I have just been to lickpenny lane. I must say the site is outstanding. I have only one problem with the site, my pitch was number 45 and i had one family walking through my pitch for a shortcut. Apart from that i have no problems with the site.
The garden centre across the road do a good breakfast if you feel like spoiling yourself and matlock is a nice town

Lickpenny is a truly fantastic site, we have been here about 5 or six times over the last couple of years and would not stay any where else in this area.

The pitches are huge and all hard standing, plenty of water points around and tarmac access roads to them all. There are some Super Pitches too in a little separate cul-de-sac, great if you have no kids, but if you have, you are better down in main site by the play area.

The toilet blocks are always warm and immaculately clean, the little launderette has a couple of washers and dryers, but not overpriced.

Small on site shop in reception selling basics and they will order newspapers for you.

The wardens are very friendly and helpful, really great when we got a flat battery, back in December 07 we arrived in the dark and left the headlights on the car to set up, the wardens came after hours with jump leads to get us going so we could go out for our evening meal, real customer service.

Site has good open spaces and does not cram too many people in and even when full, does not feel it.

Site has good access and is about a 15 minute drive into Matlock Bath, 30 minutes to Chatsworth and 45-60 mins into Buxton. We visit Carsington Water for walks and it has a great kids play area and visitor centre. The Crich Tramway village is also worth a visit.

There is a Sainsbury's in Matlock for shopping and a small CO-OP.

The park in Matlock is nice too, has a paddling pool, play area, skate park and is pleasant just for a walk through.

We love this area and this site and even use it as a stopover when we are on our way down south.

Highly recommended.

Me, the other half and two teenagers stayed here for Easter. We had a lovely few days. The staff were very friendly. Site was secure with a barrier. Pitches have to be the largest we have ever come across. We stayed at the top of the site. Amazing views.

Toilet/shower area. Although it was clean we felt that there weren't enough showers for the size of the site and had to queue each time. The weather was not great and the facilities did get quite muddy at times. Why cant people use the mop and buckets provided to leave the areas clean and tidy for everyone.

Site is well situated for discovering the Matlock area and we were never short of things to do. Small play area for younger kids.

Shop on site sells the basics. Farm shop nearby that made fantastic cakes. Scottish Nurseries (Garden Centre) about 2 mins walk away. Great little farm not too far away where you can get up very close to all the animals and feed them - even our two teenagers enjoyed this place. The information booth on the site will have the leaflets.

Just spent 7 nights at this site and enjoyed every minute of it.At this site there is no fault at all every where was spotless The clean water, waste water, waste and rubbish bin areas were well kept.Laundry room, drying room, family room with kids bath standards very good. All pitches are all hard standing and nice and big you will need rock pegs for awning. Nice park for the kids to play lots of grass for ball games. The toilets/showers were always clean.

We will definitely return next year

What a lovely well equipped site! This is our first year of touring and we were a little hesitant about being out and about during cold winter months. The weather was cold but the site was well equipped to make up for it. Most importantly the electric never failed! (As has done on other sites), and the free showers were lovely and hot - just what you need after bracing winter walks. The pitches are generous in size and the surrounding wooded area was perfect for walking Angus (our west highland white). The on-site shop is basic but stocks the essentials. The staff were extremely helpful and ordered our morning tabloids for us.

A lovely site in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside!

See you in the summer!

This was our 2nd visit this year and we loved it just as much again! The pitches are really big and the facilities spotless!

We found another lovely garden centre just 5 minutes away from Scotland Nurseries.

Bakewell market on a Monday is excellent and worth going to!

We will definitely go again next year.

Chatsworth decorated for Christmas was lovely, although a bit expensive.

Good site, good location, shower blocks kept to a very high standard. Pitches very large some with outstanding views. Small shop at reception selling basic provisions, excellent play area, ideal location for visiting peaks. Good shopping in Matlock about 3 miles away.Matlock bath well worth a visit with heights of Abraham cable car and Gullivers kingdom. We have visited Lickpenny on numerous occasions at different times of the year and have never been disappointed.

I found this site last year and have just spent a month here again, and I must say it is still top of my list. Spotless showers and toilets, potwashing and food prep area of the same high standard. Huge hardstanding pitches, great kids play area and loads of grass for ball games. Staff still very helpful. Plenty to do in Matlock and Matlock bath (5 mins in car) will be back again next year.

Picked this site mainly due to it's location in order to attend the Run to the Hills volkswagen Show nearby over the bank holiday weekend, but what a great choice!

We were really impressed with this site, it is exceptionally well kept, spacious and laid out. All pitches are individual private hardstandings and the site boasts two spotless utility blocks with plenty of hot water, free hairdryers and fresh cut flowers in the ladies shower rooms which was a really nice touch.

The kids were happy with the great play area and ample space to run around. It is nice to see that the owners of this site have obviously given a great deal of thought into the comfort of it's visitors as they have left a lot of free space around this site instead of squeezing in extra pitches.

The site was fully booked due to being the bank holiday but was still really peaceful and relaxing.

The staff were polite, helpful and informative, all necessary information is clearly displayed around the site and the reception area also has a small shop.

Mainly used by caravanners but this site also accepts trailer tents and motorhomes, our pitch was perfect for our campervan and drive-away awning but please note if using an awning, rock pegs are an absolute must!

The park felt very secure with the barrier system at the main entrance. The gates at the footpath entrances were locked overnight. The facilities and site are well lit at night and we noticed that there is even an overnight area with electric for late arrivals.

Lickpenny is fully deserving of all the fantastic reviews it has received, it is very reasonably priced. There is a lot of attention to detail at this site, it is so well thought out and there is nothing negative to say about it, definitely 10/10, therefore I can thoroughly recommend this site and will definitely visit it again on our next visit to Derbyshire.

We have just returned from Lickpenny and have to agree that it is fantastic.

We arrived on a day when it had been raining constantly since early morning but because all the pitches are hardstanding there were no problems with puddles or mud. Our pitch was on a bit of a slope but we found if we parked in the middle of the pitch it was much flatter. Most pitches looked pretty flat but the whole site is on a hill so you can't expect them to be perfectly level. The people who run the site are really helpful and gave us some blocks of wood to level us up. The pitches are all really big and there were some huge caravans and motorhomes there. Because the site is on a hill there are wonderful views from most of the pitches, especially the ones up the top away from the playground. The main thing that impressed us was the amount of space there was. Lickpenny isn't one of those sites that cram in as many pitches as possible and all the pitches are separated by bushes or mounds which makes them all seem very private. There was loads of space for kids (and dads) to play football or cricket without being right on top of the caravans. The playground was very popular with children of all ages, even in the rain. There are also picnic benches dotted around and we used these several times for eating our dinner.

All the facilities are perfect and everything is kept spotlessly clean. The showers were very nice and the hairdryer was free. There is even a microwave in the washing up area. The shop is well stocked with day to day things but there are plenty of shops in Matlock.

The surrounding area is unbelievably hilly. There are lots of little narrow bendy roads which seem to get steeper as you go up. Its very pretty and some of the views are amazing. If you go from the site into Chesterfield there is a huge hill called Slack Hill which is quite an experience for a family from flat Essex. We liked visiting Matlock Farm Park where the animals are really friendly. Gullivers Kingdom was good and Crich Tramway Museum is worth a visit. There are also hundreds of wonderful walks for all different abilities in the area. We took a trip up through the Peak District to Castleton where there are several caverns. The road down to them is great, really steep and bendy with sheep everywhere. The caverns are quite expensive and were very busy when we visited but the countryside is lovely.

We loved Lickpenny and would recommend it to everyone. The site has no bad points that we could find. The location is also ideal for visiting the area.
