We arrived on site, along with my sister and brother in law and our two touring caravans, to an extremely friendly welcome from the warden. She booked us in and gave us the relevant information about the site and the local area. We also received bus timetables and taxi contact details.
Our pitch was hard standing and extremely spacious. The site was well looked after, and the spring bulbs were flowering. The Reception building was welcoming and well laid out, and also accommodated a very well stocked shop. Newspapers were available without having to pre-order.
Toilet and shower blocks were warm and immaculately clean, and I particularly liked the piped music, which I believe was a local radio station.
There were no children on site during our visit but there was evidence the site was child friendly.
We had an excellent meal in the local pub at Naburn, 10 minutes walk from the site. The lock and river were close by, providing a lovely area to walk in. York is fairly close by, with some wonderful shops, restaurants, and sites of interest.
We had an excellent 4 night stay, but wish it could have been longer. Excellent site run by the extremely friendly and helpful wardens. Will definitely be back.

We have had our Duetto since last November but not had chance to use it over night until last weekend. Looking for a site fairly close to home and with plenty of things to do nearby, wet or dry we decided on Naburn Lock.
Yes it was wet but we were not to be put off. We received a warm welcome on arrival and the necessary things were explained to us. We also were given site information and local information, bus timings things to see and do.
The roads on the site were a bit muddy but it was March during a rough winter. We were told to pick a pitch but keep off the grass. All the hard standings appeared to be level and gravel covered.
The nearest hook up box was in a bit of a muddy patch but we managed. Some one tried to turn round on the grass and left some nice trenches behind.
We used the toilets just to see what they were like. Clean tidy and well maintained. The showers were hot and plenty of water. The notice on the back of the shower door made us chuckle. It mentioned things not to leave behind amongst other things it said wooden legs. The local radio was nice to listen to whilst using the facilities.
The shop was a bit low on stock but it was only there second weekend and they were stocking up for the Easter weekend.
The local lanes have no street lights or pavement so we decided to give the local pub a miss until we go back later in the year.
The service point for waste water ect was easy to get at and was clean and tidy. I couldn't find the grey water drain until I realised I was parked over it. A manhole cover with two metal handles. The rubbish point is well marked so you get the right things in the right boxes.
For an all weather site within easy reach of York this is a good site. Yes York and its surroundings have had flooding problems but so has a lot of other places and this did not put us off using the site. For our first weekend in the van it was just what we needed Yes we will go back, were to next.

Our first visit to this beautifully clean and well run site that we found on UK camp site. We only stayed for one night but the facilities were second to none, the shop is very well stocked with all you need and the showers/toilet block are spotless. We only wished we had found this wonderful site sooner. They provide so much information for you, local buses etc. So quiet and a lovely walk along the canal and a short 10 minute walk to the local pub, which were also very welcoming and great food too. We will definitely be back! Recommend it to everyone.
Well done to the staff.

We arrived on the site on a very rainy bank holiday Monday, we had picked Naburn due to the location so we weren't expecting much, but we were delighted by our choice and it was probably one of the best sites we've stayed at.
We had booked a hard standing pitch and it was huge, the van and awning fitted on with the car at the front, we still had grassy areas either side and loads of space behind the van for our daughter to play in.
The toilets were spotless and we enjoyed the music being played in!
The owners couldn't do enough for us and were really helpful, the shop was well stocked and the grounds well maintained.
The bus into York stops right outside the site and the owners gave us details of the times. We paid £9 for a family return ticket and even though the park and ride is cheaper, this was far better. The queue for the park and ride buses on the way home was huge and I don't think everyone got on, whereas our bus was busy, but we were home within 15 minutes.
The site is also close to the designer outlet and you can get the bus from the site to there as well.
The walk into the village is lovely and the local pub does lovely
Meals. £6.95 for a huge beef barm with chips.
The lock is a 5 minute walk away and was nice to have a walk down to, there is a riverboat into York that leaves from near the lock, but it doesn't go every day, the site had all the times and days.
A lovely site - we'll definitely return.

We have been using this site for years now. It is a gem.
Welcoming owners, a little shop on site. The toilets and showers are always clean. Even though the site is always busy we have never had to queue for showers. There is an adult only part which we use.
There is a bus stop outside for a bus into York.
The local pub in the village serves lovely food.
Will we return. Just try to stop us.

My husband thinks this is the best site we have been too and I must say it is nice! It is a pleasant, quiet site, with the river running nearby.
It is about 4 miles from York, accessible by bus or car, or river taxi.
The available pitches are a mix of hardstanding and grass, we were on a grass pitch and it was pretty level and well tended, with plenty of space around your caravan at the front.
My only bug bare is where you are asked to park your car is at the side of your van, which does bring you very close to your neighbours.
The showers and toilet facilities are excellent, clean, well set out, with pugs and mirrors you can actually see in and with the radio playing!
There's no clubhouse etc or facilities for younger children, but the river is nearby and there is space enough for them to play and enjoy themselves. There's an 'adult-only' field too, for extra peace and quiet(next time!)
There is a very well stocked shop on site and the staff members are friendly and helpful
All of this of course you pay for. So be prepared! There is also a £2:50 charge for visitors which I believe to be unnecessary!
Naburn is a 15 minute walk away along the main road and has an nice, dog-friendly pub, with a pretty interior and nice garden.
To get into York there's a local bus service that operates directly outside the park, however it is £9:00 for a family of 4 return, so it is cheaper to drive in and pay for parking! The bus was late on the way there and extremely crowded on the way back!
A river-bus service to and from York operates from just outside the site, but it only operates on Saturdays and Sundays, leaving at 9:30 ish in the morning, with an added service on Thursday's in the school holidays.
All in all a good place to stay.

Excellent site, very large pitches plenty of space, excellent [and I mean excellent) toilet, shower facilities, the owners could not do enough to keep it clean. Very well equipped shop. The picturesque naburn lock is very close by where you can take a boat trip into the centre of York. The owners were always very helpful and ready to offer advice on where to go. This campsite exceeded our expectations.

Well, we finally managed to get into Naburn Lock following recommendation from friends, and we weren't disappointed.
A lovely quiet site, slightly off the beaten track while still only about 4 mile from York and an ideal base for the area.
Generous sized pitches, offering a mix of hardstandings and full grass pitches, plus several additional separate fields for camping or for the caravanner who wants even a bit more quiet (although further from facilities).
No clubhouse (our preference anyway), but a reasonably stocked shop on site, plus the cleanest toilet and showering facilities I think I've encountered.
There's no park for the kids, however the sites enough of a gem that the youngster's on site seemed to keep themselves entertained, all in relative safety.
There's an 'adult-only' field too, for those who prefer this option.
Naburn itself is about 12-15 mins walk and has an excellent, dog-friendly pub serving good food throughout the day. For those who crave 'retail therapy', an 'outlet' retail park is only several mins drive away. The local Park-n-Ride is based at the outlet centre too, although there's a good local bus service that operates directly outside the park.
A river-bus service to and from York operates locally too, running on certain days only and accessed easily by a five minute walk to the waterfront.
Just for further info and not site specific:
For those who'd prefer to drive, York is a fairly expensive place to park however the York Commuters Car Park located behind the main railway station (and opposite the National Railway Museum entrance) is arguably the cheapest central carpark in York. Street parking is generally free on the outskirts after 18:00, so viable for a drive and walk in for evening entertainment.
Overall, Naburn Lock is certainly on our top 5 list of sites and will definitely see repeat business from us.

My wife and I have just spent a week at this lovely site. It was the first time we have used this site and have already changed our plans for next year so we can have 2 weeks here as we had such a great time.
To address some of the negatives that we have seen from other reviews, there are a few rules but they are intended to make everyones stay as pleasant and enjoyable as possible (no noise between 11pm and 7am (respecting fellow campers) recycling waste (part of everyday life) dogs on leads (my pitch your pitch).
Now to nicer things, the facilities on site were nice and clean (free hot showers) very welcoming and pleasant owners, well stocked shop (we even bought a souvenir on our first day). Open countryside around and within walking distance, also for camper van owners or those who don't want to drive a bus stop just outside the site to York or you can also take the river bus on Saturdays and Sundays (Thursdays during school holidays) at a reasonable price.
Altogether a very relaxing and enjoyable holiday and we are already looking forward to our next stay there.

We stayed here for two weeks in the great British weather ! and had a great time. We were on a hardstanding pitch and had no problem with the heavy rain.
The toilets were nice and clean with plenty warm water and had music playing all the time. The shop had a varied selection of items for sale and Catherine always had time to have a natter.
Peter and Catherine were always very cheery and helpful. On arrival Catherine advised us of numerous places to visit, where to get the bus to York and back.
The Blacksmiths Arms ten minutes walk along the road does lovely meals at reasonable prices. We also tried the Windmill about 15 minutes drive away, which was recommended by Catherine, and was excellent with puddings to die for.
Would not hesitate to book into Naburn next time we are in this area.
