Amazing site, amazing location and amazing wardens! Honestly, the wardens are what makes this site so special. They make you feel at home and even remember your names! We were helping to bottle feed the hand reared lambs whilst we were there, which was brilliant fun. The facilities were spotless and never closed for cleaning! They just popped in at various times during the day to make sure they were always spotless. Absolute credit to the wardens. There were some groups on the site, but they were always really well behaved, I was impressed! Even the group of guys were really good, in fact the worst were the young teenage girls with their high pitched screams, but generally they were so tired after a days walking that they were in bed very early! Ah. Now the walking. Amazing walks along Hadrian's Wall from the site, as well as loads of other paths around the site. We ventured further afield and walked a stretch of the Pennine Way from Garrigill, which turned out to be one of the best stretches of the walk, we later found out, and we certainly agree that cross fell had breathtaking views! You can walk to Haltwhistle if you like, but we generally drove due to heavy shopping and there is free parking with no height restrictions. We also went north to Scotland and Kielder which was lovely and had loads of walks and tracks. Already planning on heading back to the site as we were so impressed with it. The slight down mark is for value for money as there is a charge of £2. 50 per dog, per night during the main season, which compared to an adult of £3 we thought was quite high as the dogs don't use the facilities! So it made it £26pn for us in a caravan, 2 adults, 2 dogs, no electric, but I think it was worth it! The shop had some basic camping facilities and supplies as well as providing takeaway pizza delivered to your pitch and breakfasts. There were also eggs from the chickens and some baking on offer. Unfortunately the ducks who wander around the site didn't provide any eggs for sale. We will be back soon to see how Boris and Dave, the lambs, are doing!

We have just returned home from a bank holiday weekend away to this campsite. This was my second visit to this site and I'll certainly not hesitate to 1) recommend it to anyone wishing to visit the area and 2) return there myself for another break.
The wardens are very friendly and nothing seems to be too much bother for them. You'll be assured of a very warm welcome. The last time I camped here I was on the top level of the first field you come in to and it was lovely (although a little way from the facilities), this time we were placed just by the main gate - not the best of pitches when you're going to sleep early due to the coming and going of vehicles right past your tent - but I've learnt and will request a pitch away from the main gate at my next visit.
There are 4 highly sociable ducks who wander around the site - they are the first up in the morning as they patrol around chattering to each other, then go to sleep when the campers get up! A lovely addition to the site. There are currently two lambs being cared for and it was wonderful to see them following the warden around as they were put into the field each day.
There's a small shop/cafe on site selling some basics, or you can pre-order take away pizza, have coffee/tea and a scone or enjoy a pre-ordered home cooked breakfast.
The facilities are nice, early morning seems to be the busiest for the showers so we tended to shower in the evening instead - always hot water. There's an area for you to wash up with hot water and there are laundry facilities too (at additional cost). There is free wifi available and a donation requested, but it's extremely patchy, slow and difficult to connect to for any length of time.
Dogs are required to be kept on their leads on this site, unfortunately there are some people who appear to think this rule doesn't apply to them, on Sunday morning a child was chasing a dog that was chasing the poor ducks around - the ducks were understandably quacking in panic and the child was calling the dog - at 0450! On Sunday evening we had a visit from a dog that had been let off the lead, unfortunately we 'were' asleep at the time and the owner coming over for the dog woke us

An interesting site in a fine location with good facilities including a workable wi-fi. However the pitches for motor homes are extremely tight, even more so than a busy French Aire - disappointing as their charges are quite high and extra is demanded for a motor home compared to a campervan. Also we could do without so many notices around with threats of on the spot fines for this that and the other - not the way to encourage good behaviour.

Just had an excellent long weekend at this most delightful site hidden away in a hillside of Northumberland. The entire process from making the booking to our departure was pleasant and so simple.
We were greeted on arrival by a warm and friendly warden followed by a brief but detailed tour of the site and facilities. We were even given advice as to where best to site our caravan for the great views and sunsets!
From then on, apart from our interventions with wardens, we were completely left to our own devices.
This is a beautiful clean quiet site, tucked in the hillsides and away from main roads, but less than a mile from some key areas of Hadrians wall.
The pitches were very well presented and the facilities all spotless, a credit to the wardens.
The sites facilities included separate male and female wash rooms and each included; shower cubicles, separate toilet cubicles, wash basins and hand dryers.
There was a laundry room, complete with washer and dryer, and to the outside of the rustic timber building, there were pot washing facilities.
The site also has a small shop that sells the basics as well as refreshments and nibbles, although as the site wasn't busy this didn't appear open during our stay.
The site has a number of hard standing and soft pitches, the latter being on various levels throughout the site, giving every visitor a chance to obtain a great view from their pitch! Access to pitches with a large tourer was relatively simple and unencumbered, all pitches appeared relatively flat and level.
Electric hook up was to 10Amp point, so there was ample power for heating and other electrical necessities during our stay.
The sites Wifi cover was acceptable for our occasional needs, mobile phone coverage was good, (only able to comment on EE), radio signal was also good, and we assume TV coverage similar.
The site was dog friendly, and there was sufficient space for anyone with children to play without upsetting other holiday makers.
There are numerous walks from the site, but it's worth investing in an OS map to make best use of the paths and course ways.
Locally, a good walk or short drive, there are plenty of pubs serving food and assorted beers / ales, and if you wanted a bigger shop, there is also a reasonable sized Sainsbury's in Haltwhistle.
We would certainly visit this site again, it gets a 10 out of 10 from both of us!

Fantastic little site, really well set out and stunning views. Wardens are lovely and friendly, very helpful and great on site provisions and you can order homemade breakfast and pizza for dinner. Facilities are great, very clean, everything you could need. Site is in a great location for Hadrians Wall, if we had of found this earlier in the trip we would have stayed longer. Local pub about mile & half The Milecastle Inn is excellent, lovely food & staff.

Wow, what a wonderful site, brilliant reception from the wardens, told us where everything was.
The site is on different levels so you could be at base station or k2
There is a small shop on site.
Toilets very clean and tidy.
No play ground for children, but maybe this is not a site for children.
Plenty of walks around the area, Hadrians Wall being one of them.
Pub about 1 mile 1/2 miles
Had a nice relaxed few days here.

This is a Site with so much going for it:
* Excellent staff, friendly, helpful, toilets and washing areas were always clean
* Location - ~1 mile from the Wall and within walking distance of some of the most iconic parts - Housesteads, Sycamore Gap, Cawfields.
* Quiet area but just off the B6318 Military Rd.
* Good quality toilets and showers.
We only saw one drawback in that motorhomes were packed in very close together.
This seems to be a Site that gets a lot of one night stops for Motorhomes, but it is ideally located for anyone exploring the area. Its an easy, less than 2 mile walk across fields to Haltwhistle too.

Found the site easily, although a bit isolated, and near Hadrians Wall, and therefore we spoke to a few visitors from other countries who were walking the Wall, which was nice.
Lovely site with immaculate toilets and showers, with music played even late at night. Sue and her husband always cleaning. Very friendly and helpful couple. They have a small shop and café on site, but we didn't use either.
Our tent was pitched at the highest level, called Everest, (not that high really) which had great views, and lovely on our first day, but, very windy for the second.
Small pond near reception which the ducks enjoyed.
The birds around our tent were great to see. Singing away from 5am!
Nothing really for the children, no play area.
But we loved this site and look forward to returning soon.
