August 2005 A friend and I stayed on this site in August 2005 together with six children between us. The site is clean, the staff friendly and the facilities adequate, though the camping toilet block is small (3 loos, 3 showers) and certainly felt crowded if one family were already using it. We read the reviews on this site before hand and camped on the terrace rather than the open field at the top and had no problems with wind, even though we were there during wet and windy weather.
However we wish we had taken more notice of the reviews relating to the noise problem on this site. It is partly the combined effect - the road noise, the aircraft (you can hear the undercarriage being lowered!), the goods trains, the sirens from the nearby hospital. At one stage in the night it felt like being part of a bizarre transport project and we were waiting for the noise of a boat! Certainly if you are a light sleeper or have children who will be woken by noise, it is not the site for you. We bought ear plugs for all on our second night and found the rain a relief - in that it drowned out other noise!
If you are in the area though, there is an excellent bookshop on the road to Ashbourne, about 3 miles down the road - big as a barn, with freshly brewed cheap coffee, little play area for the children and lots of bargain books! A great refuge from wet weather!

August 2005 My wife, 8 year old daughter and I visited Lime Tree in August, and managed, by chance, to pick a few days of glorius sunshine, between a period of heavy rain. Our first impression of the campsite was very good; it certainly looks beautiful and well laid out. The staff are all dressed in uniform T-shirts and are very polite and welcoming. We had pre-booked, so we paid our three nights fee, and were told to pitch where we liked within the tent area. There are two parts to the tent site really: the first being a very picturesque area with little pitches dotted along the pathways - very nice but to close together for our liking; we like a bit of privacy and space. The larger tent field is located at the top of the campsite and is on a moderate slope. However, I have noticed this brought up in a couple of reviews and have to say that, at the end of the day, you are in the PEAK district and it is difficult to find flat ground anywhere. If you pitch your tent correctly and grab a spot near the top of the hill, it's not too bad at all. The views are beautiful, but beware in windy seasons because I'd imagine that the wind could be very strong up there. The on-site shop was quite useful, but there is a Morrisons about 10 mins away so you are not forced to pay the prices. The childrens play area was brilliant, and my daughter just disapeared there for hours when we werent out walking. She made plenty of friends immediately, and really enjoyed it. My only gripe was the fact that the campsite is directly below the Manchester Airport flight path. It is a real shame because the camp is A star in all other factors. I would be tempted to go back to this campsite because of the childrens park, but I'd have to say that the regular racket from overhead aircraft would make me try somewhere else. It kills me to say that because it is a lovely, well-presented site, with helpful and polite staff, but it is the truth.

August 2005 Just come back from 5 nights at the Lime Tree Park site. The site was very well kept, and the wardens were very friendly. The toilet & wash facilities were always clean, even though the site was busy. We were camping on the EHU section of the site and the toilet block on that section has a disabled toilet/washroom which also doubled up as a family bathroom (very useful as my husband camped on his own with our son & daughter for 2 nights.)
There are a couple of short but steep hills on the site and most of the pitches are at the top of these so the site might not be suitable if mobility is a problem (there is a small camping section near to the entrance of the site without any climb but near the road and the views aren't as nice as on the higher bits of the site)
Site shop little on the pricey side but OK for emergencies and Morrisons is a couple of minutes drive away. All in all we liked this site and would definitely return.

August 2005 We just spend the weekend at this site (2 nights). Its a very nice site, easy to find and well located, and well priced.
The site is clean, and well looked after. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Its a very quite site, even though there were children on site.
The number of spaces is limited, so book early. But this means that its not over crowded, and thus we did not notice any queues for the showers and toilets.
The shower block was clean and hot water was always available.
A slight negative point: The main field for tents is slightly sloped, so if you want a flat pitch, arrive as early as you can.
If I am ever in this area again, i will return to this site, well worth the AA rating.

June 2005 Just spent another weekend at this lovely site, an electric pitch up at the top with the caravans. We returned as there is everything we need, spotlessly clean toilets and showers, no litter anywhere, friendly staff and fantastic location. Very quiet in the evenings, small shop which stocks all you need, and close enough to Buxton to visit the Pavilion Gardens and Poole's Country Park. We were there at the same time as Glastonbury flooded, but the grass didn't even puddle (mind you it's on the top of quite a fierce hill). We will definitely return to this site.

July 2005 Visited 3 nights - July 7,8,and 9th This is a very nice campsite; the facilities are good and clean, free showers and plenty of hot water. The play area is small, but our little boy had a lot of fun there. But, and it's a big BUT: The site is situated on the side of a valley with a small unclassified road at the bottom that runs between one side of Buxton and a large Morrisons store. This road is very very noisy. The valley also has the effect of funneling the noise from the main road (the A515?) at the top of this smaller road. So, going to sleep and waking up (even early in the morning) you can certainly hear the traffic which we and our friends found quite annoying. Perhaps some townies may heve become immune to this, but these townies haven't. Also I found the airplane noise, which went on quite late into the night, quite disturbing. Perhaps charter flights from Manchester Airport which flew right overhead and quite low . Will we go back? Probably not - peace and quiet, and a good night's sleep, are a must for us.
One further point: the shop hours are variable; so if you have your ice blocks frozen (30p each in the shop freezer) make sure you find out what time the shop is shutting - as this varies daily as far as we could tell - or you might be left without and curdled milk for breakfast - as we were! I raised this point quite forcefully with 'the management' and was told they will endeavour in future to inform campers of the shop opening hours.

July 2005 This is a very well maintained site with a good shower block. On arrival, the warden showed us to our plot (tent with ehu) which was fairly level and ensured we had everything we needed. It is very near to Buxton and has lovely views.
The only criticism of the site is that there were too many people crammed in. There was also a large party of adults and kids in 8 tents in the centre of the ehu site, who were extremely noisy. After someone complained to the warden, the adults waited until the warden's rounds were finished and kicked up the noise until 1am. This spoiled an otherwise great weekend.

June 2005 Very nice site, they managed to squeeze us onto the late arrivals area, with very little notice. The road could be noisy if you aren't used to it, but the people on the electric hook up area said the train woke them up (so it was swings and roundabouts really!)
Very handy for Morrisons and Buxton centre. Showers could have been cleaner but would definitely visit again.

May 2005 This campsite is lovely. The washroom / toilet facilities are the best Ive seen, BUT please be warned!! Buxton is the highest peak in England. With high peaks comes high winds. The tent pitches are located at the very top of the campsite. We have a large 9-man tent & couldnt put it up for the high winds. When we did put it up the wind was powerful enough to break the internal support poles, thus collapsing the tent onto perimeter surrounding barb-wire fencing, causing further damage to the tent. Although we were only there 1hr, our money wasnt refunded because of company policy, although we have been credited for another stay there. Please be aware when taking large tents to this very open camping field.

May 2005 Lovely site, very tidy. Pleasant, friendly and helpful staff. Excellent facilities, pool table and t.v. room (which came in very useful during an hour long thunder storm) Can be windy for tents as site is high up. Nice secluded, well divided areas leading up to a large open field, it feels quite steep and open to the elements there. Picnic tables dotted around, friendly warden checks site regularly. security locks with access codes on toilets and showers. although access to showers is via steep steps and steep road so not easy for small children or disabled to access.
close to Buxton, 5 min drive. 2 min drive to morrisons supermarket. great for getting fresh food or simply going to the cafe there for breakfast if you can't face cooking. on site shop sells basics, a bit pricey though, especially sweets and chocolates. hot drinks available from the shop for 60p. well drained site but after rain road surfaces on the hill can get very slippy underfoot. gets busy on bank holiday weekends so book well in advance. a deposit is required and full amount to be settled on arrival. overall a good place, would go there again.
