We have just returned from 5 nights at this site, booked after considering various reviews on Google.
The site was very quiet, but the showers were often freezing cold in the morning, as the boiler couldn't cope with the demand for water and this also meant that the outdoor washing up facilities were also cold. There was only one shower for each sex but to be honest, they were far from clean in the morning unless you got in their just after the cleaner had visited.
This site needs more showers and to clean them more often during holiday times - every morning at 7.30am they were nothing short of filthy. Also, there was no heating which is OK in the summer, but I would imagine could be freezing in March and April.
Recycling facilities could be improved - the glass bins were filled quickly.
There was a play park nearby - plenty to keep the kids occupied. There was also a very nice church next door.
The site has a lot of free-range chickens roaming around. This wasn't a problem, until they decided to foul outside your awning - in which case you may get shoes covered in the mess and it stank. That only happened to us one day, but when it did, we had to clean the kids shoes and that was a pain.
Overall the site was clean and the owners very friendly. The 11pm no noise rule was often observed at 10pm and there was the use of a fridge in the owners house. The local pub (Sorrell Horse Inn) looked very nice and did some good offers on food and Real Ale on Sunday for £2.25 a pint.
There was also a small beach and quay about 3 miles away at Bawdsey which the kids loved and which has a foot ferry to Old Felixstowe. The location was easy to get too, quiet, and peaceful. However, the owners need to invest in a better shower block, a new boiler and do something about the blasted chickens fouling everywhere.
For £20 a night I expected better washing facilities but it didn't put me off and I would visit again.

Stayed here the week after the 'big do' as mentioned in a previous post, James was still trying to get on top of things but still nothing was too much trouble, Claire is one of the friendliest people we have ever met & we even got her to stroke the dog even though, in her words, 'they eat people', after explaining she is going to put up a sign saying Lions must be kept on a lead.
Joking apart they are the two most hard working site owners we have ever come across.
The site is a simple layout with EHU in all 3 fields & a plan to install more soon.
The facilities are spotless & although there is only one shower if you are just chilling out go when its quiet.
There are also pot washing sinks under cover with hot water.
Theres no shop on site & the nearest mini market is 5 minutes in a car but there are plans to open one in the near future as there used to be one in the past.
When we arrived it looked like a desert due to the lack of rain but after a downpour one night we came out to find all the brown had turned green & the whole place then looked a well cared for grassy site, which it is.
Fresh eggs can be bought from the house from the chickens which roam around the site clearing up. They are all sizes & colours too but as fresh as you can get them. One thing worth noting, James told me they will eat anything food wise but don't give them bread as it swells & can kill them.
There is a pub that does food 100 yds away & is very friendly, the food is good but not a massive choice but I personally found better pubs for the beer in the surrounding villages.
The site owns a very large field at the back of one of the fields & this is for walking dogs round, they have to be kept on lead because of the livestock wandering around but further back is a large woods where you can let them run.
Every where is a drive for visiting but we chose this site for the different sea fishing venues & it didn't disappoint, one word though, there is bait available from a clay shooting supplier at Melton but it wasn't the best so beware.
Two of the three fields have trees surrounding them to keep off the worst of the wind if it blows up but we didn't have any problem while we were there even though it was blowing a gale on the coast one day.
All in all a very laid back relaxing site with 2 very nice people in charge, not the greatest location for sight seeing ( go to Orford Castle & use the audio guide, brilliant) but just what you want to lay back & relax, this is one site we will be returning to.

We are a family of 5 and spent 4 nights camping here. We were looking for a small, family friendly site and this did not disappoint. The owners are very friendly and keen to make the place a success. We were allocated the small tent field, by the chickens and told roughly where to pitch. This relaxed approach was fine until our last day when 3 two man tents were replaced by 3 eight man tents. Although all the campers were friendly and quiet, the field felt very overcrowded.
There is a playground accessible from the back of the campsite and a path that leads to a lovely pub with decent grub.
The toilet facilities are basic with one shower but were clean and we always had hot water and did not have to wait, apart from our last day.
There is another larger camping field but this felt very exposed in the high winds we experienced.
Although you may have to drive there is lots to do, Sutton Hoo, Orford Ness, Coastal towns and the kids loved Africa Alive. Nearest supplies are at Woodbridge which is a very nice little town.
A note about the chickens, they do run about the place, you either love them or hate them. They help create the rural experience but will wake you early and help themselves to your food.
Overall a lovely site and we would return.

If you like your sites quiet and rural, this might be of interest to you. If you like the party scene or to play your music loud you'll be better off elsewhere (ideally on an island somewhere on you're own) In that respect, I don't recall seeing any 'Rules' as such, but it was pretty well silent after 10:00 pm.
St Margaret's is run by James and Claire, two very nice and super helpful people; they provide a very laid back approach, around but not intrusive. On a personal note, this is the end of their first year running this site - so, keep up the good work you're doing a great job!
The facilities are fairly basic (only one shower for each gender) but are kept clean and no overflowing bins even though the site was quite full. The owners helpfully provide a fridge freezer, we don't do EHU so for us the freezer could do with being a bit larger to keep the ice blocks going for our Igloo. Claire sells fresh eggs for the few dozen or so, rare breed chickens that freely roam the site and surrounding woodland. Home made jams and chutneys are also available.
Locally, there's a nice country pub a short stroll away. We met some amazingly friendly people and noticed what seemed like fairly decent food being served (We did not try it but it did look good)
In summary, this site will not suit everyone, it's very rural, very quiet and fairly basic. However it's for those very reasons that it suited us perfectly.

This is a nice looking site, small and quite in a pretty village with a good pub which we used a couple of times. The showers and toilet are kept clean and were never too busy.
This site would suit families and couples alike as there is a playground near by to stop the kids annoying the neighbours.
The area has a good range of places to visit,Sutton Hoo, Bawdsey Quay and Suffolk Punch Horse Colony are a few that we tried

We have just had 5 lovely days at this site. I would just echo the positive things others have said. However our last day was disturbed by the erection of a huge marquee in our field for a big 'do' at the weekend. I am just glad we wont be there!
My only criticism, and it is a minor thing really, is that the site really does need more showers. Two for the men I would consider a minimum. The shower and toilets though were never less than immaculate. Can't speak for the ladies!
I would recommend this site if you like a quiet holiday (except this weekend),

Stayed for the weekend 2 adults, wow what a lovely peaceful site ! Was greeted on arrival and was shown various pitches by the very friendly owners. Site was very level pitches spacious, with various walks, showers spotless and cleaned regularly daily. Full use of a fridge freezer at the back of the owners house.
The owners have 32 free range chickens roaming around the site which we were thought added to the feel of the site, tried the free range eggs from the hens lovely :)
There is a play area just outside the site, and a playing field.
The village its situated in is beautiful. Tried the local pub the sorrell horse inn, lovely friendly staff, and the owners made us feel welcome after 11pm
All in all we had a lovely stay, and didn't want too leave, the owners were not in a hurry to push us off the site and said we could have stayed all day if we wished :)
We stayed on our own as couple, for some quiet time, we will be returning again very soon with our children

Nice quiet site in very picturesque village. Separate fields for tents and caravans. Toilet/shower block better than it used to be though not luxury.
All facilities easy to find. Reception office unmanned for most of our stay but met friendly owner eventually.
Cheeky chickens free ranging about. Very laid back. Nice. Would visit again any time.
Pub just round the corner but didn't visit it. Others said it is good.

Excellent Family campsite. Spent 3 nights here durin half term with partner and 3 children. Owners are very helpful.
The facilities are quite basic but toilets and showers all clean and did not have to queue, but would guess that not always the case as there is only one shower and two toilets for each sex.
There is plenty of space on the site for the kids to play, a nearby playground and walks from the site. We also had 2 dos which were no problem once they got used to all the chickens.
The area is good for activities.
Will definitely be returning.

This was our first night camping this year and it was a last minute decision as the sun was shinning! 2 adults 2 children 4yrs & 7yrs What a fantastic site! We were greeted on arrival by very friendly owners & shown around then given the choice where we would like to pitch. The site seemed quite busy although there is 3 separate fields to choose from but still peaceful just birds singing & everyone was friendly. Our kids loved it there were plenty of room for them to play and they could get to the park safely without going near any roads.
The Sorrel Horse pub is a short walk past the church or you can go along the road which are very quiet as it is just a little village we decided to eat at the pub & am afraid to say was very disappointing the food was not great, very very small portions for very expensive price which left us all hungry & with a bad taste in our mouths! Would not recommend going there to eat. But there is no where else to eat unless you want to drive a few miles up the road.
The camp site is great if you don't want lots of facilities which was great for us just 1 small toilet & shower block which was clean although very basic which was plenty for the site no one was having to queue & wait. The location of site & everything about the site we loved & will definitely go again.
