We arrived a week after the floods so were not surprised to find some of the pitches a little boggy! we were able to choose where we wanted and we warned of a large group of school children, and where they would be on site so pitched ourselves accordingly (away!)
The heated showers/toilet block were very clean (until the girls went in!), showers really hot. Only criticism is that the showers are quite low and when you move the head up, clothes got wet. The area is set up a bit like an open changing room - not really my cup of tea with 4 15yr olds in the bathroom - but managed to get sorted in the shower cubicle with a little effort!
Really good spot for walkers, very friendly warden and temp. Warden! will visit the area again an use this site without hesitation. Well maintained.
Could maybe do with a couple more fire points higher up for bbq season.
Overall - impressed

Have just returned from a two night stay at this site and although the weather was poor the location and staff were excellent.
What a superb site, clean and tidy with great facilities, helpful staff and open views across the vast countryside close to Hadrians wall, Vindolanda and the Roman Army Museum.
Having arrived with the addition of a stand alone awning my request for grass pitch (to protect the groundsheet) was met in a peaceful location with plenty of room between units.
Really looking forward to going back for a longer stay and hopefully some better weather. On a warm sunny day/evening this site will take some beating.

We had really enjoyable stay here. We were welcomed really well, even though it was late in the day and we were the last to arrive. The shop sells a good range of basics and the bunk room looked good it you were doing the Hadrian wall walk this would be a brilliant overnight stop.
As for us in a small campervan, we used it as a base to explore the area. It was really a nice site with little terraces so you don't realise how big the site really.
What we liked most was the attention to detail. The washing up area has bowls and each draining board had a cutlery rack to help things drain. The showers were always clean and toilet roll always bountiful - a very important feature! Also I really liked the large caddies in the shower cubicles.
The site had very friendly and helpful staff and as a result there was a pleasant friendly atmosphere among the others visitors.
My only negatives as a mum would be that although the showers were very hot for kids but lovely for us
Great Site. We would love to come back again.

Hadrians wall campsite was a beautiful site, area and views were amazing. Unfortunatley wouldn't recommend the site for children as not much to do, the play den was in dissrepair and spot the sheep gets a little boring!.
But if you are after a very quiet, peaceful retreat this site would be perfect. Toilets are very clean and everyone is made to muck in and mop up after they have used them, as they have a slight flooding problem when in constant use. Would go back again but maybe leave the kids at home next time.

Stayed here twice in the space of a couple of weeks. Enjoyed it so much the first time we had to go back. The site was very clean, tidy and well tended.
The facilities were also clean and well kept. The toilets, showers, etc. Are in a smart log cabin, which fits in with the relaxed feel of the site. The wardens and owners were very helpful and great fun with a good sense of humour. And provided us with a good breakfast; excellent value.
The second visit was over a Bank Holiday weekend and the owner apologised when he had to put a tent next to us, but quite frankly it was no closer than you would expect on any site, particularly during a Bank Holiday.
All in all a really good site. We will certainly be going back there again.

Passable site but not as good as the pictures or description give in our opinion.
We arrived on the Saturday afternoon of the bank holiday weekend. We had no sooner checked in and been pointed out our pitch than the owner/warden spotted we were in 2 cars. Oh that's extra he says which we refused to pay due to already being charged more than the advertised price for the pitch.
The pitch we had been assigned on the grass area near the bottom of the site according to our booking card was taken by somebody else. It was on a steep slope and our van bottomed out at the rear trying to manoeuvre it in to position. Had we not had blocks with us we would not of been able to level up. Very little distance between vans.
Electrics tripped a couple of times with very little being on in the van. The water and waste points were in a good position for us but must of been a nightmare for those on hard standing pitches. It is a steep climb to those.
Toilets and showers were a long way from perfect. The showers were push button and lasted 15 seconds at the most. The water from the shower ran into an open drain at the rear of the cubicle. Drop your soap and your digging in something rather disgusting to retrieve it.
On one morning, out of the 3 toilet cubicles in the gents. One had no paper and one had a broken handle that meant closing it holding onto the door top.
The on-site shop was extortionate. Being a country lad I was very disappointed in their so called free range eggs as well. £2 for half a dozen and tasted more like supermarket eggs to me.
Both directions leading to the site involve very steep hills. If you don't have a powerful towing car you may struggle.
Could be a lovely site with cracking views with just a little work and more investment in cleaning and design.

Management response: To clarify, this customer arrived with 2 cars and four people. What was booked was one car and two people. He was charged exactly as price list, but customer refused to pay for extra car and extra people.
Customer was pitched in the original assigned area which was one of our more level areas. There was no complaint about the pitch. The caravan did not bottom out as he was seen moving the caravan. It was a busy time but the pitches are marked giving a more than adequate space between pitches.
Electrics - customer was plugged into a brand new 16amp unit.
The showers are included in the price push button lasts 30 seconds of piping hot water. There is a unit provided within the shower cubicles for soap etc. There a drain outside the shower cubicles to take the soapy water away. The toilet cubicles each have huge rolls of toilet paper and are checked every hour in busy times. There never has been a broken door handle if so it would of been repaired immediately.
Water and waste are within 10 steps from the hard standing areas on totally level ground.
The shop is more of a convenience for our visitors than profit making. If the customer had been more observant he would have seen our free range hens running about. He might also have noticed no stamp on the eggs!!!
Finally there is a steep hill to the site but in 15 years no one has had any problem, however you can also approach the site downhill easily.
The customer could of approached the warden, or owner at any time with any grievances but did not choose to do so. |

Our party consisted of 2 adults and 2 small children in a touring caravan and awning.
This is a beautiful location with nice views but there is a very steep hill from the A69 leading up to the site. I would advise coming from the north end on the military road if the weather is poor.
We were on a grass pitch and many are on uneven ground. It was difficult to get level and get the caravan back off the wet grass.
Grass was well maintained and the grounds were lovely. It was very windy when we were there and it was a test getting the awning up. I spoke to a guy who has a seasonal pitch who said it is a sun trap in the summer.
Very friendly warden who is there all of the time and is available for help and advice.
Most notably I borrowed an electric cable as mine was too short. He also offered to tow my caravan out with his 4x4 if I was struggling which put my mind at rest.
There is a little shop with all sorts for sale, you will not have to worry if you forget something. Washing and drying facilities are available at a charge and are very useful. The toilets and shower block are very clean, modern and the showers are free.
The site seems to attract a wide range of visitors from caravanners, campers and hikers alike staying throughout the site.
The kids play area / barn is no longer habitable. I would not recommend letting your kids play in it. The management seem well aware of this and I am sure it will be rectified.
We had problems with the electric which speaking to other visitors is a common problem. Your trip switches seem sensitive and using a heater and a few lights seems to trip the electric regularly.
This is an excellent base to explore the north east and north west with many Roman excavations and museums nearby.
A supermarket and kids soft play is within 5 minutes at haltwhistle. Great local shops for all your needs.
I would highly recommend this site to anyone wanting to visit the area.
Each site I have visited has its own unique issues, as long as you are aware of them then there are no surprises!

Just had a lovely few days at this site, which is situated less than mile from Hadrians Wall on a very quiet road.
The pitches all have great views and although many are grass there are some hard standing.
We found the wardens very helpful and dog friendly. We sampled their breakfasts and home baking - a very nice bonus.
The facilities are heated, clean and fairly new. Showers work well and are free and there's a hairdryer in the ladies block (no charge).
The laundry room doubles up as a drying room - useful after a days wet walking. The unpolluted clear night skies were amazing.

Visited this site for the first time in March this year. We arrived in the dark and were greeted by a very helpful warden who guided us to our pitch, even though it was after 7pm this was not a problem. Providing you let the site know of your arrival time then they will do their best to accommodate. The site has a small shop where you can purchase basics plus the wardens also will cook breakfast if ordered the night before, prices very reasonable. Toilet and washing facilities are warm and clean with the added bonus of a drying room. The site is very well placed to visit Hadrians wall and views from the campsite are very good. A very peaceful and pretty site, well worth a visit.

This was our second visit to this site this season and we had a great time. On the first night we had the site to ourselves. As always, toilets and shower block were lovely and warm and spotlessly clean.
The new warden is a great fellow and always happy to help in any way he can.
There was a very heavy frost on the days we were there, but the facilities held out well.
Try the freshly laid eggs - they were delicious.
An excellent base for touring Northumberland and very close to Hadrian's Wall.
