Just back from a weekend stay. Beautifully kept site with friendly and helpful owners. The toilet block is spotless and hot water plentiful but the shower cubicles are tiny. Nothing to sit on and very cramped dressing area. There is a well stocked shop, plenty of useful information on what to do in the surrounding area too. A short walk down the lane and you can have a lovely walk along the riverside and watch the boats.
We were in the adults only area of the campsite and although next to a road, we were not disturbed at night by traffic noise.
I would recommend this site for visiting York, the bus stop is right outside the camp gates and takes you to the designer outlet and on into York itself.

This is a very practical campsite for visiting York. There is a bus from outside the site, that goes every hour or so into York; or you can drive to the Park&Ride beside the Designer Outlet and combine the trip with some cut price shopping! The site is very quiet, and the facilities are good. The owners are efficient and helpful enough, although they leave the campers to themselves. Freezer blocks can be refrozen in the shop, with donations invited to a charity. We camped with electric for £26 a night, which is on the expensive end of rates. For that we would have expected a properly enclosed wash-up area, and in fact it is outside (though covered) in a rather windy spot (hold on to your plastic plates…).

Just got back from a lovely relaxing weekend it's a very peaceful site with less than 5 minutes away from the lock itself and only a 10 minute walk into the village the Blacksmiths Arms, they do serve food but we didn't eat there but very welcoming. A bus stop is just outside the site if you want to visit York and either a car ride or a short walk to the designer outlet. Campsite was spotless as were the toilet and shower block a credit to the owners who were lovely and friendly and supply you with bus timetable which saved having to ask really looking forward to another vist.

We've just booked to return Naburn Lock and realised that we never left a review after our first visit.
So that answers the first question - would we return? Well, we are!
The site is in a great spot and is ideal for visiting York or any other nearby villages. Although it's close to York, the site still has a very rural feel to it.
We awoke on Sunday morning to see lots of hot air balloons lifting off from the next field. A great start to the day.
There was plenty of room for our caravan and the shower area was very clean.
I must also mention the on site shop. We love browsing these shops and theirs is well stocked and all reasonably priced. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Visited for Bank Holiday. Easy to find. Lovely as you enter site with all the flowers around reception. Now doesn't seem to advertise tents very much, but believe me, there is plenty of room for tents. 3 fields and loads of space. Although more caravans and motorhomes on site during our visit.
You can chose where you pitch your tent too.
Nice shower and toilet block, and although only 4 showers I never had to wait. Kept very clean all day long. The best thing about this site is location. At the bottom of the site is the river Ouse, leading into York. Also here are the canal locks, On weekends River boat picks up at the site at 9. 30AM and takes about 55mins into York, lovely trip, but doesn't go back until 4PM, not cheap, cost £28 for family ticket, but worth the trip. We thoroughly enjoyed watching the boats travelling through the locks later in the day. Picnic tables near the canal gates.
The only negative thing I can say is maybe the washing up area could be improved. The 3 sinks are outside, although has a canopy, and there was no bin next to this area which I always think is needed. Apart from that, love this site.

A site that as been on my to do list for some time. Well visited 16th Aug for 6 nights, very easy access into the site, large pitches nice and level, the site is beautifully manicured excellent toilet block showers etc. Nice walks off site along the river or if weather allows a nice place to sit and watch the boats go by. We caught the river bus into York on sat a great way to travel taking about a hour. So if your looking for peace n quite but on the edge of all this great area as to offer then this site as it all

We've just returned from this very pleasant, immaculately kept touring site. This is our fourth visit, and certainly won't be our last. The pitches are very spacious with water point and refuge bin never far away.
The site is beautifully kept with plants and flowers around the site, which are lovingly cared for.
The toilet/shower block is always kept clean with hand wash and plenty of toilet paper. The showers are push button, which isnt a problem and they are free.
The owners Peter and Catherine are very pleasant and very helpful.
There is bus stops outside the site entrance, one way to York, the other to Selby. Unfortunately they no longer provide a service on Sunday. The river bus runs into York at the weekend though. Keep up the excellent work, we will be back.

We've just returned from a 2-night stay at Naburn Lock, agreeing on our journey back that this is one of the best sites we've stayed at. Here's why:
A friendly and helpful welcome goes a long way to making you feel at home on a campsite, and this was spot on at Naburn Lock. We had only booked for one night but discovered when we got there that we could stay for two. Not a problem, and Peter was helpful in showing us the options available to us – the adults only area or the camping field (the one which also takes camper vans and caravans). We opted for the camping field and were delighted with the field and our pitch.
The site itself is immaculately kept and, although quite large, feels more intimate because of the excellent planting and landscaping. Toilet and shower facilities are very good – not the most modern, but absolutely spotless and never busy, even though the site was pretty full. The shop in reception stocks essential food and camping supplies, newspapers etc (and delicious sausage rolls!), and the fish and chip van that comes on Friday evening serves up really delicious meals.
Location is excellent. There's a bus stop directly outside the site with buses into York, you can walk to the McCarthur Glen shopping centre (if you must!), the village of Naburn and its pub is just five minutes walk and best of all is the riverboat that runs into York at the weekend. It's about an hour's trip, very informative and there are refreshments on board – a lovely way to arrive in the city.
There were quite a mix of campers when we were there, from families with children to couples like us and overseas visitors, making for a good atmosphere where everyone was respectful of the quiet times and clearly enjoying the site and the area. Hard to believe that this lovely rural site is so close to the city of York. Excellent all round, and we'll certainly return.

This site was politely reviewed in MMM a couple of years back and, as it seemed handy for York, we'd cut the review out and carefully filed it away for a not-rainy day. On our way south, and wishing to visit the city again, we booked at short notice; phoning on the morning of our arrival. The postcode is fine for locating the entrance by sat-nav. The cheery proprietors soon had us signed in and a colleague conducted us to our reasonably level grass pitch - they are arranged in groups of 4 or 5 surrounded by high hedges, each group having a tap and refuse/recycling points. There's free wifi which is acceptably fast, but not suitable for streaming. Quite a well-stocked shop adjoins a modern facilities block in which one of the excellent features are plastic duck-boards in the shower cubicles which makes leaving with dry feet much easier. EHU is 10 amp which we carelessly managed to trip, although it was easily reset.
It's a short walk to Naburn Lock on the River Ouse and it's possible to walk along the river bank to Naburn village, although you don't see much of the water due to bankside vegetation. The pub in Naburn, The Blacksmiths, seemed OK; it was very well patronised on the night of our visit and the wait for food would've been too long.
At weekends in summer there's a river bus into York which leaves the lock at 09:30 and returns from the city centre at 16:00 (Adults £10. 50 return, a quid off for seniors). The skipper on our trip, Jenny, gave a very droll and amusing commentary. There is a huge choice of things to do in the city - we walked most of the medieval walls, visited the eccentrically restored Treasurers House (National Trust), had coffee and cakes in a branch of the famous Betty's tea rooms and a street-food lunch in Parliament St. We only eschewed the Cathedral and National Railway Museum because we'd been before. Alternative access to the city is via a local bus service, but this doesn't run on Sundays. The site is handily located for several cycle routes; its possible to bike into York in twenty minutes or so and the long, level York to Selby route (NCN65) runs through Naburn.
We reckon this site was excellent value for £21/night inc EHU.
