This is a nice site but the pitch we were on was not suitable for us.
The slope was really bad so we had to raise one side so high our steps were not big enough we had to put chocks under them so I could get in. Then we couldn't get off the pitch as it was so wet and steep the owner had to put boards under our car. Recommend you ask for hard standing if in a tourer.
Shame as the site is really nice and in a wonderful location.
Owners were lovely.

Management response: Dear Lesley
Thank you for taking the time to register with UKCampsite. Co. Uk in order to post a review of our little campsite. We are so glad you appreciated the location and naturally disappointed that you felt that your pitch was unsuitable. We emailed you personally on the 24th April and still await a response regarding a return visit.
We accept that our site isn’t a large flat field with rows of pitches but instead it's set on a gentle slope on a hillside which gives it the character and views that bring our guests back over and over. We accept your pitch has a slight slope but it’s been used for caravans for 25 years and last year alone we had 120 caravan bookings on that pitch without complaint and requests to return to that specific pitch
We always advise customers to place their caravan to the left of the pitch in order to avoid the slope and the problems that you experienced with your steps. We thought that you chose not to do that because you didn’t feel it was necessary. The owners of the caravan on the pitch today (pictured) are very happy particularly as the views from that pitch are glorious
We really do want our guests to have a lovely time with us and we will always try to do something to resolve any issues that may occur during someone’s stay by either helping out or moving someone if they are not happy with the pitch. As you can imagine, we feel disappointed that we weren’t given the opportunity to do that for you and we feel it’s a bit unfair that you posted a review advising others, incorrectly, of the unsuitability of all of our grass pitches. We would have been able to move you had you discussed your concerns with us. We have 8 grass tourer pitches which are level and completely suitable for caravans all with wonderful views over to the West (we have amazing sunsets here)
As you know we experienced overnight rain before your departure which made the grass slippery when you left the pitch. It’s not something that any campsite can avoid but it would have been possible to avoid your struggle which we observed very quickly and helped you with the boards both to ease your worries and to try to stop the damage you were causing. We are very mindful that the next people coming on to our pitches are not greeted by a damaged pitch
Kind regards
Steve (Owner)

Hosts very helpful.
The walks away from the site are picturesque and getting to the wall is a close walk.

A most wonderful site with glorious views to the west of rugged hills and moorland. The sunsets here are fabulous. If you’re lucky and the skies are clear at night, the view of the stars is second to none.
The site is lined by trees and mature shrubs along some sides and dry stone walls on others, making it look very attractive.
Pitches are spread over several different levels going up the hillside and are well spaced-out, some with hedging to separate them, so that the overall impression is of a small and intimate site, when it’s actually bigger than that.
Chickens, ducks and wild rabbits roam freely around the site, giving it a very relaxed feel.
The owners and staff were welcoming and friendly and the little shop contains basic supplies and fresh milk. If you need anything more, the nearby town of Haltwhistle has several shops, including a well-stocked Sainsburys, a number of pubs and at least one fish & chip shop.
The toilet block contained three showers and three loos each for men & women and were kept spotlessly clean several times a day.
The motorhome service point had everything that was needed and was clean and odourless.
There is much to be seen in the area, with Hadrian’s Wall very close and the archaeological sites and museums not far away. A lovely site to stay at and after four nights we were sad that it was time to leave and move on. Highly recommended.

This is a small, well-kept site on several different levels. It's on high ground overall, with good views, but well sheltered. The ground is excellent with some stones. Paths and hardstandings are of coarse ballast. The most level pitches are up at the higher levels, away from the entrance.
Showers x 2 per sex and 3 washing up sinks are excellent with masses of hot water at good pressure. The Covid precautions in the washrooms seem anachronistically cautious but I was pleased with them.
Reception / campsite shop sells basics plus the site's own eggs, local sausages and superlative bacon baps and really good coffee in the mornings. It's open 9 - 11am and outside those times you phone the campsite's mobile. Someone will be with you in about 2 minutes. There's a useful laundry room.
You get to use the dryer until your things are actually dry, rather than n minutes on a timer. There's a full height fridge and an equally huge freezer, and a shelf of exchangeable books, drying racks and a setup for drying your boots. Excellent.
All the cold taps are potable. Black and grey waste are near the reception, along with recycling (glass separate, everything else in with the general waste).
The location is ideal for walking the best bits of Hadrian's Wall - we managed Birdoswald to the west and Housesteads to the east, plus Vindolanda. There's also good cycling and running south of Haltwhistle on the old railway bed.
The white-knuckle bus route means you can do lots of one-way walks. We got as far as Carlisle and Newcastle by car. Hexham is a pleasant market town with a big Waitrose and all the usual high street staples. The Beaumont Hotel's restaurant is excellent - we got a taxi there and back from the site one evening for a treat.
The atmosphere on site was excellent throughout our stay - quiet during the day, and the noise curfew was exceptionally well observed between 10:30pm and 8am. Chickens, rabbits and ducks pootle companionably and fearlessly around; there are swallows in abundance and a colony of starlings and sparrows.
We normally use the excellent Annstead Farm when we visit Northumberland but they've decided not to reopen their facilities because of Covid, so we found ourselves here instead.
There was more than enough interest to compensate for the loss of the seaside and castles and we had a splendid time. Would very happily return.
