This was only my second time camping so it was touch and go as to whether I'd stay or just run to the nearest ensuite facilities. The site was great. Well thought out details, like sinks for washing dishes with drainers/cloths and split level pitches that gave a really nice perspective and feeling of privacy and space. Swanky new shower block was like being in a hotel and smells of lovely new pine. We arrived with a new tent and no clue how to put it up. The woman in reception was really nice and didn't patronise us at all. And then when we came to getting it all out of the bag our lovely neighbour helped us get started (actually he did just about all the hard work - bless him, while I dithered about with a single tent peg). The light/sunsets are amazing, in a quiet secluded spot with no cars whizzing by your head.

Great welcome, great facilities, infact the cleanliiness of the washing up sinks meant I had to put on sunglasses.
The toilet block has a key code system for trips made to it in the middle of the night, and the washing machine was in full working order. These last two points should silence previous reviewers moans. We were up on the 'everest' terrace, great view and not as windswept as expected, though we were using an expedition tent with a low profile.
While we were there a local band put in some rehearsal time in a nearby barn. This meant not only were we in fantastic countryside, but for a couple of hours in the early evening felt we were in a small festival a bonus from our perspective, particulary as the weather was damp. One of the little touches that makes this site exceptional was the little enviromentally conscious touches: real(and clean)hand towels adjacent to the wash basins. One of the best sites in England. Oh,and the wall is worth a visit too.

Hi, it's the owners here. Just had to respond to a comment about the loos being locked until 7 am - they are never locked, everyone gets a security number so they can go all night every night if they wish! Also, next to the washing machine that wasn't plumbed in, was another one that was! There are two washing machines and one tumble drier, as well as a spin drier. No one needs to go home with dirty washing. We are on duty 17 hours a day, any problems just ask.

This site has had a huge investment in the upgrading of its shower/toilet facilities. The block is constructed in lovely Norwegian pine and boasts excellent free showers and free hairdryer. The disabled toilet and shower is housed in its own room and has ample space for wheelchair and any carer that a person might need. In the laundry room there are two fridge's and 1 freezer which are for campers use - all free. Two washing machines and tumble dryer. A free Iron and board has also been provided. Adjacent to the block is the dish washing area which is all undercover - so the kids have no excuse not to lend mums or dads a hand! The site itself is very secluded, boast spectacular views and more importantly has no traffic thundering past. It is in good walking distance to the famous Hadrians Wall which I am told is lovely! The pun there is that I came to this site in late July to visit the Wall and got on so well with Graham and Pat who run the site that I have stayed to work for them - WALL WHAT WALL!? So if you want a relaxing holiday with lots to do and the facilities that you would expect at home then get yourself to this little oasis in Northumberland.

My friends and I camp here three or four times a year. Despite the horrible weather we decided to visit H Wall site just to chill out. Imagine our surprise when we saw the new and fabulous showerblock - like a four star hotel. It rained and rained, but after a long day walking we had endless hot showers and dried our gear in the new laundry room. The shower block is centrally heated so we will definitely be back in the winter! I told the owner that all the site needs now is a sauna - he promises that there will be one next time we visit!

Was welcomed by the owner who showed us the facilties, which are excellent, newly built toilet/shower block with laundry facilities as well. Surrounding area is fantastic, nearest pub is approx 1 mile away. Hadrians wall is within walking distance. Nearest small village is not too far away with all amenities. Would definitely recommend this site and would stay there again. We took our dog with us who also enjoyed the stay.

Firstly, the new facilities are not that great - the water pressure sometimes fails completely. I was told that if this happens you have to press down all the taps! This fault duly occurred when I was stark naked in the shower cubicle, so, yes, I had to wrap myself up and bomb down the line of sinks pressing all the taps. OK, so it worked, but this was not really what I expected from a new £70k block! There were lots of humungous tents on the site and we, with a little two-man, were initially plonked on the end of what looked (and felt) like a bog. We asked to be moved and after a lot of head scratching and excuses ("We've got big units coming in, etc" -Yes, but we booked weeks ahead) we were given a corner of a plot. They actually asked us to get right into the corner and take up as little space as possible. Thanks a lot! Looking around the site I noticed that everyone was pretty much on top of each other. Caravans were parked almost nose to tail. It seemed they were trying to squeeze in as many paying campers as possible. After the slightly stressful set-up we wandered up to the Twice-Brewed (about 1.5 miles along a fast straight road). Great food. Very busy, but they are obviously used to it as service was excellent. Then was kept awake all night by some kids in a tent that looked like the Eden Project. If you a small-scale camper I would not recommend this site as we just did not feel very welcome - were more of a hindrance to all the big guns. Oh yeah, and I don't fancy dancing around the toilet block in the nude again.

Just got back from a really pleasant Bank holiday weekend at this site! The owners couldn't have been more helpful. We rang to enquire on the saturday morning of the august bank holiday about a pitch, thinking we would have no chance! We were told that they had open the meadow , no EHU , but so what, we'd got a pitch! When we arrived ( 2 tents, 2 female adults and 3 kids) the owner very kindly said he would fit us on the main site if we wanted, but we decided to rough it on the meadow any way! Although a bit of a walk to the toilets and shower block! (which was only to be expected, as we were in the overflow field) It was worth it when we got there! YES! the NEW SHOWER BLOCK and TOILETS are OPEN! FREE! yes thats right FREE HOT SHOWERS! very clean and finished to a high standard! also there was a fridge, freezer, washer and drier in the block We will be visiting this site again!

We spent four days at the Hadrian's Wall Site in August 2007 and had a wonderful time. The site is just how sites used to be in the good old days but with all mod coms!
It would be difficult to get lost near the site as it is well signposted from the B6318 and is between the 'Milecastle' and 'Twice Brewed' pubs, so you know if you've gone too far.
As you arrive at the site you are requested to go to the house but in fact the owners will probably be around, will wave to you and will direct you straight away to a pitch. The formalities at the house will be done later. If you do go the wrong way there is no problem, you can always get out at the other end!
We were put on 'Base Camp' which of course is at the bottom of the site. From there the road goes up to the other terraces, all named after mountains, until you reach 'Everest' at the top. The terraces are virtually flat but if any pitches are sloping the owners have provided sturdy wooden levellers for vans. There are excellent views all around but the lower levels are obviously more sheltered. The higher you go the less likely there is to be electricity. Tents tend to go on the terraces, though there is a good mix of units. There are also picnic tables scattered around.
Across the road there is a huge field on the lower slopes of the fells where tents of all sizes can be pitched. That really is like old fashioned camping, with sheep on the other side of the walls and a short walk down the road to the toilet block on the main site.
The new toilet block is excellent. As well as showers at no extra cost, toilets and washbasins there are sinks for washing up, a washing machine and dryer and two fridges and a freezer where you can put your own food or freeze blocks. The toilets are kept very clean and are not closed for two hours for cleaning as they are on many sites.
The owners are extremely friendly and are always around to help, give information, or just to have a chat.
The area around the site is great. Because the Romans built their roads and walls on the hills rather than in the valleys, the views are tremendous: there is always a parking site wherever there is something to see, and at £2.00 for the whole day you can leave the cars and have a good long walk. There are footpaths everywhere and so much to see. It's like the Lake District without the crowds and the expense. Oh yes, and the beer at the local is £2.20 a pint.
All in all highly recommended!

Everything seemed fine when we arrived, the owner was indeed most helpful, as other reviewers have said. However, we desperately needed a washing machine. Despite the stated details of facilities, the lovely new washing machine in its lovely new room wasn't plumbed in. Four children, piles of dirty washing, no chance of dealing with it all. We weren't happy and left after one night although we paid for two. Also, be warned on something else, too. The toilet/shower block is locked at night, and opened at 7 a.m. Basically, if you're the nocturnal 'need the loo when others are asleep and isn't it a free country' sort, with any kind of desire for clean clothes, don't go here. Or take disposable underwear.
