Location:
Beautifully located site, about a mile from Hadrian's Wall. Haltwhistle is about three miles away and it is possible to walk to the Twice Brewed and Milecastle pubs for decent food and drink.
Facilities:
The toilet and shower facilities are superb, with modern, heated shower cubicles. There's a mixture of hardstandings and grass pitches. Bunk barn and cafe on site.
We were a little disappointed on our last stay. We arrived after paying in full to be told we'd been undercharged, then told we'd have to park in the carpark unless I wanted to be towed off the grass, so I ended up in a tight spot between the bins and the toilet disposal point!
Prices:
£21 for two people - a bit more costly than the £15 I paid last time for a large pitch with a great view.

Found this caravan site on the web site directions are very easy. Stayed for 2 nights, the site is on several levels so not many caravans in one place which makes it more personal. There is a small shop in reception, the showers, which are free and plenty of hot water, and toilet block is very spacious and clean with free hair dryer. There is an area out side to wash pots if you need to. There are picnic benches around to sit at to eat outside, and there is a small pond with ducks that walk about the site. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Haltwhistle village is only a couple of miles away. There are 2 pubs at the end of the lane, Milecastle Inn about 1 mile and Twice Brewed about 2 miles, not the 1 mile as stated in the directions, take a torch if walking at night. Would certainly stay here again and recommend it to anyone.

This is a very good base for walking Hadrians Wall it is basic but tidy, clean and has most of what you need for a camping holiday. You can choose where you pitch and the site is well drained but can be exposed to high winds. shower facilities are first class with a modern fully heated log cabin. There is a small shop where you can buy provisions and a cafe area where you can obtain a cooked breakfast overall a backpackers heaven. This site also has pitches for touring caravans which are level. Costs are modest and there is also good information on the local area readily available. I should also say there is a good washing up area and a good warm barn if you get washed out by our ever changing weather.

We turned up Saturday lunch time and was shown a pitch with a small river running through it. We asked to move and were told well it has been raining. After some time we got moved up the steep bank and to get my van in place I had to use my friends 4x4. The pitch size was the around only 16 feet with 6 feet between the next one. The electric kept going off in my friends van when only using a small amount. We were then told to park our car in front of our van so blocking our great views.
The shower block was very strange with a door at each end with access past the ladies and the door was kept open so you could see in, not good when you are trying to change small children. The chemical point was just a hole in the ground with a metal plate over it. If you have very young toddlers watch out for the duck pond that does not have any fence around it. There is a small shed with play den on it, I went over and had a look at it the shed should be pulled down as it looked rotten and I stopped them playing in it. The kitchen area was right next to the reception area along the walk way so every 2 minutes you had to move to left people past. The good thing about this site is the location and it could be the best site.

Quick word about this site. Fantastic. One of the best places to stay. The staff are the best iv come across. The toilet block is new and very well kept. Loads of hot water. Site shop, usual essential bits. Will do breakfast, just tell em what you want. We tried this it was very good. When you approach the site you have to look for the flags as the site entrance is in a tree line. A local pub called the mile castle is just that a mile way. This serves excellent food and beer. The whole area is of outstanding scenery. BUT the weather, the weather can be good in the morning, it can change with in a few hours to monsoon and Gail force winds. The site is set on different levels. For the light wait tents better pitch at the bottom level were its more sheltered. Its a great place for back packers, and motor bike tourers.
I would highly recommend this site, Ideal positioned for the wall. Which is about half a mile away. The site location is centrally positioned just off the military road for visits to all the Roman fort museums.

What a wonderful site. Although I have recently camped for a couple of nights with my sister, mum and neice, this was the first time my husband has camped since a child. I was a bit apprehensive he wouldn't like it (especially after forking out for all the gear), but as soon as we pulled into the site to check in he was smitten!
The owner - great guy - booked us in and showed us the available pitches, and gave us the option of camping in the 'wild meadow' which we did. Wow. What views over the valley. Although the wild meadow was slightly sloping and a little bumpy in places, it didn't detract at all from the experience. The terraced pitches below however all looked extremely flat and level.
The toilets, showers and pot-washing area were imaculate at all times. Lovely touches such as Radio 2 piped into the showers, vases of wild flowers, washing up bowls and dish drainers made this campsite by the far the best of the three I've stayed at so far. The little shop was adequately stocked, but more importantly, wasn't overpriced. Didn't eat at the cafe, but the cooked breakfasts certainly smelt good!
It took about 10 mins to walk to Hadrian's wall along the very quiet road. The dogs loved it, we loved it, and would have stayed longer than our four nights, but we had a cottage booked on Holy Island so we reluctantly had to leave.
We're both now totally hooked on camping and will definitely return to this site.

We booked for 6 nights, we left after 3. We came back from a days walking to find a large tent being set up within a foot, yes 12 inches (photos to prove), of our caravan.
We asked the site owner to re-site the tent owners and were met with a 'put up with it, the weather has been bad for a month'. We were offered a refund and took it. 30 minutes later we were set up on a nearby site for the remaining 3 nights of our holiday. The owners attitude was 'What do you expect me to do - turn them away?' Well yes! If the site is full, its full!
The site is in a lovely location and the toilets and showers are excellent. The push type water flow on the hot water is a tad annoying as they last no more than 15 seconds before you need to repress them to start the shower again. Not a major hassle, but a tad annoying.
Can recommend the AD122 Bus service that runs the length of the wall. We chose to park and one of the various carparks and catch the bus out then walking back. Be careful to check the timings and the direction as they are around 1 hour 20 minutes in frequency.
The previous review about the steep hill and narrow road is a tad misleading. I found it by accident and managed easily to tow my caravan up the hill without a problem. The visitor centor is within a few miles of the site and offers good advice, maps and parking.
Other place to visit, we used Waitrose in Hexham to stock up, we also went to the Beamish Museum - excellent. There is a nice pub with good food in Brampton, the Howard Arms.
One thing to be aware of is the (seeming) lack of signs. We are used to the Lake District where signage is plentyful and easy to follow, in Northumberland the opposite seems to be true. Maybe they want to keep the gems hidden.
Kielder Forest is a nice place, but there is not a lot there other than forest. The visitors centre is very limited. If you are going with kids, take their bikes as there is very little else to do if you don't walk or ride.
It's beautiful and does what it sets out to, but compared to Dlaby Forrest or Griesdale Forrest it lacks user friendliness. The castle is nice and has a decent set of exhibits. Again the signs are very limited and I'm certain lots of people must go away thinking the same. Its just not user friendly in that sense!

I site I don't want to recommend because I want to keep it for myself. What a lovely site. The owners could not do enough for you and were one of the reasons why I would continue to come back here again and again.
The ground was a little boggy when we arrived but soon dried out within a day.
Toilet facilities were first class with radio 2 being piped through. My only complaint is that the volume could have been a bit louder as I'm going deaf.
Very close to historic sites and some great walking. If you are in the area you would be mad not to stay here, although I don't want you too as I want it all for myself.

Can't believe that steve + lynne who ran the site have gone! Their customer service was excellent making us feel comfortable + valued + not just a number! We will certainly miss lynne's home baked scones!
Great site for access to hadrians wall. Haltwhistle has a fab pub called the black bull.
Go see kevin for a pint + some really tasty food. A great chill out place with lovely views and only a short distance to some lovely walking. Toilet facilities were great + always clean.
They have a paddock across the road from the site-brilliant for our hyper cocker spaniel!

Fabulous site with top rate facilities and atmospheric location. Something of Ancient Britain when the sun is setting, Northumbrian standards flying, the sheep make for the high ground and the palomino horses and foal settle down in the neighbouring field.
Easy brisk walk 3-4km (40-45m)to Hadrian's wall at Peel's gap and to the excellent Twice Brewed Inn. Showers and loos incredibly clean and spacious - room to turn round in the shower and not get your dry clothes wet when they are hung up - without resorting to formica sheeting.
Not often, either, that you get to camp on the summit of Everest, which we managed without oxygen. Highly recommended, including the 'Eccentric Owner', Graham, henceforth known as EO - a most engaging man about whom I will not hear a bad word said.
Recommended indeed.
