Needed a site near to home to try out our first ever Caravan (always been tenters before) and this site was ideal.
The staff were very helpful and friendly. The facilities were spotless. The site is in an amazing location with great views. They kindly put us right near the children's play park so they could safely play for ages and we could still keep an eye from 'van.
The shop isn't great but useful for emergencies.
If you follow the dog walk it takes you through a lovely woodland area to the Garden Centre nearby which was lovely to browse around, get an ice cream and if you want to you can stop and have a cream tea.
On sunday the massive car boot is just down the road.
Only about 3 miles is Matlock which we highly recommend and further on is either Matlock Bath or Bakewell. There is a huge Sainsbury's in Matlock.
Overall, this is worth visiting.

We have just had the most wonderful weekend at lickpenny farm.
This is one of the best sites we have ever visited.
The pitches are massive, the facilities are great, everywhere is clean & well looked after, the staff are helpful and informative, the children loved it, plenty of room for them to run around and in a safe environment.
I cannot praise this site high enough, we will definitely be back very soon.
Would and will be recommending this site.

We have just returned from a fantastic week at Lickpenny. The facilities are fantastic - Heated Toilet blocks, secure entry/exit and the pitches are absolutely huge.
The site was well spaced out and has a good dog walk. Children have a decent play and grass area to play in.
Close to Matlock and Matlock Bath, however you will need a car or use public transport as the only thing in walking distance is a huge Garden Centre. Cannot wait to return

Had a couple of days stop off at this site on way over to Sherwood Forest and really glad we did. It is a very clean and well spaced out site so you seem to have lots of room around you which also feels very private.
This was our first time out with the caravan so the way the site was laid out on terraced areas suited us really well. Water and chemical waste disposal was very close and the toilet and shower facilities were also very good. Push button showers like most places seem to be but no bother.
A couple of Garden Centres close by and a couple of pubs down the road on way into Matlock. The first pub, The Tavern (i think) was not dog friendly which seemed unusual but the other pub slightly lower down that was more like a Bistro Pub (really great food and good prices) welcomed the dog with open arms, this is well worth a visit.
Turn left out of the site entrance on a sunday and walk 5 minutes down the road to a large market that is held in the fields (weather permitting). The cost is £1. 00 for entry fee.
Would definitely have a stop over her again in the future.

I really enjoyed Lickpenny, They had enough facilities for everyone, showers, toilets, pot washing room, they even have a children's play area and a shop on site.
Matlock, chatsworth House, Chesterfield, Bakewell are not far from the site, which have a range of shops, pubs & restaurants. There is also a car boot sale across the road from Lickpenny on a Sunday morning.
It can be a bit pricey if you have a few children as I have 3 & my eldest is 16 so he was an extra fiver & my other 2 was an extra £2:50 each but I think the facilities & the cleanliness make up for it.

Myself, the hubby and Murphy the dog stayed here in 2012 in May and it was a lovely site, great views, excellent pitches and clean warm shower blocks
Situated just outside Matlock, you will find it a 5 minute drive away to the main town where you can find supermarkets, and lots of the usual local amenities, go a little further and you'll reach Matlock Bath, it's a lovely town with lots of nice eateries and a visit to the Heights of Abraham is well worth it, views from the cable car journey up there are fantastic.
Back at the park, there isn't many facilities, a small shop, kids play area, lovely shower block as mentioned, and a visiting hot food van on the Saturday evening when we were there.
Will probably return again if in the area, and highly recommended for all ages.

Tried this site as is wasn't far to travel for our second outing with our caravan. Very peaceful site with excellent facilities. The heated shower/toilet block was much appreciated as the weather was not kind to us. Plenty of space for Caravan, awning and large car. There is a pub within walking distance although no proper footpath so be careful, had a good meal at the tavern and called in the nursery just round the corner from the site, lovely place with usual plants and farm produce to buy and a nice cafe. Large market and car boot sunday morning which we passed on leaving.
Will be back.

I wish all sites had the same facilities, and standards, pitch area are mostly hard standing from what I could see, so there for ensure you have enough rock pegs, very large in area, with a few bushes giving a bit of privacy. Play area was great for the kids, not been a after thought and crammed in like some sites we have been to. Large area to play ball games with no danger of annoying other campers. Toilet block were the best we have used in the 5 years caravaning, very well maintained, cleaned, modern, and the showers were large enough to to take the kids in with you and not struggle to dry and dress them. Matlock is only 3 to 4 miles away so great for the attractions there. Large car boot in the next field across the main road most Sundays I think, veg, meat stalls, Jnt 28 is the way to go well sign posted of the main road.

We have just spent the bank holiday weekend here at lickpenny, wife 8 year old son and myself.
Having read a lot of reviews about this site we was sure it would be a good site and it was.
Son had somewhere to play everything was clean and tidy, all in all nothing to complain about great site.
Pitch size for us was enormous plenty of room for van awning and car, we were next to the park which was ideal for us. Having said that the play area was 200meters away with a couple of trees separating our outfit and any stray balls that might come our way. There was also a large open space for the kids to play ball games etc.
Matlock was a very short drive away, which we went to for sat night takeout. Sunday we drove out to Bakewell and I was pleasantly amazed at the shops and there location, there's the main road then just round the corner there is little cobbled street with quirky shops etc we thought was brilliant.
Upon arriving at the site there is a security barrier which you are given the code for once you have signed in, the showers were free and always spotless, out fresh water tap was only 50 yards away so when we realised we had forgot the aquaroll handles we weren't that upset. The rubbish bins were located here as well as the grey and chemical waste points.
My only gripe about this site was location and following the sat nav ! please please please if coming from the north go pass M1 J29 and exit M1 J28 - Alfreton. It looks longer but its a lot lOT quicker and easier.

We are a retired couple with one of us partially disabled so it is refreshing to find a campsite like Lickpenny which is extremely well organised.
All the pitches are large hardstandings and the site is protected by a coded barrier but there is ample parking for when our friends in Matlock visit.
In the reception is a basic, but useful shop where morning papers can be ordered.
The toilets and showers are top class, very clean and always warm. In addition there are washing and cooking facilities with water laid on outside for dogs.
We love this site and have been there many times over the last 10 years.
