Like another review we used this site because we could not get into rowntree park.
Very friendly staff and helpful.
Clean toilets and showers.
Getting into York, not quite so easy as Rowntree.
We used the boat ride one day. It was reasonable for an hours return each way, but wouldn't have used it every day if staying longer. It was enjoyable though even though it was frosty in the morning!
We used the bus the other day. Not as cheap or regular as the park and ride service. But still handy.
We went to the pub, not the cheapest. But the food was good. We went in the evening. Pitch black! Torches advisable. A little scary walking on a road, no footpath or streetlights. Fortunately our kids are old enough.
But we would use this site again.

We stayed here for the October half term break, and found the site was surprisingly busy.
We paid 14 pounds for a caravan with two adults, and an extra 2.50 per night for each child, totalling 19 pounds per night. No awning, not sure if that would have been extra, but including electricity.
We were unlucky and the river boat into York finished the day we arrived, but I'm told it took a whole hour to reach the city and the prices looked scary. In our case we drove to the designer outlet park and ride three times(parking is free), where the adult bus fare is 2 pounds return into York centre or rail station, and includes up to two children free. Much cheaper and easier than driving. The buses run every 10 minutes, and they were always on time, but even so every one that we travelled on had standing passengers!
I can second the previous comment about the Blacksmiths Arms, the meal there was excellent, and the staff helpful. The cider choices were not excellent though, woodpecker, or strongbow - yeuk!
The easy walk there gives you a nice thirst and appetite too - it's about 900 metres.
This site has an 'adult only field' which is worth requesting if you are so inclined, and a small shop - my kids loved to go there and buy themselves an ice-lolly - they've just reached the age where they can be allowed out on their own and the site owners were very helpful when they asked for their purchases.

We have just experienced our first venture out with a newly aquired caravan and were lucky to have chosen Naburn Lock. Even my reluctant caravanner husband who had been forced into the idea of touring had a lovely time.
The owners were very helpful, even having to jump start our car which refused to start on the morning of our journey home. The showers and toilets were very clean and warm inside (it was October after all!) and the facilities and setting were great.
There is a lovely pub, The Blacksmiths Arms, down the road in the village and we spent a very pleasant Sunday evening in there. The food (steak £5.99 and as much of the extras as you like) was excellent and the quiz afterwards was good fun.
We managed to catch the water bus's last trip of the season to York which was a lovely way to travel and is a short walk from from the campsite. There is lots to see and do in York and we didn't have enough time to do even a third of it. I would definitely return to this site.

This is a wonderful site set in marvelously landscaped grounds. This site is a credit to its owners, they are really nice and keep the site really clean. The toilet and shower facilities were the best I have been in, they even had music playing in them WOW nice one. The pitches are a good size and its clean and quiet. We would highly recommend this site. We had a lovely weekend and we are looking forward to returning there soon.

Booked onto this site as Rowntrees was full, what a stroke of luck. The owners were more than helpful, providing full details of local facilities, Bus stop at the camp gates, 15 mins into York Centre for a good day out. 10 mins walk into Naburn for an excellent meal at the local.
Site is clean, well laid out , toilets clean and tidy with the piped music a nice touch . Will definitely revisit

This is an very pleasing site with local walks and attractions, the owners are friendly and the shop is well stocked over and above the usual site standards I feel.
The pitches are level and well laid out and facilities are outstanding. We did suffer from the weather but that's the nature of camping and not the sites fault.
Very well priced too, I would recommend this site strongly.

This is just a wonderful site. We intended to stay for just three nights, using this site just as a stopover - however after an unfortunate visit to a ghastly site in the Lake District - we returned to Naburn and had a fabulous and relaxing summer holiday. The site is maintained to a high standard - the pitches are of a very good size and it is incredibly peaceful. The owners obviously take a lot of pride in their site and work very hard to ensure that it is kept clean, quiet and safe. We would definitely recommend this site to anyone who has VERY high expectations of a camp site. Thank You to the owners, Cath and Pete for making our stay so enjoyable.

Just had a great weekend at Naburn Lock. Had a weekend without the kids. The site is easy to find and just off the A64
This site is brilliant, the owners are very friendly and helpful. This is a fantastic site, the first impression was of how well kept it was with flowers everywhere.
We had a good tent pitch and could choose our spot anywhere in the designated area.
The toilets and showers were very clean and well kept and even had music playing, there was even two electric sockets to plug in my straighteners! These seemed well used.
There is a boat that takes you into York at 10am. This took a hour and was a very chilled way to start the day. The boat goes from the campsite. It returns at 4pm but we choose to go one way so we could come back later.
At check in you were given details of the boats and buses and local facilities. The campsite is on a bus route to town that takes about 15 minutes, it was good to be able to leave the car behind and not have to worry about parking. The buses run every hour in the day and there was a bus at 8.30pm and at 11pm.
The shop was well stocked and clean and open in the morning and evening.
There is a great pub, the Blacksmiths arms in Naburn village about 20 minutes walk away. We stopped for the Sunday carvery and had one of the best Sunday lunches we have ever had. It was a good as my mums! I would recommend this site to anyone who wants to visit York and the surrounding area. There is so much to do in York, we went to the Castle museum which was brilliant and worth the money and spent time watching the street performers. I was shocked that you have to pay £5.50 to go in York Minster so we gave that a miss.
We will certainly be going again.

Just spent 2 nights here. To echo the previous reviews, excellent facilities, immaculate shower block, well stocked shop. Also impressed with the zero tolerance to noise 11pm to 7am. The owners are fantastic, they even lent us a pan from their own home as we had forgotten ours! highly recommended.

Spent two nights at Naburn Lock Caravan and Camping Park the weekend of 10/11/August 2007. I have visited numerous sites and this rates as one of the best.
The proximity to York means that it is easy to get out and about without having to take the car. You can use the riverboat which departs at 10.00am in the morning and returns at 4.00pm in the afternoon or alternatively there is a bus that runs up until 11.00pm at night (with the exception of Sunday). If you've got a bit more energy than I had then there is some great cycling to be had along Route 66 of the National Cycle Network.
The hosts Peter and Catherine are a lovely couple who obviously take great pride in keeping the site clean and tidy. The extra effort made on flowers, plants and bird feeders makes the place feel really cared for.
The toilets and showers are cleaned at regular times twice a day. There are facilities for washing and ironing as well as pot washing. All in all a lovely site and I am looking forward to returning there soon.
