Well kept large site not too far from York. Pitch sizes are more than ample which gives you plenty of space which with the mature hedgerows make the site seem a lot smaller. Clean modern toilet block, no play ground for kids, although there is an adults only area. A well stocked shop on site.
The York-Selby bus stops right outside the site and from what we saw is well used. We only stayed for a couple of nights but its a site we will be giving another go

What an extremely good campsite! Welcomed to the site when we arrived and escorted to the possible pitches. Staff very friendly and helpful, good site shop with good choice of basic camping food, equipment etc. And gas Bottle exchange.
There is a lock just 5 mins walk away where you can have pleasant walks along. Excellent public transport links from site to York (saves driving) but the Park and Ride is cheaper (at the McArther Glen outlet village 5 min drive away) - based on 2 people it's half of the price and plentiful. We stayed in the adults section which was lovely and peaceful with only slight traffic noise to be heard.
Will be visiting again, well recommended site!

This is a lovely site in an excellent position for York.
Reception very good the lady made us very welcome.
Shower very good very clean, plenty of toilets always very clean, pitches very good.
There is a water taxi which leaves for York @ 09.30 hours and returns @ 16.00 Hours.
When we asked what time we had to leave we where told to leave around 14.00 hours on Sunday this was great.
There was 3 vans in our party and we all enjoyed it very much indeed.
Thank you, we will be back.

Had a good three nights here in May. The place is very clean and organised. They are big on recycling, and even bigger on any kind of noise or disruption! You get the 'twenty questions' routine once its known you're going with a tent. They need to be sure you haven't an annexe on it that's sub-let to asylum seekers etc! Once you've 'passed' the strict acceptance questions, you are sailing from then on.
This can be quite literally, as the river lock is adjacent to the very smart site, where a river boat takes you into the heart of York for £8 (or was it £6?) return. Not exactly cheap, but its a pleasant run.
The shower block is well equipped with plenty of 'free' hot water. But on the 'valve' system that require pressing every 60 seconds! There's rarely a queue in the gents, but the mrs reckons the ladies could get a bit clogged at times with teenagers applying their lippy etc!
Vans are generally set aside from the tents, although the field we were in with the EHU's had a van or two. There's another field nearer the river for just tents but no leccy if you're not bothered. The pitches are a good size, and don't have the owners coming round with a tape measure to make sure you're not three blades of grass outside it. One thing to think about though, is where you pitch in this EHU meadow. We tucked ourselves up against the perimeter hedge for shelter. Except, even though the road outside is only a narrow B road, traffic noise can be surprisingly frequent - at all hours! Next time we will venture further into the field!
Another plus point, is that they don't fill the place to the brim, they always keep a good few pitches open for rotation, and so the leccy doesn't get over-loaded. Which means no-ones ever on top of anyone else.
Here's another thing - they allow tranny vans in - even sign-written! Which was a big surprise given how strict they are on who they actually let in.
The site has a shop which sells just about anything you may have forgotton or want, at a reasonable price.
There's a pub in the village that does decent food, or others a bit further afield. The village is about 15 mins walk. The actual site is in the middle of nowhere. A taxi into York will cost you a tenner, although there's a bus stops right outside the site, but finding one to come back is a nightmare, as York has no bus station! We had a leisurely walk into the city, which is about six mile on the well-signed cycle route. If you have a decent walking map - which we didn't, I'm sure you'd be able to shave a good distance off this if you knew where you were going!
Naburn Lock is a lovely site, with no real downsides. We will deffo return at some point.

Just returned from a weekend at Naburn Lock, this is our second visit here. Lovely site and excellent position close to York. Showers lovely and clean, they are the push button type. Plenty of toilets. Excellent dog walks. No children's play area but plenty of grass area for games etc.
The site is exited by a barrier with a code given on arrival. There is a water bus into York runs at 9.30 am returning at 4pm directly frm the site. We were a group of 3 vans and as requested sited together, also it was nice not to leave till 2pm on the sunday.
A gem of a site thank you for a lovely stay (just a note please put a sign up on the other side of the road as we missed the entrance).

Went here for the may bank hols overall brilliant
Everything that been said about it is true, here's a few points that I couldn't find, where our lot thought things could be improved. The shop could do with opening a bit longer, for the size of the site and the people it can hold maybe some more toilets / showers. On the camping field at least one more water tap, we are nit picking here a bit A great site, well run by the very helpful owners. One more thing the pubs all around there especially on a sunday all seem to stop serving food between 6 and 8 pm. We did find one that was simply the best pub grub we've ever had dammed if I can remember the name of it, but it's on the A19 into york on the left. It is the last pub before the roundabout and wetherspoons

After reading all the great reviews on here, we thought we would give it a try. Lovely as it was, we were a little disappointed. The caravans seemed to be very well catered for, lots of taps, lighting etc. The tent field with hook ups, just had one tap and one light right at the far end of the field. It was a long walk in the dark to the toilets, yet if you were in a caravan, the toilets were very close by.
Upon arrival we were given lots of local information, bus times, riverboat times and even a map of york which was very useful. Be warned if you do catch the bus from outside the site if you are with children, it costs £16.50 return for 2 adults and 2 children. The owner told us to drive to the park and ride at the designer outlet and get the park and ride £4.60 return for all 4 of us.
The riverboat into York is a must, £22 return for all of us which was a hour and a half each way which was twice as long as the cruises in York which they were charging the same price for. It was lovely!
The children were a little bored due to there being no playground.
The washing up area needs improving, 3 sinks for the whole site, we had to queue every time we went and it was a little exposed to the elements. The toilets and showers were kept spotless and the radio playing in them was a nice touch, however there were only 4 showers which meant long queues most mornings and the shower cubicles were very small, with no surface to put your clothes/things on.
The site seemed to have lots of rules, however not all the rules appeared to apply to all the people, we saw some people being asked to take their windbreaks down but yet a 'regular' was able to have 4 around their caravan.
The owners were quite friendly towards us but preferred to chat to people they knew. Every evening the owners walked around the site which made you feel a little nervous because they looked carefully at what you were doing and what things you had where! There were also lots of add ons to the price, hook up, children, berth of tent, so what originally looked good value, soon added up. I don't think we will visit again but it was very handy for York.

Just returned from a 2 night stay during half term week. The owners were really helpful, and gave us an information pack on arrival inc bus times and local places of interest. The site shop was really well stocked. The tent field we stayed in was a short distance from the lock, and was a nice place to walk our dog, and also not too far for our toddlers!
Toilets were clean, and there was enough hot water for a shower at 7pm! There is a family/disabled shower room which was really helpful.
York center was a short drive, but parking was very expensive. River boat to York only runs at weekend so we missed out. Would def do that next time.
We will definitely go back!

Just returned from a long weekend at Naburn Lock, and I have to say that the camp site is great, the owners at arrival gave us information about York it’s self and the costs were ok. We got to our pitch and found the grass and the size of the pitches very good. The toilet facilities were very clean and tidy with the owners working into the late night in order to keep them clean. The site it’s self has lovely views of the lock, which we walked down to, to watch the many boats coming through.
We decided to travel to York via the river boat and it was well worth it, at £8 return for an adult it sounds a lot but the trip is great and it’s lovely to get away from the roads.
The site doesn’t have a play park for kids but mine never missed this feature as they were off exploring and had a great time.
All in all this site is very good and I would have no problems recommending it to anyone, can’t wait to return.

We recently spent the bank holiday weekend at this delightful site with our tent using electric hook up. It is very picturesque & very handy for visiting York. The site is very well run by owners who clearly work very hard at maintaining high standards.
Toilet/shower block is immaculate, Dishwashing area adequate but tad open to elements. Well stocked shop on site, selling essentials & the owners are extremely friendly & very helpful (providing both river boat & bus timetables. Tent pitches are very spacious & our kids had acres of space to run around.
Fab views onto Naburn Lock but not too near for the safety conscious. Various options to travel into York - river boat/bus stop outside site or taxi (£10 one way). We opted for boat trip which handily stops a short distance from site. As we have a young family, the owners strict curfew of no disturbances after 11pm was very reassuring & appealing. We will highly recommend this site & look forward to returning sooner rather than later.
