This is a lovely little campsite in a very quiet area of beautiful Suffolk. The pitches are level but smaller than others that we have visited. We stayed here during a very dry spell so it was a bit dusty where the grass was worn and so might be muddy in the rain. The chickens and rabbits were fun to watch as were the swallows.

The shower block is adequate (ladies - 2 loos and 1 shower) but a bit cramped and during busy times might not be able to cope with demand. We stayed for 2 nights and enjoyed it more on the quieter Sunday night!

The area is ideal for anyone who enjoys peaceful countryside. There are several walks from nearby and a local pub to visit. The highlights for us were Ramsholt church followed by a river walk, and a fascinating visit to Sutton Hoo.

We will definitely use the campsite again to explore the area further!

My wife and I had a really nice time on this campsite. The facilities were good and kept clean, with eggs, milk, logs, firepits, and the use of a fridge freezer.

The owners gave us our choice of site, as they had several fields, all or which were well surrounded by trees and walks, and even an adventure playground for kids (far enough away for us with no kids).

The owners themselves were helpful and polite, and made us feel very welcome. The local area is beautiful, and would recommend a trip to the local pub, the Sorrel Horse, and nearest town, Woodbridge.

You should have a very relaxing time.

An excellent campsite. Clean toilets, quiet campsite, plenty of friendly animals. The owners were very helpful and pleasant- they sell eggs, chutneys and milk.

A nice area- good pub 5 minutes away, country walks, near the river/sea for fishing and crabbing.

Woodbridge nearby for shopping and any non-vegetarians should visit five winds farm butchers. We also walked to the ramsholt arms and the landlord gave us a lift back to the campsite! lots of other nice local attractions.

Would definitely go again.

Stayed at this beautiful site Friday - Tuesday.

It was so quiet, and full of wildlife. The free roaming chickens kept me amused for hours!

The site is spread over three fields, we were in the far field, with some camper vans.

The toilet/ shower block has two toilets and one shower, in both the male & female toilets.

On the Friday / Saturday the site was full but I only had to queue for the shower for about 5 minutes. All toilets / washing up area are kept really clean.

Firepits can be hired from the site, for a small fee (we took our own, so unsure of cost) and logs can also be purchased.

There is a large children's play area, away from the campsite, but as we left the kids at home, we didn't go near it!

Fresh eggs can be purchased from reception, and they taste delicious.

Word of warning about the nearest pub - the Sorrel Horse - it's closed on a Monday - all day!

Can recommend the Kwan Thai restaurant & the Golden Panda Chinese in nearby Woodbridge, lovely food, at reasonable prices.

Will definitely be going back to this site.

Absolutely beautiful little site, so peaceful, very nicely kept and the owners are exceptionally friendly! Loved the chickens roaming around, and the whole place just has the feel of total peace and relaxation!

Very reasonably priced and no silly rules regarding arrival and departure times, which I liked, could have stayed there all day sunday if we wanted to.

There is only one shower per sex but it wasn't a problem for us, and on busy weekends you just have to plan!

Lovely little pub just down the road in the village too!

Will definitely visit the site again.

St Margarets is a fabulous campsite. This is the second time we have stayed here for the Easter break and would recommend it to anyone.

The owners are always friendly and helpful, going out of their way to assist. Shottisham is a beautiful, peaceful part of Suffolk with many surrounding walks and nearby places of interest.

The Sorrel Horse, just in the village is a great pub and there are others too within walking distance.

The campsite itself is laid out sensibly and has a nice, clean toilet / shower / washing-up block. We never queued for any of these utilities, but chose our timing carefully as there is only one shower per gender.

We pitched in the eastern camping field and enjoyed glorious sunrises. As an added bonus, this year there are fires available too, but at a price.

All in all one of our favourite sites and we look forward to returning.

Me and my family have and have had a caravan on this site for the past six and a half years. We have enjoyed it thoroughly throughout.

Situated approximately 300 yards from the campsite is a lovely and very much welcoming pub, they serve delicious food, at a good price.

We have encountered many beautiful beaches and exquisite scenery and have caught sight of a variety of wildlife from seals in the coastal harbours to adders in luscious heaths.

I personally recommend bawdsey beach for its sandy, beautiful stretch of coast line not forgetting the jetty which is a haven for crabbing and recommended for its ferry trips which destines to a stony coastline opposite this warm, fascinating beach.

This campsite is also is gifted with a elegant flock of chickens which roam the campsite with their calm natures creating a lovely country side atmosphere.

I highly recommend this campsite to all families and over joyed to exclaim it is an extremely pleasant, welcoming campsite.

The campsite is very clean and tidy and the owners very helpful and friendly, we shall return again, when better weather returns. The weather was very wet, but the site is free draining so it wasn't a problem.

There are many interesting places to visit and the site is well placed for most of these. It is dog-friendly with good walks from the site, and also the appropriate bin provided, although we did notice some people were obviously not using it.

It was a delight to see the chickens running loose, and they did provide us with delicious eggs for breakfast.

We visited the Sorrel Horse Pub walking distance from the site, and the food was fantastic, and very reasonably priced, a lovely old thatched pub with friendly staff.

A place certainly to visit while staying at St Margarets, but not so the Ramsholt Arms. Good views over the Deben, pity the food didn't measure up to the views. The portions were huge, vegetables over-cooked and generally extremely disappointing.

A visit certainly not to be repeated.

Arrived mid afternoon and was offered a choice of pitches by friendly staff, all were very good but we chose the large field as it seemed to offer more room for us to spread out. We stayed 3 nights 2 adults + 2 children. We had some heavy-ish rain on the second day but as the site is well draining this was not a problem.

The toilet / Shower block was adequate for us but I could see there is a need for an extra shower for each sex for the morning rush but plenty of quiet times throughout the day and seemed to be kept clean.

Fridge & freezer available which was very helpful as we were not on EHU. Chickens running around which the kids loved, the adjacent play ground/field was good but a little weedy with patches of nettles close to the play equipment.

Lots of nice walks from the site to tire the kids out.

Over all we very much liked this site and will be returning, it’s not going to be every ones cup of tea but if you want somewhere to chill out relax in a very beautiful rural setting this site is perfect

Just returned from a week at this lovely site. As mentioned in previous reviews the owners are very nice and extremely laid back. We didn't have much of a problem with the chickens outside the tent as we had our dog with us and he kept them at bay. It only became a problem when other peoples kids fed them outside our tent.

The showers are limited but were clean enough and we tended to use them late afternoon when the water was always piping hot. The same applies to the washing up. The kids play area was a godsend for us but on our last day they did come back to us and say someone had broken a lot of the equipment since the day before. Such a shame.

I would advise you buy all your groceries etc in one go at Woodbridge as the local shops (still a few miles away) were very limited. I can recommend the excellent butchers just by the station at Melton and the fish & chip shop also in Melton.

The Sorrell Horse pub is a stroll through the campsite by the church. Great if you want a drink but the food wasn't fantastic, you're much better off visiting the Ramsholt Arms at Ramsholt Quay. Excellent food, large portions, not too expensive and great scenery.

Bawdsley Quay is also worth a visit as is Sutton Hoo which the kids loved. If you want a day at the beach go to Southwold. Would recommend this site and use it again if we return to Suffolk.
