Loads of space and it was actually quite empty which was nice, not packed in like sardines like some campsites !
Couldn't get a very good tv reception so gave up and only got radio 2 so had no tv / radio for 2 wks ! bliss ! Not much in Builth or Llandrindod Wells apart from buying the essentials.
Brecon is nice. Nice waterfalls off the beaten track along past the Tal y bont reservoir. All in all great apart from the noise of the tree-cutters.

Our fourth year visiting here and it is by far our favourite site. Reading the other recent reviews - what more can I say?!
The new facilities are just fabulous. Lovingly made by George, Will and team, they are the equal of a luxury hotel. Shower cubicles are HUGE, and the addition of family, disabled rooms, drying room and campers room means all your needs are catered for.
Thankfully the new facilities have not detracted from the great atmosphere of the site. In fact they sit perfectly in their surroundings - fitting in as though they have been there for years.
For anyone who loves the simple joys of camping, good company, and a happy and relaxed atmosphere, then please visit this site - you will just love it - guaranteed!

So good I reviewed it twice!
We have been visiting Fforest Fields for a few years now and can honestly say that it has become our favourite site, The passion and commitment put in by Katie, George and co. Is second to none, there is a 'nothing is too much trouble' attitude and they love to get the campers views and ideas, which goes a very long way in my book!.
We have been made to feel very welcome and have brought many a waif and stray along each time we have visited and these too have grown to love Fforest Fields.
The new facilities are fantastic, roomy, easy to use, clean and definitely big enough to cope with the demand, The water is heated by a log burning boiler (we named her Bessie B) and there is definitely something special about knowing you are having a shower where the water has been heated by logs! There is solar power to back up Bessie and the whole site is very much geared towards eco- friendliness.
Pitch sizes are very generous and there is loads of room to set up, there are no charges for pup tents or kitchen tents etc which is great, the pitches are very tidy and well maintained and placed sparingly to keep everything natural looking.
Washing up facilities are excellent and the new campers room gets a big thumbs up. Basically, all the charm from the 'old' Fforest Fields has just moved under one roof.
There is always loads to do in the local area and there are some lovely towns and villages within driving distance to get your retail fix as well as some breathtaking landmarks and points of interest such as waterfalls etc. Katie and George (and especially Will) have a vast knowledge of the local area and attractions and are only too happy to share- Just ask them!
I would whole-heartedly recommend this site to anyone who loves the fresh air and breathtaking views of Wales and those who love the back to nature way of camping. The lake is brilliant and although here ares some that have said that the site needs a play park, I think it would be a blot on the landscape, all the children that have joined us have never once complained of being bored as there are so many other things for them to do.
Keep up the good work guys

Just returned from a very damp stay at Fforest Fields. Site was very busy but appeared to cope well with large number of campers. New shower block excellent. I would like to disagree with reviewer who described site as 'remote'. Yes, site is in rural area (as many camp sites tend to be!) but Builth Wels is only 10 minutes away, with well stocked shops etc. However, I do wonder if site rules need to be updated slightly. Particularly with regard to children and bicycles. At times the road past our pitch resembled a speedway track. Walks were as ever, excellent, although tree felling operations meant some paths were more of an assault course. We'll definitely be back to this wonderfully situated campsite.

Just returned from another fab week at Fforest Fields, despite the weather we really enjoyed ourselves and probably relaxed more than we would have done had it been fine.
Have to say the effort put in by Katie, George, Will, Natalie and their team is above and beyond, we had a fantastic Jubilee Party including a fly past/landing from a paraglider complete with union jack, picnic, old fashioned races and general fun. Thank you all so much for a lovely day.
Have to say, the new facilities block is superb, the showers were as good as ours at home and they are really roomy, lovely toilets and washing facilities all lit beautifully. Now 2 fridges and 2 freezers for campers use and microwave in kitchen area and bigger, smart washing up facilities.
Fforest Fields, exactly what it says on the tin!

We went here during the rather horrid weather of the jubilee week.
Unfortunately, we only lasted one night in the downpour as our tent leaked - but what we did see of the site was lovely!
The new loo block was great and everyone seemed to enjoy the showers. Loads of loo roll though and the bathrooms were always clean.
Listen to the website when it says do not follow your satnav, my other half thought he knew best and we went up the wrong road but we quickly realised and were able to turn around. Certainly wouldn't want to do it if we had been towing anything.
I have booked to go back again and Katie has been nothing but helpful!

I am loathed to give this site an 'average' review, but it seems that my opinion differs to most and I did find it to be just that - average.
The site itself is beautiful. The scenery is stunning and peaceful. The pitches are mainly flat, we had an All Weather Pitch, which was a killer on the knees when pitching, and the stones in the tent were annoying, but it was well drained, a lot cleaner than grass and generally very good.
The brand new facilities were excellent - hot, free, clean showers and plenty of them. The family rooms are a great idea. Occasionally, they weren't the cleanest, but the site was very busy and quite muddy on a couple of days.
We also liked the honesty box in the shop - great local produce, although a tad expensive.
The microwave and fridges were a godsend! Love them!
We had a fire pit, which was £3 a night and burnt through wood at an alarming rate. After one night going through 3 bags in 90 minutes, we decided enough was enough, especially as a bag of wood was £5!
The site is in a very rural area, and I think that it what let it down for us. The local shop is a 20 minute drive, there is no big town for miles and miles. If you are a camper who enjoys walking, hills and countryside, you would probably love it, but for us, it was too remote and we ended up bored.
There is no mobile phone signal on the site, and the Wi-Fi wasn't working, which for us meant we were even more cut-off as we couldn't research the area to find anything to do.
I think this site had been praised to highly to us by so many different people, that we expected something more, and so were a little underwhelmed unfortunately.
