My husband and two children have just returned from a weekend camping at Orchards. We have had a fantastic weekend.
This is a lovely camp site with a friendly couple who were extremely helpful. We arrived and were shown our pitch on a lovely open field. We had stupidly brought an electric hook up from e-bay which was not long enough to reach the electric point but the kind gentlemen had a route round and found us an extension to use (thank god!). We were pleasantly surprised when we were told each pitch had a picnic bench which proved to be a god send, and we could position this where ever we wanted. The pitch size was very big giving enough room for our 5 man tent a gazebo a picnic table and car.
The toilet and shower area were cleaned every day and were spotless. The kids loved the park which is a slide and a trail (not much for younger kids but suited our 4 and 7 year old girls) There is an orchard and a maze which the girls loved playing around. The near by Tuxford is a pleasant village with a co-op and a few other shops. There is also a Tesco in Ollerton which is about a 15 minute drive away.
We really would recommend this site and can’t wait to go back. The only word of warning I have is watch out for the magpies! We stupidly left some food in bags under our table and went for a walk and came back to the magpies eating our crackers and bread!

This site is absolutely wonderful. The owners are so friendly and helpful.
The facilities are excellent and the piped, but quiet, music in the toilets is really comforting if you have to visit during the night.
Everything is clean and tidy and it is such a relaxing place to be. We found it quite by chance when let down by another site, which I will not name, which turned out to be noisy and dirty. Described as being quiet and relaxing we arrived to a beer festival and overflowing toilets.

Visited May Half Term 2009 for 4 nights with our tent which is a Montana 6. Very nice camp site.
Pitches
The pitches are varied. Some grass, some gravel, some a mixture. The one we had was by the play area and was large enough for our estate car, tent and front extension. Most pitches have a power supply.
Prices
We paid £17/night which included electricity supply. Also, no extra charge for gazebo or for front extension.
Facilities
The site has a very small shop which sells some food (chocolate, ice cream) and other small supplies.
The toilet/shower block was generally clean and well stocked with toilet paper. It was closed for cleaning for 1.5 hours in late morning each day.
There is a good outdoor walk at the back of the site and a small kids play area which consists of a small obstacle course with elements such as balance beams, a swinging bridge, tyres etc.
There is also a slide for smaller children.
Local Area
There are countless local attractions with the site being close to the Sherwood Forest visitor centre with forest walks to Major Oak. Also nearby are the Sherwood Forest Farm Park and numerous other attractions such as Sundown Adventure Land for the children.
Other
The campsite clearly caters mainly for caravans with a good deal of 'static' caravans but no mobile homes that we saw.
Customer service very good with the reception/shop open until 19:30 every day.
Dogs are allowed, but must be kept on leads, which was fine for us as we don't have any :)
The only other thing I would add is that you can hear the A1 and the main train line which are both within a mile or so. However, the noise from these is not off-putting as this is an excellent and friendly little site and the noise is not loud enough to take away from the experience.

Spent 2 nights here 8/9 May. When we arrived we were allocated a pitch on the tent field as we had only booked the week before. OH and I sat in the car staring at the driving rain and the gale force winds and were just about to give up and go home when the nice lady owner knocked on the car window to tell us she had received a cancellation so showed us to a sheltered pitch near the orchard. What a fab pitch it was too. The facilities on the site were really good - toilets and showers lovely and clean. Only slight gripe was that the showers were a bit hot and the temperature could not be adjusted.
The owners offered several options of things to do, local pubs, shops etc which was great.
Overall great experience and would definitely go there again, in fact we are already planning for September.

Lovely, clean, friendly site with good sized pitches for tents in the rally field.
A very friendly welcome and very helpful throughout our visit.
Heating on in the toilet/shower block was brilliant. These we're kept very clean and hot water was plentiful.
The kids thought the playground and orchard we're fabulous, as we did, and with the security of the gate at the entrance we were confident to let the children go and play there on their own while we did the washing up.
One draw back, particularly considering the rain we had the week we were there, no washing lines were allowed and although they provide a free spin dryer, not a free tumble dryer. This may be OK if you have space to hang in a caravan / awning, but you can't really hang wet things in a tent.
We would definitely recommend it and hope to pay a return visit in the future.

What a lovely site. We liked the friendly and helpful owners and their suggestions for places to go and things to do. Good 'eco' ethos -- solar panels, wildlife conservation in the Orchard, etc. Lots of helpful posters, notices around. The owner even phoned us after we got home to say he had found something we had left behind then posted it on to us! How's that for customer care! Only one suggestion for an improvement -- an easy access disposal point for motorhome 'grey' waste -- maybe somewhere near the entrance?
Lovely spot -- we'll go again given the chance, thank you!

We really liked this site. The owners were really friendly & helpful - the lady even remembered our name when we left. There is a secure gate with a key access system. The site is lovely, set in an orchard. I would like to see it in Summer when there are leaves on the trees. We had a nice level grass pitch. The showers are nice & clean and there is no charge. They are the press button style but there was plenty of hot water. Piped music in the shower which is a nice touch. There is quite a big laundry and a very spacious washing up area with large sinks & lots of hotwater - and it's inside. There is an outside vegetable preparation area. There are plenty of fresh water taps & Elsan point is adequate. Small summer house / shed with lots of tourist information. Nice children's play area. Small shop selling basic essentials e.G. We'd forgotten cooking oil & there was some in the shop. Tuxford village is less than 1 1/2 miles away and it's an easy walk. We got a village trail map off the internet which was worth it because there are quite a few interesting things to see which you would miss otherwise - including a working windmill which has a cafe and an old prison.

What a great campsite used for first time. Right on my doorstep the toilet block was very clean and showers were great. Staff very helpful and weather great which makes a nice change kids had lots of things to do here. The pitches are very big only one downside some dog owners did not clean up after their dogs.
Tuxford is small but has a good stock of shops and what is great you can have food delivered to your tent by local sandwich shop.We hope to use campsite again soon.

We really liked this place, plenty for the kids to do (aged 10 & 11) with the nature trail and park. The site is secure so you could leave them alone an know they were ok. Showers, toilets etc were always clean, hot water in abundance and never had to wait. The pitch sizes were really generous and there was no rush to get off on departure day, they said we could stay until 6pm and it was great to have that option. We had a day trip out to Lincoln and there is also Newark and Sherwood Forest not too far a drive away, so its a good base and we shall be returning next year.

We have just got home from a wonderful week at Orchard Park and had to write a review. We are a family of 4, with children aged 9 and 4.
From the moment we arrived to book in, we were impressed with the relaxed but efficient way this park was run. We followed the owner on his bike to our pitch, which was large and flat, even the largest of tents shouldn't have any problem with the pitch sizes! We were given a barrier key as we arrived, leaving a deposit which was refunded on departure.
The facilities on this park were spotlessly clean, hot water never ran out (we have all had that elsewhere!) The toilet blocks include 2 showers in both the ladies and gents, and often visits to the loo were timed to coincide with the radio piped in there, to hear the on-the-hour weather forecast! The washing up and laundry facilities are together in an adjoining room; there are only two washing up sinks so they do tend to get busy mornings and evenings.
We were pitched in the tent field were there is loads of room for energetic little ones (and big ones !) to run around, though there are other pitches for tents near the play area (those without kids.Warning. These pitches are very near the play area !). The orchard, with its pathways for little ones to run around in, was a lovely touch and great for our two children.
John and Dorothy couldn't be more helpful, little touches like bringing a photo-copied map to the tent when I happened to mention going out for the day, certainly make for an excellent site. In addition, how many sites have a snack shop in the local village who deliver right to your pitch! They are particularly popular on your first night when you really don't want to start cooking!
Order your papers at the reception, and raid the ice creams if it's as warm as it was for us!
As luck would have it, it happened to be the annual Robin Hood festival at Sherwood Forest during the week we were there, and the site is only 20 minutes away. The festival was fantastic, with loads of things to see and do, most of which were free. A must for any Robin Hood fan! We'd also recommend going to the Tuxford Windmill for a tour, then coffee and cake in their coffee shop. Interesting and delicious!
All we hope for in a camping trip is a good site, good company and good weather!. Thankfully we found all 3 with this site and will definitely return again.
