Recently returned from a short stay at Naburn Lock.
Located within a short drive from York centre and the York Designer outlet just a few minutes away. Easy to find off the main road and in a very pretty location minutes walk from Naburn Lock and the river Ouse.
Quite a large site. Divided in to two main sections - Adult and Family areas. We were on the Adult only section which was perhaps busier than the main family site - probably as the schools hadn't yet broken up for holidays. We had a grass pitch, and were able to choose which pitch we wanted though by the time we had arrived there wasn't much to pick from- subsequently we were quite a distance away from the main toilet and shower facilities.
The main entrance to the site is easy - but why do people insist on putting huge speed bumps on entrances to caravan sites. They make life so much worse - especially two in a row - unreal! however the site itself made up for this little niggle.
Check in was simple and the staff seemed very pleasant. Escorted to our pitch buy one of the wards and then left to our devices.
It is a simple site, didn't see any fully serviced pitches, but plenty of water points, but strangely not every water point had waste water emptying. Lots of bins everywhere. Recycling too
The pitches themselves are well drained - we had rain a couple of nights but never got boggy. The adult section backed on to the main road, which whilst it didn't bother us, was a little noisy at times.
The site has a small shop selling the basics, and as usual at a hyped price. Toilet facilities were ok- lacked hooks in the shower cubicles and has the infamous push button 2 second timers on the showers. Toilets were ok - though they use single sheet toilet paper dispensers which often get dropped on the floor making the loos look really grubby. There are signs up all over the loos instructing people to pick it up a flush it, but I would suggest common sense would dictate changing the type of toilet paper.
There are rules in place for silence at night, but having read previous reviews about the strictness of the enforcement I was surprised that some of our enjoyment was impaired by the all day music and partying experienced in a couple of caravans on pitches. I am sure that this was a rare occurrence.
Wifi is available on site at a very reasonable rate, but alas not very fast, but did serve its purpose whilst we were there.
Mobile phone reception was excellent. Tv reception excellent too.
There is a nice field on site to let the dogs go crazy if needed and lots of pleasant walks along the river and by the canal lock. Take care with dogs near the lock! be also aware of free range chickens and lots of ducks visiting twice daily.
There is a river boat operating mostly at weekends (dogs allowed) that goes into York. Would have liked to use the boat trip but didn't due to the unpredictable weather and taking dogs into York, didn't want to be stuck in York with dogs until the boat returned at 4:00pm. (it was a shame that a boat trip wasn't available twice a day) York I didn't find very dog friendly at all, and was a bit restrictive with shopping and attractions. Whilst on a nice day it is quite easy to sit outside a cafe and watch the world go by, on a wet cold day it is not really ideal.
We did however visit the air museum - dogs allowed and well worth a visit. - Had visited eden camp in previous visits to York and this was just as good in my opinion.
Details of all the local shops and supermarkets were in the information leaflet given to us on arrival.
Overall a very nice site would have given it 10 / 10 if it wasn't for the noisy neighbours and the showers
Would definitely return as it is only a short drive from home.

Every so often you come across a camp site that is hard to fault and Naburn Lock definitely falls into that category.
All credit to the lovely family who run the site; they're friendly, always ready to help and they obviously take huge pride in their site.
Everything you want is here but there are lots of added bonuses. Here's a few:
It's just a short walk to the lock and Weir on the river. A lovely spot.
Just a short stroll to the landing for the river bus into York. It's a bit pricey but a lovely way to get into this stunning city.
A fantastic location for cyclists like myself with the Trans Pennine cycle route just a few minutes from the site as well as a network of quiet little roads and country lanes.
If you are energetic there is a brilliant (6 miles) walk into York which follows a disused railway line, crosses the famous York Knavesmire racecourse and takes you right into the city centre alongside the river.
For the less energetic there is a bus stop right outside the site with buses going into York.
A wildlife haven that has been endorsed by David Bellamy.
If you are on site on Friday evening there's a fish and chip can that visits the site.
The village pub a ten minutes walk away is friendly and welcoming with good food. It's not cheap and you'll be advised to book a table but the quality and service is hard to faint. Biera Moretti on draught is a bonus as are the real ales. Good landlord and lovely staff. But best of all it's dog friendly.
So, there you go. What's not to love?
All the usual facilities are top notch
I'd love to give this site a 10/10 rating but sadly it falls down in one are and its my pet hate. The showers have those silly, annoying, outdated and pointless push buttons that dispense a few seconds of water before you have to press them again. OK, it's a minor thing but I find it a right pain.
Well done to Peter, Catherine and family. Your site is a credit to you all.

We stayed here last night. Lovely quiet site to get away from it all. We booked last minute due to being stuck in York for the night.
We will be returning soon for longer with our pooch as the local area and pub is great.
Facilities were very clean.
We did have a slight problem with dog mess on the grass someone hadnt cleaned up but on the whole we loved it

Just had a long weekend on Naburn lock, it was a really nice place to be, we stayed on the Adults only section and apart from the odd motor bike going buy on the near by lane it was really quiet. There's a pub in the village about a 10 min walk away, and a nice walk down to the river Ouse. Showers were clean and hot, there's a little shop on site too, I would recommend this site to family and friends.

This is a beautiful, very well maintained site. Facilities spotless.
Fish and chip van came on the Friday night and I have to say, the best fish ive had for a long time. Bus stop right outside. Dog walk really handy.
Downside- Dead quiet at 11o'clock.
There is being quiet and being quiet. The quiet police come and patrol the site. We had our radio on, granted, but we are sensible adults, that respect other campers, we understand that people want some peace, but to have to whisper your conversation is a bit much really. We felt like naughty school children being told off. A bit OTT on the camp rules, so just be aware.
Lovely place though

Well, I will start by breaking the rules and naming, the owner Catherine, what a star !
Friday night, peeing down, waiting in the caravan, full of anticipation for the arrival of the Fish & Chip van.
Catherine, braving the rain is calling at all the pitches to say the 'van' has broken down. End of story ? I don't think so !
Not to let anyone down, she takes 'orders' and drives to Fulford to get all the fish and chips, then delivers to each pitch
The best Fish & Chips we have ever tasted - you don't get that with the Caravan Club - Nice one Catherine
And, Yes Peter (co-owner), she is mad but lovely too

We had been told about this site from friends who had raved about this site (they had raved about other sites and we had been disappointed)
From pulling up to pulling away this site is a delight. Friendly, clean and quiet. The owners Catherine and Peter go out of their was to make your stay special.
When we booked in we were given detailed maps and travel information for York (by land and river)We were also given details of mobile fish and chip Van that calls every Friday.
Catherine called at our MH later to explain fish and chip Van had broken down, but she was collecting orders from the whole site collecting from next village and delivering them herself. Which she promptly did and hour later in the pouring rain. (IMPRESSIVE SERVICE)
Toilets and showers very clean and plenty of hot water for showers, (they even have dog Park area to tie pooches up outside toilets and shop)
They have separate disabled shower and toilet facility easily accessible.
There are 3 washing up sinks and a small laundrette and ironing facility/room. Wifi is a £1 a day which is cheap compared to some.
Pitches are a good size, a few waterlogged areas on the grassy areas but we were warned of these on booking, but they were badly flooded boxing day! And all pitches were clear and no standing water on these.
There is a dog walking area, but only 2 mins from canal/river bank walks as well.
Shop is a good size for size of site, well stocked and not ridiculously priced like some.
Elsan and grey water emptying points were easily accessible and even these were clean.
This is a clean well run site, beautiful and peaceful. There is an adult only area of the site if you want it even quieter!
Will definitely be booking again, thank you Catherine and Peter for a great weekend will see you again definitely.

Absolutely fantastic site for peace and tranquillity. Pitches slightly off level but nothing that the levelling legs on a caravan cant handle. Staff are lovely very friendly and helpful, full of local information. Facilities are spotless and well serviced to a high standard. The water taxi service into York is brilliant with no worries about parking the car. The local village is only a short stroll away for food and a pint at the local pub. The site has no clubhouse if you fancied a drink, that adds to v peacefulness of the site

We have just come back from a weekend stay at the wonderful Naburn Lock Caravan Park, what can I say it was amazing, from the minute you arrive you are given the impression of a well run and excellent campsite and we certainly were not disappointed. The field for tents was spacious with electric hook ups as required and a beautiful view of the surrounding countryside and extremely tidy. The reception / on site shop was perfect for our needs and reasonably priced too. The toilet / shower block was lovely and clean at all different times of the day (having a three year old we seemed to spend a lot of time in there!) We took advantage of the 2 minute walk down to the lock where we caught the river bus into York City Centre which was a fantastic journey of approximately 1 hour. There is also a bus service from outside the park into York. We also went to York Maze while we were there only 15 minutes by car and absolutely well worth a day out, plenty of fun for adults and children alike! We had a wonderful stay and would not hesitate to recommend to others!
