Very pleasant site. Good views and pretty surroundings. Not as perfect and manicured as some sites but I liked the informality. Go for a pitch at the top of the hill like we did for the best views. We were in pitch number 64.

There's not much within walking distance of the site and I'm afraid that I can't recommend the Tavern at Tansley which is probably the nearest pub. We turned up at 7. 35pm and were not allowed to eat as we had not booked. They were not full, they were still serving people who arrived after us who had booked and the kitchen was still open. With that attitude they don't deserve your business.

I recommend the tram museum at Crich which is close by. It's a very well presented museum and very interesting even if you are not into trams.

Just returned from a week at Lickpenny. Have stayed at this site before so knew that we were returning to a well presented site. Went with friends this time so asked for a double pitch and we got one with lovely views over to Riber. Loads of room for the two vans, two porch awnings and two cars. Nothing about this site disappoints. The site is immaculately kept, the shower and toilet block spotless and warm. There is also a laundry room and a family wetroom. In the other shower block near to reception, there is a children's bathroom with scaled down bath and loo! The shop holds basic things you may run out of and you can also order papers for your stay.

The dog walk is appreciated as we have a dog, with bins for the waste. It always amazes me that there is always one person who cannot seem to do the decent thing and clear up after their dog but there was someone on the site during our stay. How hard is it?!

Rant over, I have to say this is a beautiful site and for the money they charge (Just £15pn Mon-Thurs) it worked out out very reasonable.

On a previous review someone mentioned the hard standings being soft, well, after a long period with no significant rain, they become very hard!

When we return to Derbyshire we shall definitely use Lickpenny again.

This was our first family outing in our caravan. The site was perfect for us. The pitches are very large and well maintained.

The toilet facilities are spotlessly clean and the grounds are well kept. We have three children aged 9, 7 and 3 so we requested a pitch near to the playground and although our view to the playground was blocked we were close enough for the kids to play without too much worry. There are many pitches that overlook the playground though so we will request one of those next time.

We also took our springer spaniel who enjoyed the large wooded dog exercise area.

The site was very peaceful and all in all it was an ideal site for our first trip. I have a feeling that future campsites that we may visit may not match the standards set here at Lickpenny.

A freezing (literally) weekend but the facilities block was not only immaculate it was well heated too. One disabled/family room in the adjacent facilities block, may be a bit inadequate when the site is full.

The pitches a very roomy and we were allocated a pitch next to our friends without having to ask. Both pitches with beautiful views. A lovely area to stay in, plenty of nice tea rooms and pubs and plenty ro do and see.

Staff when we saw them were pleasant. The only slight adverse factor to report about this lovely site was that the hard pitches are a bit soft in places, the frost soon solved it during our stay anyway!

We would certainly go back, our friends were also impressed.

We needed a place to test out the new (to us) caravan and Lickpenny and the UK weather delivered!

What a cracking site, we had called ahead to request a pitch close to the play area and were given just that, a view looking straight down onto it. Friendly welcome and even offered help when I had a few teething maintenence issues with the van!

The pitches are well spaced wide and all hardstanding. It allowed us to park our twin axle, full awning and 4x4 across the pitch and still leave plenty of room!

Toilet blocks are modern & clean and warm for all three nights we stayed even in the snow that we had each night! There is even the best children's bathroom we have ever seen complete with scale down bath and toilet pan, our 2 year old loved it!

As we were only there for three nights to test the van we only ventured out once to a children's play mill at Cromford, which I highly recommend.

Matlock has all you need with Fuel and food at the Sainsburys next to the train station and all others usual shops etc in the town.

Matlcok bath is worth a look (and to eat chips) there is also Gullivers Kingdom there too. We did not visit so cannot really comment.

All in all great site, great staff, great views, good play and open areas, great pitches. In fact its great ! Book yourselves in you will not be disappointed !

We will return again in the near future to use as our near to home weekender !

Thanks Lickpenny for making our first ever winter caravan break so enjoyable. Even the snow was fun !

We have had a lovely weekend at Lickpenny Touring park just dropped on a sunny weekend for our first trip out for 2013. This is a pretty site, well set out, large pitches and a warm clean modern shower block, it lives up to comments from previous reviews. We walked into Matlock on Friday and caught the bus back no problem had a bus timetable from reception. On Saturday walked to Milltown in the afternoon go right out of the campsite them right down Butterley Lane for just over a mile then turn left at the sign for Milltown just over 1/2 mile down the road is the Miners Arms. What a find best food in Derbyshire well priced and deserts to die for, had to take a slow walk home. Still if you have your car its only 5 mins. We were lucky you probably need to book.

We stayed here just after New Year, as we wanted to check a site that was midway between me and my sis, who has just purchased a new campervan. I have stayed at many sites all over the UK and felt that this one was the best I had been too. Our reception was very welcoming and the staff knew what they were doing. The site itself was in a beautiful location and we had a choice of many pitches due to the time of year. The facilities were excellent. Warm shower rooms, good pot washing facilities, with a microwave, which I thought was a good added extra.

Overall I think this is a five star site and I will definitely be going back!

This was our first time away with our caravan. We wanted a site that had great reviews within an hours drive of home, just in case!

We asked for two pitches next to each other to accommodate our van and another relatives van, the warden sorted us out a great double pitch with excellent views towards Riber. (pitches 59 &60)

The site was very clean, the pitches were generous and well set out. The shower block was spotless and warm and reception was reasonably well stocked.

On the occasions we had to speak to the staff, they were always very friendly and helpful.

We will be going back when we want a nearby get away.

Highly recommended.

If you want great views, try to get one of the numerous terraced pitches.

Our second visit this year - a great site out of season! Only three miles from Matlock for shops, buses, trains -- or just to enjoy. Chesterfield and Bakewell are also easy to get to and make good days out. There is also the Designer Outlet at Rowsley for some serious retail therapy!

A big site - around 100 pitches, mostly very generously sized with hook-ups. Great views from the top rows, although you do get the breezes up there! Facilities always clean, with two facility blocks. These can get overwhelmed in peak school holiday times.

Reception was quick and friendly, but they gave us a pitch already occupied. We decamped into a nearby vacant pitch and headed back to reception. Yes, we could stay on the pitch we had taken. Fortunately they didn't send anyone else to that pitch - but more by luck than administration, as they still had us on the original pitch when we went for our paper on Saturday.

There is a small shop in Reception - but Sainsbury's is down in Matlock which stocks most things that you are likely to need. It also has a Coffee shop and fuel station.

We hadn't planned it, but found ourselves there over a weekend of the Matlock Bath Illuminations. There were ten lit-up boats bobbing down the Derwent, some of which were very good, followed by fireworks. Not a large scale event, but with a Park & Ride bus service from the Matlock County Offices the easy way to get there and back, and a fish and chip supper in one of the local cafe's, it made a different night out. (The Illuminations run to the end of October)

Lickpenny is not the cheapest site in Derbyshire, but it IS worth it sprice. We will undoubtedly be back for our sixth visit next Spring.

Just had a lovely bank holiday weekend at this site. Staff are really friendly and helpful

Place is really clean and well looked after

Showers are excellent very clean no matter what time of day you go in, not far from matlock plenty to do and see in the area

Have booked for June next year so that says it all

Well worth the money for the deluxe pitches views are fantastic shame the weather wasn't so nice
