11 June 04 Decided to visit this site based on web-site and reviews from this web-site. We were not disappointed ! Award winning conservation site in fantastic surroundings.
Beautiful site and a nice ride out to get to it... wonderful local countryside and views and walks from every direction across surrounding farmland owned by the site. On a bright sunny evening - walk through the woodland walk and the suns rays seen through the tunnel of firs is almost spiritual !
Proprietors were lovely and friendly and facilities just right.
The site was quiet but with plenty for children to do - my 8 year old loved pond dipping in the pond opposite our pitch (not deep at all).
The dogs loved the numerous walks and the dog scamper is ideal for early morning and late night ablutions (you must pick up in this area as in all the areas of the campsite.) The only thing I would say is that maybe the grass could be cut a wee bit shorter here, to aid picking up of deposits, as I found it a bit tricky in the longer grass !)
The whole site was immaculate and we found other campers very considerate and friendly too.
There is a little 'shop' on site - basically reception shed, where there is a fridge and freezer for campers to use free. Also, a stock of milk, juice, free range eggs and home cured bacon for campers to buy (honesty box for when owner not around, which I thought was a nice touch in this day age).
The facilities might be a bit tight if the site was busy... 4 showers and loos in each of the loo blocks and the showers are very small if you're a bit on the rotund side!... but nevertheless clean and free!... as was the washing up area. There are washers (no meters £2 paid to owner when convienient - again nice touch)... dryer, iron and deep sink for clothes washing.
The owners take great pride in the grounds of the campsite... although the washing up block is basically a mobile office, temporary building - which would be ugly if it had been left like that... has been sympathetically clad in overlap wood and has creepers growing over it and a little herb garden planted around it.... The rubbish contains seperate bins for glass, tins, papers.
You are not pushed off the site on the day you're leaving - at least this was not the case for us and our 'neighbour', a regular, confirmed that they are quite laid back about leaving times... this was a big help to us as we are novice campers with a big tent and children.. it was very hot this morning and we found it a struggle to pack everything up quick sharp!... hopefully we'll improve !
There is a paragliding school (run by the owners I think I'm correct in saying) and part of yesterdays evening entertainment in warm sunshine was watching several paragliders return to the ' landing strip next to one of the camping fields... exciting to watch them coming in, flying right down low over us and landing within feet! We will be return !

may 2004 Perfect for our needs. Fforest Fields was friendly, clean and more importantly to us achieved the right balance between having good facilities without being a tented version of Butlins! The setting is absolutely gorgeous. Although it was Spring Bank Holiday week and a little busy for the first few days, we thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely return.

June 2004 Coolest campsite we've been to for ages. The honesty box says it all. Everyone is encouraged to recycle too and keep the place clean. showers and toilets are spot on. Home cured bacon and free range eggs - get the picture? Thanks George and co for an ace weekend.

May 2004 We chose this site for our first ever camping trip. We were not disappointed, we had a fantastic time.
The pitches were large and flat and very well maintained, the toilet/shower block was old but very clean and well kept.
The kids loved playing in the ponds and forests and we felt very safe to allow them the freedom to roam. It's a fantastic place to relax and unwind. We took a trip to the local pub and the beer was good and the staff very friendly.
I would recommend this site to anyone who wants a quite well kept friendly camp site without the trappings of a clubhouse etc.

Many times over 2003 This is the best campsite I have visited in the GB. Excellent location and a friendly host. No booking formalities (even on bank holidays), an honesty box for the bacon and eggs and great walks from the site.
Away from the major tourist areas in Wales this is the perfect place for a relaxing weekend. You must walk over the hills to Aberew and enjoy a pint. The owners there are friendly too. The first weekend we stayed at the campsite we walked over there and had a drink. A few months later we did the same thing and they remembered us.
Having now moved to N. Yorkshire I am bit disappointed in the formality of some campsites and this measure each campsite against Fforest Fields and few have met the match. If you want to camp in mid-Wales then this is the place.

May 2004 This is a lovely camp site and we wish we could have stayed longer. The owners (George and Katie) made us feel very welcome. Our car broke down on the first night and we were without it for the duration of our stay. George and Katie were very helpful and allowed us to borrow a car to buy in essential supplies from Builth. Milk, eggs, orange juice and bacon are available on site (honesty box when George is not around). Also plenty of free hot water for showers and washing up. Re-cycling is encouraged and the site is 'managed' to encourage wildlife (David Bellamy Gold Award). There is a dog scamper area and plenty of space for children to run around and explore. There are lovely walks direct from the site and the views from the top of the surrounding hills are breathtaking. This is definately a site we will return to!

October 2003 A charming quiet site, very clean and rural. We had a pleasant weekend there and went on several good walks around the farm. I was glad to have got to the top of that enormous hill, the view was fantastic! Being October they were not at all busy, maybe the loo and shower block would be a bit small in high season.I like the "honesty box", it sets the right feel to the place when you arrive.

September 2003 Stayed here for 2 days. A lovely, peaceful and quiet site in a valley. The site has a large open field for tents and a smaller section for caravans and motorhomes, both with 16 amp hook ups. Central office hut with fridgefreezer with milk, eggs and bacon - fresh off the farm. Shower block with 4 showers and toilets in (can see this being a push when busy), wash up room with tumble dryer/iron. Nice walks around and up in the hills, can walk for miles without seeing anybody. All in all a great site to get away from it all. George and his family who own the site were very nice and welcoming, will be giving the site another visit very soon.

August Bank Holiday 2003 Fantastic Site! We had a wonderful weekend here. The facilites are good and handily located, the owner is lovely and the whole site has a very friendly feel. The natural planting around the site is nice and breaks up the site, so you don't feel like you are surrounded by other people.
This site is great for children. Our friend's kids had a wonderful time playing in an around the ponds in safety (providing free entertainment for the neighbours!!!) However, if you want a bit of peace and quiet there is a "no noisy children allowed" area.
We WILL be back.

May 2003 We stayed at Fforest Fields over the spring bank holiday 2003.
The site lived up to its website. It is in a quiet secluded valley with mountain stream surrounded by open hills. The facilities were good but a little under pressure as the site was busy.
The site is ideal for walking for those who do not want to drive during their stay. We walked on the farm and on the hills. On the Sunday we walked for four hours and saw only two other people. We went to the local pub, which was very friendly and the food was good.
A good site that we will visit again
