Lickpenny is a gem.
The site is set on a hillside and looks out over the Derbyshire Dales - with magnificent sunsets.
The pitches are very generous and (mostly) very level.
There is an entry barrier with key code access.
The facilities are excellent. They are spotlessly clean and provide hot water, soap, hand driers, toilet rolls and are heated. In the block furthest from reception there is a cubicle with wc and handbasin in both the ladies and gents.
Waste disposal, water taps and recycling facilities are positioned at regular intervals and the 'super' pitches have their own water supply and drains.
TV reception was reasonably good but the phone signal was hit and miss. Wifi is charged.
The site is only a five minute drive from Matlock and the garden centre, a couple of hundred yards away, has an excellent coffee shop and deli. The campsite provides a 10% discount voucher as well as a voucher for a free cup of coffee or tea.
The campsite cannot really be faulted - would highly recommend.

Allthough we are newbys
Only had (dolly)for8 weeks we have managed to get away for 6weekends. We have stayed at some really excellent sites. Some not quite so good but on the whole passable. Lickpenny is by far the best, really well set out and private pitches, facility's top class spotlessly clean constant hot water and heated shower blocks. All staff we met. Pleasant and polite plus really helpfully eg when we asked for advice on public footpaths were to walk they printed off all local walks. All in all a really top site.

We stayed at this site with my father in law, so they gave us two pitches together. It is a lovely spacious and well laid out site. There is a good play area and grass area for kids. The pitches were very spacious and quite level, the hardstanding was quite hard and a suitable hammer is required for pegging out awning.
When booking we asked for pitches with views and they said that if we weren't happy with what we were allocated we could ask to be moved, which was a good gesture. The views were good but, could of been stunning if the hedges were trimmed ! This seemed to be the same across the site.
The toilet and shower block we used was clean and warm and the water was a always hot. The shop had essentials and there was an area for local info.
The site is well located to visit most of the Peak District with Matlock, Bakewell and Buxton with in easy reach and Carsington Water is a must place to visit.
We will definitely be going back to this area and will consider this site when looking.

Just spent 2 nights at Lickpenny Touring site, and never been so eager to leave somewhere!
We phoned to make our booking only 2 days before going, because we have a van as our main vehicle, due to the need of transporting a mobility scooter, and wanted to enquire whether we would be allowed to take it on site. (Many sites will not allow vans) & was initially told that we would have to park it in the car park at the top of the park, and then realising this wasn’t really an option as we needed to store the scooter in it at night, was told it would be ok to park it on our pitch.
We requested a deluxe pitch due to mobility issues, and was informed that yes there was availability. This was duly booked and paid for.
On arrival to site we were directed to our pitch, though this was further into the site than we’d anticipated, having looked at an online plan of the site, but it was not in any way deluxe, other sites would class this as a serviced pitch. It was a large pitch with concrete base covered in cheap grey coloured “pea gravel”. Not ideal when wearing sandals, as every step taken, resulted in a shoe full of the stuff, very uncomfortable! The services consisted of Electric Hook Up, water stand pipe and grey water drainage, but no TV aerial points or chemical waste disposal which other sites we’ve been on, have offered, and cost less. The pitches were separated by 6 foot high laurel hedges, a bit too high in my opinion, especially as this was the only view from the side windows of the caravan. Any other scenic views we were hoping for were nonexistent, the only other thing we could see were trees, trees and more trees! (We also noticed at least 4 other vans on site, and all parked next to caravans, so think that maybe the staff need to be made aware of the van rules, if any, rather than misinforming potential patrons)!
We didn’t use any of the toilets or showers on site, because they were further away from our pitch than anticipated, so we used our onboard facilities instead, and therefore cannot comment on the cleanliness etc of the site ones. Although we did use the chemical disposal point, this was just an old fashioned sewage pipe encased in concrete with only a hose pipe to flush the waste away, and a very heavy lid over the top that had to be lifted and hooked back before use. No nice modern chemical disposal rooms with hand washing amenities, on this site, ! Again considering what they are charging, maybe time for an update of these facilities.
The roads on site also need resurfacing, they are very uneven with potholes, and very dangerous to walk on especially at night time if you don’t have a torch, due to limited lighting on the site.
As for the site shop, I recommend that you make sure you have everything you’re likely to need before you arrive, because the stock is extremely restricted
We only dealt with reception/shop staff and these all appeared friendly and polite, even if they weren’t too sure on site rules
The one positive of staying on this site, that we found was the mobile and wi-fi reception were brilliant, (though I guess that is actually nothing to do with the site, but the location of it)!Other than that if you have children the play area, looked pretty good with plenty of space for children to run about climb and play.
So would we return or recommend this site? DEFINITELY NOT, though we would like to visit the area again, hopefully next time, we’ll find a site that does actually offer scenic views, and is a bit more updated.

Stayed here for a week in August. We had selected the deluxe pitches at the top of the site which were spacious and had privacy hedges but unfortunately the trees were too tall to enjoy the views we had read about in previous reviews. One big drawback to the pitches was the incredibly hard ground! I mean HARD!. We're used to hardstanding and regularly use rock pegs but under a light dusting of shingle was basically tarmac!. The blisters my husband end up with were huge. A trusty mallet would not suffice and we had to resort to a claw hammer. And we needed to peg out due to blustery weather.
Appears to be large number of seasonal pitches especially near to Reception area.
Toilet/shower blocks were always clean. Free hairdyers was a welcome touch. Good wash up and laundry room facilities.
Small shop with tourist leaflets etc and paper ordering if required.
Excellent location for visiting local area and we also ventured to Alton Towers (about 50 mins).
Overall a very peaceful site with generous sized pitches. We would revist if in the area.

What a great friendly site, wardens couldn't be more friendly facilities are great toilet blocks very clean and usable, children's play area great if you have children, we chose the deluxe area mainly for the views and were slightly disappointed as many of the trees are overgrown and need trimming that said the dog walk area is excellent but owners please pick up after your dogs as a few didn't bother, we even came across a baby hedgehog there. There are many lovely areas to visit nearby and we will def be retuning soon.

Lovely site.
If you have young children, best to stay in the area over looking the playground. The kids get freedom. But you can keep an eye on them from your pitch!
If you don't have kids with you, I guess if you are parked away from the playground, it would be peaceful.
Lovely site, we liked the fact that the pitches were not too small, and lots of areas which were free of pitches altogether.
We hope to go back next year.

Stayed at this site for 4 nights. Clean and friendly throughout. Two lovely garden centres within minutes of the entrance of this site. Excellent pub called the tavern at tansley about a mile from the site. We only used that one for the convenience so can't speak of any others. Ideally placed were we stayed for Matlock (spot on for you motor bike guys) and for the none bikers there's always Abraham heights, we did it and were in our 60s. The town of bakewell isn't far either, I loved it, where there is plenty of shopping, cafés, pubs etc. A nice coffee and piece of traditional Bakewell tart. Àhard standing pitch we had at site so don't forget the rock pegs and I mean hard standing. Overall great time we had, lots to do, lovely views from our caravan by the way. Incidentally this was our second visit to lick penny whilst we've been touring. Thankyou to the helpful and friendly staff. Great area I forgot to add for children. This area (park opposite the tourers) seems to be especially for family's where they can sit and relax and watch their children playing safely in front of their eyes which I thought was very impressive. Would recommend this site and would visit again if we need to be in the area. Thank you to lick penny caravan park.

What a lovely site this is, well laid out, well cared for and with very generous pitches. We chose this site because we had a nearly 2 year old grandchild with us. Plenty of space for the kids of all ages to let off steam. The toilets/shower blocks are in excellent order and very well looked after. The staff were very helpful and full of advice if you needed them. Small shop on site which also supplies information leaflets. A couple of bars/Restaurants in Tansley which is a short drive away. Matlock and Matlock Bath are both quite close to get to if you like to get out and about, Bakewell is a little further. All in all an excellent site all round and will definitely return in the future.
