 The site has really outgrown the facilities now and with no hope of an upgrade in the near future, we think we will be giving it a miss. Sad really, as it was one of our fave places.
Unfortunately, some of the people that camp there are not as bothered as others about disposing their rubbish properly. On our last visit, the beaches and sand dunes which were once a beautiful part of Shell Island and a safe place to let our children play were littered with glass bottles and old rusty beer cans.
You can't book which can cause lots of frustration when the 'Site Full' signs go up, especially when your journey has been a long one. Keep away from school hols and Bank hols and all will be fine, otherwise you're taking a chance.
Having said that, the island is beautiful and you can camp almost on the beach. There is a bird sanctuary, pub, shop and laundry facilities all on the site.
