Had a week's break at this great site. Friendly greeting and quick book in, then Cath showed to a choice of pitches in the Adult only section. Pricing quite reasonable at £21 a night.

Great location, easily accessed. Bus stop to York or Selby at the entrance; service about hourly. Also the river boat on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, from mooring just down the lane from the site. Not cheap, but a very civilised and leisurely way to get to the town centre.

Numerous things to see in York city. National Railway Museum is a must; Museum of Yorkshire Life is good, as is Barley Hall if you are into the Medieval stuff. Don't forget the Jorvik Centre; and if you want a good lunch try the Three Tuns Inn in Coppergate - excellent!

Pitches are a good size with plenty of room for an awning and your car. Facilities are good, but got a bit over-worked on the Saturday morning- the first weekend of the school holidays. Shop is very well stocked.

Only two slight downsides - the shower cubicles are tiny; not enough room to keep your clothes - especially shoes - dry or to change in. The hook-ups are only 10Amps - so in early or late season heating, a kettle, TV, fridge, lights and a few other bits could soon over-load the system.

All in all a very enjoyable week. Would we return - absolutely - but perhaps not in school holidays.

Just returned from two nights at naburn Lock. What a crackin site. The owners are unbelievable owners looking after everything on site. The hedges and grassed areas are pristine and the toilets and showers are spotless. Try the Park & ride into York £2:70 return far cheaper than parking at £4:00 per hour. All In all naburn comes highly recommended in my book.

 What a great site!

Had a lovely week here, Cath is so friendly and nothing is too much trouble, she never stops working.

The site is devided by hedges into sections of hard standings and grass pitches. There is an adult section part of the site which is where we were, I thought was a really good idea.

The only little niggle was the traffic in this area, morning and evening, didn't wake us up though and not much can be done about it.

Facilities were always clean and the shop was well stocked and more besides.

There are walks around the area but ask at reception first as one of them comes to an abrupt end.

The bus goes to York from the stop outside the site about every hour. Park and ride is a couple of miles away.

The marina is at the bottom of the site and there is a boat tour into York.

There is a great dog friendly pub about a ten minute walk away in Naburn village, The Blacksmiths arms have dog bowls and treats set out ready. The choice of ales were good and the food was fantastic (served all day), we went twice, steak pie to die for and the portions were large though a nice touch was they offer small portions too.

A place not very well advertised but well worth a visit was the cold war bunker just on the edge of york off Acomb road, it is part of English Heritage tours take just over an hour and they are open Fri Sat Sun.

We really enjoyed our stay at Naburn Lock and will certainly be back.

This is a lovely site, my wife and I have stayed here around four times. The site comprises of 3 separate areas, one area seems to be for caravans and motor homes, the next area for tents with electric hook up (EHU) and there is also a field for tents with no electric hook up facilities just a cold water tap in the corner of the field. Three out of the four times that we have been we have chosen to stay in the field with no hook up and the owners of the site have charged us a couple of pounds less as we have had no electricity. We visited this site again last weekend, we rang the owners a couple of days beforehand to see if there was any availability for two adults and 1 tent with EHU and was told that there wasn’t but we could go in the field with no EHU, which we did. We arrived on the Friday and were told by the owner Catharine to pitch up and pay later as she was busy. The next morning we were going into York so decided to nip into reception to pay for our two night stay. At this stage I must mention that there is no mention of tent prices or tents on their website just caravans and motor homes which states £19 per night which includes EHU. However when we came to pay we were told that it would be £20 per night even though we had no electricity. I questioned this and was told by Catherine that this was the price and that she was not arguing about it has she had better things to do, she then inferred that people in tents can be rowdy and not nice people and that they do not want them on their site and that is why there is a different price structure for tents. My wife and I are both 51 years of age, we had no children or dogs with us, and do not stay up late being rowdy, in fact there was only 3 tents including ours in the field. I was then handed a price guide which clearly says,

Caravans and motor homes £19 with EHU

Tents with EHU £23. 50

Tents £20

I do not think that it is fair or right to charge more for tents especially when tents are not advertised so therefore the people that visit the site are usually regular customers that have used the site before and enjoyed it enough to return. My wife and I are genuinely disappointed. If the owners of this site do not want tents then all they need to do is just make it known when people make an enquiry instead of discriminating against tents by their charges.

Very nice site, very clean and well maintained throughout.

We stayed on the site for just one night, we were greeted by Peter and was shown to a choice of two pitches. The shower/toilet facilities were very clean with plenty of hot water. We got a taxi into York and back, £10 each way, which we thought was very fair.

The checkout time was 1pm, which I thought was generous. I asked at reception if we could checkout at 5pm which there was no problem with, although we were charged £6. 00, which we thought was a little steep. It wont put us off returning to the site though.

What a great site, the owners Peter and Catherine are lovely hosts. I have a small VW campervan and wanted to park it a certain way, but Catherine has a lovely way of telling you her rules. Her people skills are second to none. The way she communicates with people is the reason the site is so good. This was our second visit, this time in the adult section right next to the immaculate toilet block, so not far to go. Both visits I have seen them cleaning the loo's at 11pm so nice and clean for the early risers. Bus stop outside the site £4. 50 return to York. Local pub great food and atmosphere. We will be making Naburn Lock a favourite of ours well worth the 160 miles round trip for a 2 night stay. Can't praise Catherine enough

Been here about four times over many years and we love it. Stayed four nights and the weather was fantastic which of course is an added bonus. This site is immaculate, shower blocks spotless free hot water, heated and local radio is played so you can catch up with the weather whilst showering. Reception hosts a shop selling bacon, eggs, milk, bread and newspapers, no alcohol or lottery, but not a problem as there are shops not far from the site by car. At weekends and Thursdays during school holidays you can take the river boat up to York which is minutes away from reception leaving at 9. 30am and returns to Naburn Lock at 5pm. If you want to leave the car behind you can catch a bus outside the camp on both sides of the road going to York or Selby. There is a pub in the village selling food too which is very good and the fish and chip van calls on site on a Friday night at 8. 15pm which is great for a treat. Dogs must be kept on leads and anytime we have been the children have always been well behaved so never been an issue for us although there is no playpark for them and there are restrictions to kite flying and ball games. There is an adults section on site too so everyone is happy. Owners are very friendly and work very hard keeping their standards high and this is why we keep going back. The onwer's mum was not here on this visit, she was missed, she deserves a mention as she works hard too keeping the toilet blocks clean and is a delight to chat with. Looking forward to our next visit.

Absolutely gem of a sight, my partner and I stayed at this site for two nights, exceptionally quiet. Toilet block and showers immaculately clean and warm, radio playing which was a nice touch. Lovely little shop and close to park and ride for York. Would definitely recommend this site to those who want peace and quiet.

What a wonderful site this is. Visited last weekend after reading the reviews on UKCampsite.co.uk and was not disappointed. We were met by the owners who were very friendly and helpful and showed us to our pitch. We were on the adult only field which was lovely, a little road noise but it didn't bother us at all. All of the facilities were lovely and clean and warm. Taps and bins were plentiful. The Elsan point was the cleanest Ive seen on any caravan site.

The surrounding area is very pretty. Had a walk down to the lock but it was very quiet but lovely, and a beautiful walk along the river with the dog. We didn't venture to the village pub this visit so can't comment, but we will next time.

Went to Scarborough for the day which took about a hours drive from the site.

This site is an ideal base for travelling around the local area, with plenty to do close by. Its a credit to the very hardworking and friendly management. Well done.

Just stayed in march very clean site easy to find nice warm welcome good walks for dogs easy to get to York on the bus out side every hour.

Only one fault don't like dirty water being emptied down drinking water drain then people using same tap to wash out waste water container and then the next person filling up with fresh water.
