First camping trip for ten years, and my 9 year old daughters first ever. We went with a friend and his daughter and we had an excellent time. The site is basic, just a field with a toilet block, but that's exactly what we wanted, and to be fair what else do you get when you go camping?
The field was fine, quite damp and muddy, but then we haven't had the best summers so far. The railway line was fine, a few trains went past and added to the charm of the surroundings.
Mrs Cooper was very pleasant when we checked in and we saw her walking her dog later in the evening.
We walked to the Nags Head and had a decent enough meal, the beer though was excellent.

Eeeh I think the weather management system was on the blink this week-end. Friday was gorgeous but by Sunday it was total system failure! We left early in terrible rain.
Edale is a fabulous location and this site really benefits from that. The staff are friendly and helpful. The site attracts people who want to camp and it is quiet and respectful.
The toilet block is B A S I C - as someone remarked, you know you are camping! They could do with some more TLC - at least attention in terms of cleanliness.
Will we return? Probably, if other sites are full, Edale is a great spot and this is not a 'never go there again site' (we have 3 of those!). Pub is nearby ramble, and the views are superb.

Needed a few days out of the rat-race and were the first tent to arrive on the Wednesday. Right in the middle of a valley, with hills all around - staggering views! Great starting point for Rushup Edge, Mam Tor and Kinder Scout.
Facilities are very basic and the washup sink taps could do with re-seating, but this is camping and I didn't have a re-seating tool with me! The railway line has a number of freight and passenger trains every day, but really isn't that intrusive - even late in the evening.
Close to Blue John mine and smaller towns are really good - Castelton and Hope in particular.

Thank you for your good comments. I'm the site owner and just a quick note: parking is now as normal again (car next to tent) as the ground has dryed up enough at the moment. But it is advised for motorhomes and caravans to ring ahead after heavey rain etc. just to make sure we can take you as we dont have any hard standings. Many thanks to all our customers.

I have stayed at this site whenever I go to Edale and it is always friendly and accomodating. The dogs don't bark anymore and I have never found the proximity of the railway a problem. It runs through Edale so you cant escape it anywhere. It has good basic facilities. The shower is hot, and the toilets are clean. There's also an outside sink to wash plates etc. which always has hot water. I know some have issues with there being no toilet roll etc but whenever I camp I take my own tissue, towels and soap anyway. This site is very cheap and the welcome is always nice. There is limited space for cars but they always try to accomodate you and the on site shop which sells water, food etc is very reasonably priced. In my opinion this site has the most beautiful views in edale, they really are breathtaking. In all I think this is a great site and if your looking for more luxury and mod cons then stay in a hotel. It's camping afterall!

We have stayed here several times. First time last year when all others in Edale were full. It is a good friendly site with no ideas above it's station. Yes working dogs bark and yes there is a train nearby, the track runs the length of the valley so you can always hear trains. The toilets are rough and ready but serve their purpose. It is a cheap site with good basic facilities. More power to sites like this who will fit you in at te drop of a hat without a stupid list of rules or aires and graces, you are camping for crying out loud what do you expect. Hooray Waterside Farm, we like you.

Hi just a quick comment - I am the site owner. Thanks for your comments on my site. Most seem to like the site just have a few niggles
1 the dogs hopefully are moving soon as they are not mine (relatives partners) The other dog is my sheep dog but she only barks when people are around in the in the day (guard dog) and stops when they go. 2 the toilets loo roll is sold at the house I am afraid, due to kids a number of times over the years thinking it fun to take it wet it and plaster the building in it. Hence if people have to pay for it or bring their own this might not happen. Also there is only a shower in each as this is all that will fit in the building unless we do away with another loo! The building was painted last year but with walking groups and doe etc using them as drying rooms for wet coats all we can do is wash and clean them the best we can. We are just a small site with a very small budget and I have to run my other farm contracting business which both got hit hard by foot and mouth a few years back and are only just recovering. Hopefully this outbreak in 2007 wont be as bad. Just like to tell my side if you have any coments please feel free to email me using the link above. Thank you for your custom and I hope to see some of you again soon. Mark

We found this site simply by accident as we were intending to stay elsewhere. There was a group of us, 5 tents in all. The prices varied as some of us had cars or smaller tents etc. However the total for my tent with 3 people and 1 car was £27 for 2 nights. The toilets were clean but in need of an overhall and there was only 1 shower in each of the 2 blocks. Dont forget your toilet paper if you are using this site, as there was not any in there during our stay. The site is on a gentle slope, views are beautiful and walks are plenty. However, I must stress that the railway line is very close and there were dogs kept in a outbuilding on the site and they barked from dawn till they were let out or fed!

This small campsite lies in an excellent location in the heart of Edale. It's around 10-15 mins walk along the road from Edale station. For 2 people and 1 tent it was £7.50 for the night, so not too expensive. Facilities are adequate, but small. A lack of toilet paper in the loos is poor though. The shower (1 each in the men's and ladies) looked rubbish but was actually quite good. The site is pleasant enough, and although it is right by the railway (Sheffield-Manchester), the noise isn't too bad at all. Our main complaint is that there are some dogs kept in small kennels right next to the site, and they started barking from dawn right until 8am when they finally got a walk. Annoying. Summary - a decent site to go to if the sites at Fieldhead and Upper Booth are full, or if you want something smaller than Coopers.

july 2004 Arived late afternoon on friday and site was pretty much empty however by 8 the site had started to fill. Excellent prices, £2 for each car, £2 for each person and £2 for each tent, it cost me £8 for two nights in total The shower and toilets could do with a overhaul, but for the price you couldnt really ask for more.
The woman who owns the site, also has a cafe near the station in Edale, which comes highly recommended, if your not carrying much grub. One niggling complaint is that you have to be out by 10.30 on the final day of your stop, which is o.k if you have a car, but if not, there's not much to do with all your gear on your back.
Do not let this put you off, I am going back next week!! Overall 4/5
