We found Naburn lock on google and duly contacted peter and Catherine. This was our very first trip out in my newly bought motorhome. Not having a clue, my son and I duly arrived and were met with a very warm welcome, shown how to use the tap(yes I know!) to fill the tank and escorted to our pitch. A lovely quiet area, met by a family of ducks. A neighbouring homer showed us how to set up the awning whilst son James got on with the essential stuff like fixing on the Electrics without blowing himself or the van up. Gas on, power on, awning up, kettle on and the start of a lovely two days.
This is a lovely lovely site and has now become my bolthole for the weekend, facilities excellent, staff lovely and immaculately maintained.
Toilet and shower facilities excellent. Not having cottoned on to washing up in the sinks provided, I have now bought a washing up bowl! and duck food lol
Thank you for a really nice introduction to motor homing, only an hour from home and so peaceful and friendly, perfect for the waterbus into york as well.

Fantastic campsite, wouldn't hesitate to visit again.
Not sure what I can add to all of the previous reviews. The campsite has a great layout, with a mixture of hard-standing and grass pitches, broken up into smaller areas with high hedges. The site was immaculate, the bins emptied at least daily, plenty of water/waste points etc. Shower block is clean and adequate.
The location of the site is perfect for visiting York and the surrounding areas. Close enough to York to cycle in via the nearby dedicated paved cycle route (about 10km each way, which only took us an hour with an 8-yr-old). The river and lock is just a short distance away, perfect for an evening stroll. The nearest decent sized supermarket/food shop is 10-15mins in the car, so not too bad.
Downsides? Very few. The single toilet block could perhaps be bigger for the size of the site, but we never found it busy despite visiting in July. Site is pretty kid friendly, but a play park of sorts would bump up it's score in this department.
Finally, WiFi access is available, and at a more reasonable cost than some places. However I found it one of the most awkward systems to register with initially, taking me about 3 attempts. Once working it was mostly OK, connection strengths & data speeds were 'variable'.

Nice Welcome and shown to pitch with electric on the Adult section, good spot but not really enough room to park caravan and car on the gravel and keep off the grass. We didn't need to move it much though, as we took the bus which stopped right outside the park, good service right into York. Visited the fantastic Railway Museum and the York Museum and Tower opposite. Good variety of shops and places of interest.
Nice short walk from the site down to the Lock, would have been lovely to sit there watching ducks and birds if the weather had not been so wet. Although we did not go on it, there is a boat that goes to York once in the morning and back in the late afternoon
Toilet block clean and functional but would have liked a seat in the shower, noticed a few people walked to shower with their robe on. Saw why, will take mine next time! Amusing notes to read in the shower, I had a chuckle. Nice piped music playing.
Lovely flowers and very well tended gardens surrounding the office, shop and block. Good friendly service and advise in shop and office.
Had one day driving along the coast, lovely beach and town at Filey, up to Whitby, very interesting with all the boats going too and fro. , and Scarborough then coming back over the Moors.
Wished we had not taken packed lunch with us as we could have eaten fish and chips in Whitby where there were so many outlets selling them!
Would certainly go again, will try for dry weather next time, although weather did not stop us from having a good look around and a very nice time at this site.
You should go, you will not be disappointed.

Just spent five days at this lovely site. On arrival a very warm welcome awaits you and that approach is maintained throughout the visit. We stayed on the adults only site, where the pitch was very generous and quiet. The toilet facilities were spotless. I believe this site has more Elsan / water points than anywhere else I have visited. There is excellent walking from the site and the riverside walk to Naburn Village is an easy one where the very friendly Blacksmiths Arms awaits with a selection of real ales. The Sunday carvery was brilliant, I think we counted 15 different types of veg. This pub is dog friendly even if you are eating. This is a site I would certainly pay a return visit to.

Just returned home after another lovely weekend on this beautiful site. We have stayed on this site three times now and it never fails to please. The checking in was as straightforward as ever with friendly faces, the site kept immaculate and the facilities as clean as always. Will certainly return later in year. Keep up the good work.

We return to Naburn Lock time and time again. The staff are so helpful, friendly and extremely welcoming, nothing is too much trouble. The site is very well run with a shop, a dog walking area and an adults-only area. Saying that the family area is just as peaceful and quiet. The toilets and showers are spotlessly clean, well maintained, heated and even have piped music! We love the location - easy to reach off the A64 yet very peaceful. There is a friendly local pub with beer garden a 15/20 min walk away and a supermarket a short drive away in York if you need supplies. The river and lock are literally down the lane or over the dog-walking field and there are some lovely nature reserves all within driving distance.

We stayed on this site on the weekend of the Vintage Festival at York Racecourse.
The site is very well looked after and the owners looked after us very well.
There was an excellent field for walking our dog as well as acess to the river bank close by.
The showers were clean and warm and the shop stocked all the essentials.

Arrived back from first weekend away with new caravan on 31st march and I must say what a lovely site to pick. Peter & Catherine are lovely people, helpful and accommodating. The pitches are spacious and well laid out every facility is perfect. The surrounding area is beautiful especially the lock & wier. A 10/15 minute walk left out of the campsite will bring you to Naburn village and the Blacksmiths arms with lovely food and is dog friendly. A bus service at the gate will take you into York every half hour Mon/ Fri until 5/6 o'clock and sat until 11pm. Details are given on arrival. Hopefully if available will be back in June.

Just come back from spending 6 nights at naburn lock caravan site well wot a lovely site we were on the adult section most of the pitches or on slop but no problems take some blocks with you. The other side of the park is completely level well looked after site by the owners who couldn't be more help full when we had a problem with are van they got it sorted no problem. Facilities are very clean washing machine tumble dryer iron and board. Just down the road in the village is a really nice pub with real ales and the food was very good special the Sunday roast. Only two miles from MacArthur glen shopping center and four miles from York. Bus stop to York right outside main entrance which we used easier than taking the car. No playground for the kids. Plenty of space in between vans not on top of each other. Nice walk down to the lock and the river. Will we go back most definitely with out a dought

This was our first outing in our newly purchased campervan and so was a test run for us. Upon arrival the signs were clear telling you where to park and head to reception. It was nice and quiet and so plenty of pitches to choose from. We headed to the adults only section. The owner did pre warn us that they were having some work done to resurface the tarmac. The work occurred whilst we were there. No upheaval was caused and the work was completed without disruption to us. Facilities include 4 showers and ample toilets. Showers were hot with good pressure. Lots of bins, recycling units and elson points spread all over the site. There are gravel as well as grass pitches. Whilst there I suffered a puncture on my bike. The owners were really helpful and sorted it for us in no time. Local pub is blacksmith arms which is 15 min walk along road into naburn. Excellent food with choice of ales. Cycling path takes you into york no problems. All in all a lovely site close to York with plenty of villages to cycle to.
