Stayed here for 4nights at the end of July '07 in a 2man tent. The site is fairly easy to find being not far from Haltwhistle. I agree with the previous reviewer that the signs to 'check in' are unclear but thats no problem once you've worked out that you need to go to the conservatory at the back of the main house towards the far lefthand corner of the site. The toilet block is brand new and made from wood. Its not finished yet - the disabled toilet / shower isnt yet available. The laundry room has a fridge and free washing machine. The 3 sinks for washing up are outside of the front of the block under the verandah part. There is a pinned up OS map of the area. Although the toilet block is brand new I felt it wasn't finished very well. In the gents there are 3 wash-hand-basins, no hot-air hand dryer (just a rather used looking towel) and 3 toilets and 3 showers. Some of the finishing around the showers needs done (eg. Tops of walls between showers are exposed cement). The toilets/showers are clean, although I found the constant presence of a mop & bucket full of dirty water rather off-putting. Its full of mucky water - please take it away each night rather than leave it in the toilets. The site is on levels. Base level is a small green field area. The grass looked green and well cared for but it was quite tightly packed with tents and caravans. There is a small duck pond outside the toilet block. The remainder of the site is built into a hill with levelled areas as you go up. We were 2nd from the top level. The ground up here does have quite a few stones in it but is fairly level. At the end of July weather was mixed and there was quite a lot of wet patches around. Each of the levels has room for about 3-4 tents or small caravans. The levels can be a bit of a squeeze if you are trying to avoid wet/stony patches on which to pitch. The best thing about this site is its about 1mile (30min walk at most) to the best pub in the area, the Milecastle Inn (see http://www.milecastle-inn.co.uk/). The site is also very very close to argueably the best bit of Hadrians Wall. Its a 30min walk up to the wall and then you can walk the 5miles or so along to Housesteads fort etc. The AD122 bus is excellent and runs right past the campsite (about 5-10min walk from the road). On some of the buses the driver gives a comentary of the area. Ask nicely and the driver will drop you off at the campsite turning. All-in-all its a good little campsite. Toilet block needs finished. Excellent location. Haltwhistle has a Co-Op (about 5-10min drive down the hill).

We stayed here for three days last summer. The location was excellent and the couple who ran it were lovely, free fresh eggs for breakfast! If this hadn't of been the case I might have gone mad with the toilet facilities! Not the best! Based in an old mobile caravan and a bit dirty. Several bugs in the showers. But I'm a picky women. As I said, though the area and people were great. Two pubs near the site, one excellent with very large plates of food and a friendly atmosphere!

Stayed three nights over Whitsun weekend with group of (mature) friends in five tents. First, signage is confusing. A sign tells you to check in at house with an arrow pointing the way, but another sign saying "Private" implies that you'd be trespassing if you did. Another sign, pointing to a cul-de-sac, says "One Way", and one of our number was asked to move her car from an area labelled "Car Park". However, the site is being remodelled with the construction of a new shower/toilet block; on its completion in a few weeks all should be remedied. We all had a bit of a laugh over it. Site owner could not be more friendly. Met us on arrival, pointed out features/facilities, was always around if we had a question, enjoyed a chat. Had thoughtfully reserved an area large enough for all our tents, which made the weekend nicer for all. The campsite is a series of fairly isolated terraces linked by a gravel road. This gives the impression that, although not large, the site appears smaller than it actually is (which I think is a good thing). We stayed on the lowest level, "Basecamp. The terraces go up in altitude until Everest is reached. The trade-off is shelter vs. View - and it can be quite windy. While there are no playgrounds for kids, an area of grass is kept free for games. A nice touch was the provision of a couple of large picnic tables, one of which we snaffled for our pitches. Our area had enough flat grass for our tents, but some pitches can slope appreciably. If this is an issue I would recommend requesting a level pitch when booking. The site is situated in a fairly isolated but pretty spot, five mins drive from Haltwhistle, Hadrian's Wall and a couple of fine pubs. We ate and drank at the Twice-Brewed Inn, close enough to walk to, and were impressed by its friendliness, range of real ales, food and traditional ambiance. Had the new toilet facilities not been under construction, describing the present ones would have taken some time, but "grim" will sum them up. The new block is nearing completion though (£70K investment), and from what I could see they will be first-class. Prices are very reasonable indeed, rent for our large tent, + 2 + electricity was only £12 per night. Our group's two dogs were not charged for at all! There is a "No disposable BBQ" rule which, quite reasonably, the owner introduced because of irresponsible campers who lit them on or close to grass with predictable results. However, once we showed him the high stands (150cm) on which we would be using ours he was fine. I would certainly use this site again, but ensuring the new toilets and showers are up and running.

Touring caravan, two tents, plus awning. Great site, ideally placed for Hadrians' Wall (10 mins walk). Very relaxed atmosphere, owner very welcoming. The guy was, at the time of our visit, run off his feet due to the site and lambing, but was very amiable throughout. Great choice of site pitches. Showers not the best, but then again, neithers mine at home. Much prefer this type of site to the bigger more regimented sites. Will be back. AD122 bus (Hadrians Wall Shuttle) will pick up/drop off at the top of the road 200m from site, although this is not an approved stop. - just stick your hand out! 2 good pubs within walking distance, Milecastle Inn takes dogs. Great beer at both.

Friendly site cleverly laid out on several levels - I'll not spoil the surprise by telling you how they are imaginatively marked out/named. The views here are lovely, & the site very handy for the Roman Wall, visitor information centre and for supplies from Haltwhistle - a 3 mile drive, or nice 1.5 mile walk over the fields. A good fair price and no extra charges for showers (other sites please take note!). The site was fairly busy, but well spread out despite the small actual size due to the layout. We never had to wait for toilets or showers either. For the 3 of us plus large tent it was £11 per night. Good value. We will be back.

We visited Hadrian's Wall campsite over the Easter weekend. The owner was very friendly and gave us an excellent pitch. The site is on a quite steep hillside and has been landscaped so the are different terraces on which to pitch. Each pitch has loads of room and offer good views but little shelter when the wind picks up. The facilities on site are fairly basic. There are two toilets, showers and sinks in both the ladies and gents toilet blocks and I can imagine when the site is full there would be queues for these. The village of Haltwhistle is about a mile and a half away and has shops including a Co-op and several pubs. The best of these is the Black Bull which had 6 different hand pulled beers and a nice atmosphere. There are two quite upmarket pub/restaurants within walking distance too. The Twice Brewed Inn had a good selection of ales, but we chose to eat at the Milecastle Inn. The homemade pies are very tasty, if a little pricey. The walk back from either of these pubs is along the main road, so isn't too scenic. The site is also very close to hadrian's Wall, as the name suggests so is a good base if you want to walk it.

A cracking site! Secluded location with great views, but with walks from the site in all directions, including good remains of the wall (20 mins walk) and Haltwhistle (1 and a half miles). Showers clean and tidy, plenty hot water and very friendly, informal service. The best thing about this site is that it has a real camping feel - rugged, hillside site, but with the benefits of electric hook ups etc. They are planning to build a modernised shower block in Spring 2007. Will be returning soon.

Wonderful site . With amazing views if you choose the higher areas (we were on Everest). The owner could not have been more helpful. The showers and washing facilities are a little basic (although kept very clean) and were not very roomy. But the rest of the stay was so fabulous (despite wind and some rain) that it was easy to live with this. A real bonus is that we were not crowded on top of other campers. We'll be back.

My 7 year old son and I stayed here for a few nights during the last week of the school summer holidays. We were made really welcome by the site owner who let us choose our pitch. Tents, Caravans and Motor homes are mixed on this site and most have EHU. The toilet and shower facilities were always clean and the site was well maintained. The site is ideally located for many of the main sites of Hadrians Wall. There are two pubs within a few minutes drive of the site and the town of Haltwhistle is only a mile and a half away with a selection of shops, banks etc. This is a lovely site and my son really enjoyed staying here. We plan to return at some time in the near future.

We had a great time here, loads to visit, great for walkers. It is a farm, a very clean Farm not like some we have been to. Ducks, hens, rabbits can be seen every day, oh! and sheep, cows, but they are in other fields. Great for children. The owner is very friendly and will help you in anyway he can, breakfast to order, milk, and free range eggs. Showers, toilets very clean, what more do you need? will visit again. Thank you
