We stayed at Orchard Park during the first May Bank Holiday weekend. Upon arrival, the owners were very helpful, and gladly showed us to our pitch, and gave us a brief introduction to the facilities on site. Indeed, their keenness to help was amplified the following day, when I found I had managed to flatten my car battery, lending me both jump leads and also a battery charger that they lent me for the whole day.

We found the site to be clean and well laid out. The toilet block was closed between 10:30 and 12:00 each day, although generally each was only closed for 45 minutes each, and the disabled toilet was opened as a temp toilet for each sex during closure of their particular block. I did find 10:30 a little early to be closing, as I tend to shower after I cooked and washed up, but a change in pattern solved that, and a shower first thing got around that.

Like other reviewers we didn't leave the site often, as it's a great place to go to chill, plus it was the Royal Wedding, so we had our own little party on-site. We did venture out to go see the Big Oak, and Sherwood, as it seemed to be the closest attraction (£3 all day car park charge), and gave us all a nice walk around the forest.

There was a live music performance by the owner on Sunday afternoon that was enjoyed by many members on the site.

Although this is a positive review, and it should be noted that I would return to this site, it would be wrong for me not to mention the problems we had with our pitch which forced us to pack up a day early and depart - although, the owner did offer to repitch us in the touring field we declined his offer, as to decamp, move, put back up the tent, when we were leaving the day after and would have to decamp again was a little off putting. We were on pitch 38, an all grass pitch on the right hand side of the site, about half way along the site. On Sunday afternoon, the grass behind our pitch, and the next two, suddenly became sodden, with smelly water. Bearing in mind that it was extremely dry, to suddenly find puddles of very very smelly 'water' literally inches behind the tent was somewhat offputting. Having had several chats with the owner, and forking the grass to try and get it to drain, the flow did seem to stop, and it didn't seem to be getting worse. However, it was literally two inches behind the tent, and absolutely stunk. The owner informed me that there is a sewer drain that runs down the gulley in the hedge at the back of the pitches that must have broken underground, hence the problem. On the negative, the owner didn't even visit our pitch to look at the issue, although he said (and I believed him), that this had never happened before.

On the positive, on our departure they were both extremely apologetic and very sincere, and refunded both myself and my parents (who also left, as they were on the next pitch and were also affected by the leak), the full bank holiday payment we had given them. He also informed me that they had taken pitch 38 from his bookings, and would get builders in to investigate once the Bank Holiday weekend had completed.

However, I would definitely use this site again, there are several other all grass pitches in the tourer field that I would gladly camp on. It's a lovely site with lovely owners, and a great place to go and chill.

We stayed for 4 nights Sunday to Thursday and it was one of the best sites we have stayed on in the UK. The owners were friendly and helpful and the facilities were clean, spacious and heated morning, noon and night.

We stayed close to the playground out of choice and felt completely at ease letting our 4 and 3 yr olds loose running around the park and the orchard with their little friends. By 8pm they'd all been rounded up which gave you a nice peaceful relaxing evening.

Sherwood Forest was only a 20min drive and was free to park which gave you a cheap day out with little souvenir shops and a tour of the Robin Hood story. With that and a toy bow and arrow the kids were happy.

The reception sold ice creams and chocolate etc and had a little tourism hut with all the brochures for the area as well as some personal recommendations from the site owners themselves. We had a lovely lunch at the Brownlow Arms approximately 4 miles down the road that had swings and slides for the kids, but be warned it closes at 2pm.

The site did say they didn't allow commercial vehicles but there were several there.

We will definitely be going back again, maybe around harvest time as the owners will gladly let you pick your own apples, raspberries etc from the orchard.

Stayed here for just one night at the weekend. Site was almost full, but our pitch at the end of the park was pleasant and secluded. Warm and helpful welcome which included free loan of a hook-up cable as mine wasn't long enough to reach the point.

Attractive site, lots of blossom at this time of year and plenty of birds. We were near the children's play area, which meant a bit of noise, but not a problem; it all settled down before dark. Toilet and shower facilities are adequate and reasonably clean. There's a pleasant little walk through the old apple trees at the end of the site. Tuxford itself is in walking distance (about a mile) and has a decent range of shops and takeaways.

While here we visited the windmill at Tuxford which serves good lunches and snacks and sells their own milled flour and cereals. And in the evening we had a very good, and good value, meal at the Crown at nearby Normanton. All in all an enjoyable brief stay.

We have been to this site twice so far September 2010 and April 2011, and booked again for 1st weekend in September 2011.

We have always had a pleasant reception on arrival, the toilet blocks are always clean and central heated, with 2 showers for the gents(free) and 2 for the ladies(free), they are cleaned every morning and the disabled toilet is available for use whilst these are being cleaned.

Generally the site goes quiet around 10pm, you can order a morning paper from the site shop which is very small but has a few bits and pieces, tuxford is only 5 mins drive away where there are a couple of small supermarkets.

I have given the Site Facilities an 8 only because they could stock the shop a little better or maybe have a larger shop, there is a utility room with 2 sinks for pot washing and 1 for clothes washing. There are 2 washing machines for a small fee of about 50p for 30mins. And a spin dryer not sure of the cost of that. There is also a freezer for ice packs.

As the name of the site suggests they have a substantial orchard which is well maintained with walkways but also left to nature for wildlife, and if you are there September time you can borrow the fruit picker from the office and go and help yourself to apples, pears and damsons again at no charge. My kids always seem to make friends straight away and enjoy a game of hide and seek in the orchard.

There is quit a large wooden climbing frame which the kids of all ages can enjoy the younger ones would need supervision.

There are several electric hook ups for tents although only 4 on the main tent field, each pitch also gets a wooden picnic bench.

The site is approx 5-10 mins from the A1.

You are within 20mins of both Newark and Linolcn both places are worthy of a good day visit.

For me this is an excellent site great for long weekends.

We visited Orchard Park for an overnight, in our new Tourer that we picked up in Lincoln.

Even though it was out of season, we were given an extremely warm reception, and everything shown to us.

We were sited on the drive-on hardstands in the middle of the site, and was perfect for what we wanted. We wanted to spend one night, putting all our new things into the van and getting to grips with how the water / elec / toilets etc worked as we have been tenters for a number of years but this is our first caravan.

Very quiet the night we were there, and only saw 2 other couples on the site. The toilet block was very clean and warm.

I can't comment on anything around the park, as we never moved out of the site itself.

Would recommend to anyone, and would definitely visit again

This is our third visit to Orchard Park - a beautiful, peaceful site, well maintained and spotlessly clean.

A warm welcome awaits you on arrival from the owners before being escorted to your pitch. Most are hard standing with plenty of grass space for your awning.

The toilet block situated in the centre of the site is kept spotlessly clean and great attention to detail is what makes this one of the best toilet blocks we've come across. There may be only two(free)showers each for men and women (set permanently at just the right temperature), but we have never yet had to queue for one. Once inside the shower cubicle, there are 3 hooks, a shelf and a stool for your belongings in the dressing area and a shelf and soap dish actually inside the shower area itself. It is so nice to have plenty of places to hang and set out your things for a change and the water actually stays in the shower part unlike many other campsites where it is often as wet in the dressing area afterwards as it is in the shower itself.

The toilets are also spotless and another nice touch is the couple of hooks available for you to hang things on if you pop in before showering/washing. Mention must be given to homely touch of having piped music throughout the toilet block as well as the new super hand dryer - wow, how powerful is this and your hands are actually dry in seconds! There is also a free hairdryer which works a treat and a set of mirrors at different heights for children and adults - just another careful attention to detail that doesn't go unnoticed, as does the way the toilet door is set to up to close gently on its own accord - no loud bangs at all hours as is usual on other sites.

There is a dog walk with plenty of regularly emptied bins and a playground at the far end of the site. Talking of bins, there are plenty of places for your rubbish and these are regularly emptied by the owner - there is no litter anywhere on this site - it is immaculate, due largely to the regular checks made by John as he peddles round the site on a regular basis.

There is a spotless area for dishwashing, a sink for washing clothes, together with washers, a tumble dryer, a freezer for ice packs (no charge) and washing lines under cover.

The site has a small shop and an a mine of information about things to do in the local area can be found in the little hut next to reception, together with a few books and games that can be borrowed for those rainy days.

My only criticism of the site (and it is only a very minor one,) is the time the toilet/showerblock is closed for cleaning every day. 10.30 am seems a bit early, especially on a weekend. 2pm would be a better choice to me when most people have usually by gone out for the day by then.

The site is situated in an orchard so be prepared for a few wasps. After a trip to nearby Ollerton for some fly spray we were fine!

All in all, this is a great site and we cannot praise it enough. The Owners have obviously carefully thought about what they themselves would want from a site and then gone out of their way to ensure that is what caravanners and tent owners can expect when visiting Orchard Park. We will definitely be back again

Been trying out the new outfit before we go to France in two weeks so we wanted somewhere pretty close to home (Sheffield) with electric hook up.

Spacious pitch in the camping field - the picnic tables are a nice touch. Owners bent over backwards to help - our hook up wouldn't reach so they lent us an extension, recommended take away etc at 8:30 on Friday evening.

Washroom / toilets immaculate - site as a whole maintained to a very high standard. Lovely stroll in the old orchard. Not seen as many butterflies in years.

Good chinese takeaway in Tuxford 5 mins drive away. Chippy and Indian in same block. Good basic shopping in the village - and a big Tesco's at Ollerton another ten minutes drive away.

Pleased to see that they allow groups of well behaved late teens / early twenties use the site. A site suitable for all ages.

Will use them again without doubt.

Arrived 7pm Friday night for a weekend stay. Could have arrived 10am and stayed until Sunday 6pm which is a good value long weekend.

Shown to our pitch and more or less left to it! The last site we stayed on we were given a tour of everything where and how to use and the site 'rules'. This would have been helpful here as we are quite new to this, but then we should have asked I suppose!

The ground where we put the awning was quite hard so be prepared with some tougher pegs as we bent a few. We need to add them to our equipment to be prepared. We are still learning! Our pitch had room for the campervan and awning on shale. Was nice and flat. For those of you with caravans, this would be good and then there was a piece of grass and then more shale for you to park your car, which we didn't use.

Site was very tidy and clean. Pot washing area clean and good supply of hot water. Vegetable preparation sinks separate. Undercover area for hanging your towels etc as washing is not allowed to be hung in view outside of your own caravan.

Washing and drying facilities available although we did not use them. Information hut with leaflets about surrounding area and useful map on wall. A Selection of books and magazines available.

£5 returnable deposit for key in and out of security gate - this was easy to use.

A sunny weekend and quite a few children enjoying the play area. We were nearer to the toilet block and honestly hardly heard the children except when they went past on their bikes. We walked up to see the ' wild orchard' at the far end which only took a few moments to walk through. This is next to the play area where there was a bit of noise from the children having fun on the play area. (I guess if you want a quiet weekend and the sound of children playing is not what you want then the pitches near the play area would not be suitable for you)

There is a bench situated in the small orchard are with a view across the open fields if you would like to take some time there.

Generally a calm feeling at this site. Clean facilities. Only two showers which were spacious and I didn't notice queuing yet the site was full. The facilities were closed daily from 10.30am to 12 noon to be cleaned.

If you look at the photos of the site layout, we were positioned in the central part quite near to the facilities. On the positive side, it wasn't far to walk to fetch water, shower and wash pots. On the negative side, it was not the quietest spot as people were passing our pitch most of the day to use the facilities. Also, we were between two shale roads and so we had the 'noise' from both sides and people tended to cut across our pitch to get to the facilities! If that is nit-picking and wouldn't bother you, then this is not a problem for you. However, if like us, you prefer a little more seclusion, perhaps a pitch further away from the facilities would suit you better.

Tuxford doesn't have much to offer. There was a co-op where we bought some fresh groceries. We found a Waitrose in Newark. Our main aim was to chill out and we didn't venture out much so cannot comment on places to visit.

If you want a pub grub, then you need transport there isn't much very nearby although there seemed to be a good taxi service who were advertised in the info hut and we saw some visitors using on several occasions.

All in all, good for children safe play area, clean facilities, not much to do so good for just chilling, slight traffic noise which my partner noticed although it didn't bother me. If you want privacy and peace and don't mind a walk to the facilities ask for a pitch that isn't located with a gravel path either side of you.

We stayed here with other family members for two nights, 3 tents in total, all had EHU, lovely spacious pitches. Loved this site, staff friendly, facilities clean and tidy.

Dishwashing facilities indoors with washing machine, freezer to freeze icepacks without any charge. Excellent playarea for children, safe enough for my adventurous 2 yr old.

Would definitely return, have to say that we had fabulous weather which always helps with any camping trip.

Great site, stayed here for the weekend with 3 tents, panicked a bit when we saw there was only 2 shower cubicles, as the campsite was full, but this didn't turn out to be a problem, the play area and orchard kept the kids entertained. Even though the campsite was full there was still plenty of room between tents.

The site has a small shop, and on arrival the owner gives you a quick brief on the local area, where the shops and local pubs are etc.

About 10-15 minutes drive away at Olerton is a large Tescos and other stores.

Was a bit shocked at the cost of 2 nights stay, but there was no extra charges for any of the facilities, so it wasn't too much of a worry.

All in all we had a great weekend at the site, we didn't get out and see too much of the local area, as this was really a family get together, but we will be visiting again
