We loved our short two nights stay here. Our son who loves trains loved seeing them passing through just above the site field. Hens were roaming the site which the kids loved seeing too. They have free showers, loos and a pot wash area. Friendly chatty lady owner. She kept watch over the site regularly too.
Edale village is walkable over some back fields, nice walk, took us about half an hour with young children to walk it.
Great basic back-to-nature type site, great for young children as you can just let them play with them always in view.
We will definitely return to this site again.

Came here for an adhoc weekend away, it was a last minute booking and had availability and the reviews looked decent, so we went for it.
The owners are lovely, the site it well located for Edale and hikes. Only a 10-15 walk to the local pub.
The site is basic but the facilities were clean and well kept. There was only 1 shower in each male/female toilet but I never had to queue and went straight in both Sat/Sun mornings. The shower was weak (seemed to be affected by anyone else running water) but it was hot and free so we didn't care.
It's next to a train line so you do hear the odd train during the night, but it's not much of a bother.
There was also a sheep with a particularly comical bleet which kept a few campers entertained.
The owners let you pitch anywhere and it's a fairly relaxed place.
Minor downside is a lack of local shop for buying food/BBQ stuff etc (although the owners do have a mini-snack shop in reception).
There's not really anything here for children, so you'd have to make your own entertainment.
We'd stay again if we were coming to this area.

Stayed for three nights (Friday-Sunday). Fantastic stay. Shower and toilet facilities were great with the cleanliness being kept up as much as was practical. Although some areas were on a slight slope, there were no problems with our pitch.
Staff were very friendly and welcoming. The surrounding views are incredible, great views of Mam tor and Kinder Scout. The animals kept on the farm did not make as much noise as expected and were all very human (including children) friendly. 20 minute walk to Edale centre, where there are pubs and shops and the start of the Pennine walk.
The only issue we had was the issue of no hand drying facility in the shower/toilet area other than toilet roll however this was only a minor issue.

Just back from our second visit to this site and our first camping trip this year.
The ladies' toilets have recently been refurbished, my partner was rather impressed. The gents have just had a lick of paint. The cubicles now have toilet paper in them (a welcome improvement) and the shower worked well. The toilets are the only facility on site, it's just a few small fields.
We paid £6. 50 pppn I think which I thought was fair. Some basic supplies are available (tins, packet food and fresh eggs from the farm) from the farmhouse. I think the Tesco in Whaley Bridge is the nearest big supermarket, but a bit closer is the Aldi in Chapel-en-le-Frith. There are a few shops in Hope also but I haven't been in any.
Didn't go this time but on our last visit we enjoyed few drinks at the Ramblers inn and also had a great breakfast at the small cafe near the train station. Both can be reached after either a bit of walk through the countryside or a slightly shorter walk along the lane.
The site is dog friendly, we took our German Shepherd.
The site is a working farm so there are the usual farm noises. There is also railway line very close to the site. It didn't bother me or my partner, but trains do start early and finish late.
Obvious nearby attractions are Kinder Scout and Mam Tor. We visited Lyme Park and Quarry Bank - making the most of our National Trust memberships.

Stayed at Waterside over a very busy weekend in July for 2 nights with a family of 4.
We had originally booked a different site in Edale only to find our booking had been handed to lots of last minute late comers!
With no advance booking, when we arrived the owner was extremely friendly! She went out of her way to ensure we got a pitch and didn't have to make the journey home. It was very busy, however organised.
The owner made regular checks for noise after 11 pm. I heard no noise.
The facilities were basic which was the only let down. Having said that, the location and views were AMAZING! This made up for it.
After a very busy Saturday night, most of the site departed on Sunday morning and we were left with a field to ourselves, giving us the opportunity to see how great this site really is.
We'd return here if in the area again.

Just returned home after 10days at Waterside. We are big fans of this site as this is our third family holiday there. Location is amazing as lakeside pitch is great for canoeing etc. The staff are always welcoming and friendly and there is a fantastic atmosphere during the week with the other campers.
However it does get very busy at weekends and this year a number of campers in the family area did not make any attempt to hold to the 11pm quiet rule. This was disappointing and we left a day early so as not to stay for another Friday night. If you want a relaxing break do not go at weekends!
Another disappointment this year was the cleanliness of the toilets and showers. In previous years we were so impressed at the efforts made to keep these areas clean (the cleaning staff seemed to be there most of the day!
However this year in a 10 day period, I only once saw a cleaner as she was being told how to clean the toilets and I assume she left as I never saw her again. I hope this is a blip and the Waterside owners soon get the cleaning back on track.
Despite those couple of negatives, this has to be the best camp site in the lakes because of the lake access and the wonderful atmosphere created by the owners.

I must have been here on an off day because from the sound of other reviewers, this place isn't half bad. But when I went it was possibly the worst camping experience I've ever had.
It started out good and well - the owner greeted me at the door and was friendly and welcoming and didn't mind at all my late-ish arrival (it was pushing 9pm). The views of the surrounding countryside are nice, farmland and hills all around. The site is on an incline but the pitches are pretty flat.
Unfortunately the campsite itself let me down. There were rubbish bins bursting with garbage and rubbish strewn across the lawn (mostly concentrated around the washing up area); pretty poor bathroom facilities with no toilet paper (they even have a sign that says they don't provide toilet paper - what am I paying for here?).
I got up at 6am the next day, packed my things, and left the campsite. Never again.

A very basic campsite. Slight slope to the rear of site with additional field for camping. Toilets with showers and a open washing up area.
The camp site is in a excellent position for walkers wanting to access Kinder Scout and Edale valley.
The site is used by the Duke of Edinburgh award.
We unfortunately choose the wettest weekend to stay as everywhere was a muddy bog.
Our car sank where I parked it, the toilets was mud bath and the track leading to our tent looked like a Rac rally had been through it.
We found the site to be very noisy. The trains passing late into the night and the Royal air force was training helicopters to land in Edale. Plus the usual load mouthed nutters coming back from the pub at midnight.
We will try to return again one weekend when its out of season and the ground is dry.

Just returned from a 3 night stay at Waterside and can't wait to go back. The views are just stunning.
The facilities are very basic but it's worth putting up with that for the location. There is only one shower in the ladies and one in the mens but they are free. You must remember to take your own loo roll but this adds to the experience or 'proper camping' and not glamping.
The owner is very friendly. She sells fresh eggs and a few essentials in her small shop. It is a working farm so you may be woken by the call of the cockerel or sheep bleating and a trainline runs past the top of the campsite but you get used to the noise.
The location is perfect for walking and cycling. You can get to Mam Tor and Kinder Scout from Edale. This is a little village 3/4 mile up the road which has two lovely pubs, The Rambler and The Old Nags Head.
Overall it's a fantastic base for a great weekend away from it all

Stayed here for 2 nights this weekend. The location of this site is wonderful and the views are amazing. You get a warm welcome from the lady running the site, she's very friendly and runs a good little shop with basic provisions and fresh eggs. Location is great for accessing Kinder Scout or Mam Tor. 2 pubs within 10 minutes walk (part of it along a country road without lighting or footpath). Ate at both pubs and the food was okay, slightly overpriced for the quality in our opinion. There is a trainline running behind the site but it didn't bother us at all. Dawn chorus started around 4. 30am, followed quickly by cockerels and sheep. But it is a working farm in the countryside so again, it didn't bother us. The facilities - well this is my bugbear (should have guessed they were bad when the sign on the gate says 'payment in full must be made before you enter the campsite, no refunds are permitted'). I expected basic, but there's no excuse really for it being this basic. The shower (tiny cubicle) is free, lots of hot water, not bad water pressure but there's no duck board or anything, so you are stood in a puddle of water and your clothes get wet through when getting dressed again. 4 hooks on the back of the shower door (2 broken) is all you get. The alternative is to get dried and dressed in the main toilet block but that's not ideal when there's youngsters in and out all the time. There is no shelf etc to put your toiletries on a morning when you're having a wash in the sinks. The toilet block is made from concrete and needs painting. I'd also like to see an electric point somewhere for plugging in a hairdryer or charger. The washing up sinks (2) have no cover, not great in bad weather. All in all, we had a fab weekend, but next time we visit Edale we will probably stop at a site with better facilities
