What a great little site! Small, friendly and welcoming with great views in all directions. We were met by the owner and given a choice of pitch. Although he did recommend where we went, he definitely didn't insist. I loved the laid back atmosphere and homely feel of this place.
Toilets and free showers are basic but more than adequate, free access to a fridge freezer for storage of food / ice packs, washer and dryer available for clothes (at a small charge) washing up equipment and hair drier provided free.
The chickens were welcome visitors at our tents, I think they were supposed to be in an enclosure but nobody thought to tell them that! Ditto the ducks who popped by a couple of times.
We didn't make use of the cooked breakfasts or transport on offer, but what a great little extra for those who did want them.
Far better than the commercial sites with the regimented rows of tents, give me a place like this any time! Highly recommended, we'll certainly be back if we have the chance.
Thanks for a lovely few days.

Small site run by friendly, helpful hosts in attractive setting with great views. Excellent base for walking – one of the best sections of Hadrian’s Wall Trail is about 1 kilometre to north; visiting Roman sites, such as Vindolanda (excellent) and Housesteads; and visits further away, e.g.  Kielder Forest and Newcastle. Newcastle is about 1 hour’s train ride from Haltwhistle. The Once Brewed National Park Visitor Centre and Haltwhistle Tourist Info Centre are worth a visit for info and leaflets.
Some pitches are on level terraces; some are slightly sloping; some have hook-ups. Facilities including freezer, toilets, showers and washing-up sinks are housed in a portakabin and are OK but not luxurious -  the campsite fees reflect this.
A good facilities block would change my opinion of this site from ‘very good’ to ‘excellent’. Two local pubs – the Milecastle and the Twice Brewed – offer wholesome pub food and good real ales. I would not recommend walking back to the campsite from either as the B6318  Military Road is a fast road with no safe footpath. Overall I would recommend this site

This is a very good site for anyone who wants to get away from it all. Set in a valley and just a nice easy walk to Hadrian's Wall, A short drive to Haltwhisle for shops. No pub on site the nearest is probably a good twenty  minutes walk.
The owners are very friendly and will do their best to help with anything.
Toilet block/showers are a bit basic as they are a portacabin but are always kept clean and maintained well they also have a sink for dishes, washing machine and dryer, and a freezer for ice packs (a new block is planed to be built in the Autumn/Winter).  As large tent user it was good to have the hook-up electric point. No play area for kids. Would defiantly go back again.
Great for one night passing as many units did that during our five night stay.

I would just like to add a few words of thanks to the owner for the lovely weekend we had last week. He even arranged red hot sunshine for us. We were met as soon as we pulled into the site and parked up the caravan for us to ensure it was on the level. My daughter had a broken arm and was offered a ride on his quad bike. Fantastic views, lovely setting. Lots of thought and time gone into making this a nice little site, such as each level is named (Base Camp, K2, Anna Purna, Everest, etc). Even the "porta cabin" with the loos, showers, fridge, washer etc, was painted with flowers to make it look pretty. We will be back. Arnie!

Lovely clean site, free showers and hairdryer which is an added bonus. Views are great close to local places of interest. Roman museum, Hadrian's wall. Safe secure site for the kids. Enjoyed the site and its facilities. Only down side was the freezing weather. Would recommend

My first time camping with my 2 year old so did not go far from home took my 10 year old too.

This camp site is really friendly, top quality. We stayed on the top part of the site the owners are very helpful and friendly and are only to willing to help you. They even come around the site on the night time to see if everyone is happy and all right.

A class place to stay I will defo go back there.

A real gem! Only stayed at this site for a night while travelling but liked the mix of tents, caravans and motorhomes. The site has fabulous views and is very handy for Hadrian's wall and visiting the local museums and ruins. It is fairly level with good clean facilities - toilets, showers, washing up area, but you will need a very long hose or a water carrier (information for motorhomers). The owners are very friendly and will help in any way, you can even buy BBQ packs and order breakfast if you want. Nice change to the large formal sites but with full facilities.

Just got back from a lovely weekend at this site. The views are to die for and the owners are very helpful. This is a working sheep farm so you do have the quad bike going out to the sheep at 8am but that's all the noise we heard. It was a very friendly site and everyone got on well. The toilet block is an old porta cabin and had toilets showers and sinks in. There is also washer dryer and fridge freezer. The owner is happy to supply basic essentials. You can leave the site and walk for miles in practically all directions.

There wasn't any shops or pubs near by but there was a bus stop outside of the gates. Haltwhistle itself is only a mile and a half walk over the hills and the owner is happy to take you or pick you up. Hadrians wall was about 20 minute slow plod from the site and again you can walk there. This is hill country so take your walking boots.
On the site there is a pond which looked quite deep and had ducks on it.

The site is on tiers and is sloping but again the owner will help you get level if needed. The top couple of tiers have no electric hookups.
There was no access to the clean water or waste water for MH's. The owner lent us a long hose to fill up the water with but we couldn't empty anywhere.

Although there wasn't any play equipment for the children the owner did say in the summer the children play in a nearby paddock.

We had a great time and are planning a return trip in the summer.

Had great weekend here - fab views, easy to find too! Owner really friendly, very welcoming and helpful. They do take dogs (incase you're a bit wary of dogs like me!), the owners dog is really friendly though. Lovely to see chickens walking about-as they tend to escape!Bought lots eggs to take home too.

Toilet block had 2 toilets/showers (free) each, free hairdryer in ladies. Water pressure a bit dodgy for showers, but there was mains leak when we were there. Had electric hookup -no probs. Weather was pretty wet a lot of Fri/Sun, but good drainage and no probs with getting caravan going again on the Sunday.Great on a clear night - no light pollution, so sky fantastic!

Ideal location to visit Roman sites, but also good location to travel further afield. We went to Milecastle for food, food was fab (about £7-9 for main course)! Was quite quiet so went to to Twice Brewed for a drink, was more lively. We were a bit lazy and didn't walk very far, but did visit Roman sites Birdoswald and the Quarry nearby to visit the wall.

Travelled to Beamish Open Air Museum on Sat (Chester le Street) -would def recommend, so much to see/do: trams, open top buses, mines - lots to keep anyone entertained! On way home, went to Roman sites, so wen to Samson Inn for food-good traditional pub grub (Near Gilston)

Our second time camping, ( but our first time in taking our dog!) A great site, with mostly flat pitches, duck pond, rabbits and chickens, the site owner was very friendly and made you feel very welcome (even got to have a ride on his quad bike!), great walks especially if wanting to do a walk along the roman wall, not far from Haltwhistle, The site had great views from all angles, toilet facilities ok, taking our dog was no problem, and would go back to this site without hesitation.
