Arrived in heavy rain and wind and at first the owner Grahem was surprised anyone had turned up at all. The site had been hit by rain pretty much all of August so finding a dry (ish) spot was interesting but eventually we did and then sun come out, briefly.
The facilities appear to be brand new and were spotless. Some task bearing in mind the weather although the number of campers was low. Showers were free and always hot.
The site is within minutes of Hardrians wall with brilliant walks in either direction. We tried the 2 neasrest pubs, Twice brewed and Milecastle and whilst both are within walking distance you do take your life in your own hands on the B road. We got a taxi back and at £6 a little steep for what was a little over a mile journey. The pubs themselves served good food and a selection of real ales.
The owners serve a good full English breakfast (£6) in their country kitchen which we sampled an 2 occasions and fully recommend it.May take you a while to walk it off.
Overall a good site in a great location for walks and visiting Vindolanda etc
Hexham is worth a visit for the Abbey and Haltwistle if you must. Personal opinion

Booking was easy, one quick telephone call and the weekends pitch was booked. On arrival despite the foul weather (well August bank holiday!) we were made welcome and time was spent to show the sites ammenities and to direct us to our pitch. Levelling blocks were available (we were on 'Base camp') which were necessary due to nature of the site on a hillside. Sampled both the nearest pubs, Twice Brewed and The Milecastle. Both provided very good meals at reasonable prices though they are quite busy. Toilet/shower block recently built, regularly cleaned and plenty of hot water. Although we didn't (due to foot injury), you could quite easily walk to local Roman attractions. Vindolandia being well worth a visit. Would definitely stay here again, despite the wind / rain - adds to excitement.

A fairly small compact site with a larger flat area and 3 or 4 raised level pitches. My advice would be try and get a pitch on the larger flat area as we had great difficulty trying to pitch our tent on one of the raised levels due to strong winds. The raised pitches also seem to be the wetter more muddy parts of the site.
Toilet/Shower block was fairly clean although we never saw anyone in there cleaning during our stay. It would be more helpful if people cleaned around the sinks etc after using them, but that's not the sites fault. The mop and bucket in the shower block for clients to clean up after themselves was always full of dirty water which didn't help.
Plenty of sinks for pot washing so no problems there.
Couldn't use disposable BBQ's although there were BBQ's for hire if required, don't see any difference there myself but that's their rules.
Lovely area around the site but whoever said Hadrian's Wall was 10 minutes away must have gone by motorbike as it is really 30 Min's away, and we don't walk slowly.
If you go to this site you must visit Kielder Water as it's beautiful and plenty to keep you occupied all day.

We arrived in shocking weather conditions (wind and horrid rain) and were given a pitch in the most un sheltered space on the whole site!
The greeting was friendly enough but lacked a certain warmth.
Shower block is the BEST ever for a campsite I would imagine although been under 6 feet tall would certainly be an advantage as the shower heads are rather low.
The toilets were checked at regular intervals during the day by the owners and were immaculate.
Our pitch was directly next to the shower block which in some respects was fantastic but noise was a small problem with late night trips from other campers.
There is LOADS to do in the surrounding area and some beautiful walks to go on. We didn't visit any of the pubs although we were told that they are very nice.
All in all an excellent camp site facility wise just not sure that the owner approves of young couples who have a quiet drink on site due to the coolness of his communication with us but as we were out all day every day it didn't really matter.
Would definitely return BUT would request a different pitch.

Spent four wet and windy nights at this peaceful site.
Its best point was proximity to Hadrian's Wall - easy walking distance, and a short drive to the main Roman sites.
We did feel units were very close together (the hardstanding area rather resembled a car park), and did decline the first pitch we were shown as guy ropes would have crossed with our neighbours. We were allowed an alternative pitch but asked to tuck in as much as possible. Despite some very heavy rain, the ground did drain pretty well, and although wet underfoot, wasn't too muddy. The higher levels tend to be quite exposed - windbreaks recommended.
The toilet block was thoroughly cleaned daily, though providing a cleaning cloth for general use might mean campers would leave the sink area less messy. We felt an extra loo or shower might have been a more useful addition than the sauna. Unfortunately the swanky loo paper dispensers did have a habit of jamming up, causing some distress in the middle of the night!
The fridge-freezer was an excellent addition, and the washing and drying facilities were well-used by fellow campers.
Overall a good site in beautiful scenery which in our opinion would be improved by a little more space between pitches.

Just got back from a couple of nights at this fab site. We booked late, and although the main site was full, we were able to pitch on 'the meadow' at a reduced rate.
We cannot give praise high enough for the friendly owners barbara and graham, and the welcome we received was great. The facilities are spotlessly clean and modern and even though the site was busy, we never had to wait to use the showers or toilets.
Close enough to haltwhistle (5 mins in the car)for main shops, takeaways and pubs. The surroundings are beautiful, and its a great base for walks out onto hadrians wall or just out through the countryside. We will most definitely be back again.

Excellent site, good facilities, amazing location, friendly people.
Only two problems. Site on steep hill, difficult with trailer, only three showers-long wait in the evening. We also found it difficult that site fees were subject to change when we arrived even though we had booked. Had to cut our stay short by two days. However as long as you have a flexible budget a very good site. Central heated shower block, kids play shed with lots of toys. Four miles from nearest shops in Haltwhistle, excellent and up to only 4 miles from 3 of the nearest wall walks, outstanding.

Very impressed with site and a lovely welcome. Didn't feel crowded even though there was a block booking of walkers, and there are 3 showers; when I went for a shower they were empty, though I understand the woman's block was a bit more busy! Spotless clean toilet block and lovely and warm. Haltwhistle has some great pubs with good food, and a brilliant pie shop too. Advance booking is essential in season, but well worth it. Best site I've been to for ages. (They'd stopped doing the breakfasts the week we were there, and the sauna was off, but I believe it was a staff shortage, and it was very busy)

One big critisism of this site-no pub in walking distance, but as we can't blame the owners for that we'd have to give this site 9/10. Owners regularly patrol site, it's clean, setting is very scenic. No playground for kids but there are areas where they can play. But essentially it's a very peaceful site, not the cheapest but you get what you pay for and we will definitely return. Regular low flying jets and helicopters from raf base provide quite a spectacle.

This is just a lovely site, the facilities were excellent, it is on 4 tiers, and was fabulous, the owners were very nice and the only downside to this was a couple of days where the morning mist stretched into all day! A great place to tour from, the Kielder lake area was brilliant and my hubby and son caught 7 large trout, which we gave some away and BBQ'd the rest. We would definitely return here.
