When you go to lickpenny use the direction given by the campsite as there are a few steep hills on some of the B roads.
On arrival the staff where very friendly and very helpful all the time we were there. Our pitch was looking onto the play ground so we could watch our son. The pitchs are reasonably level and all hard standing. Facilities are spotless, covered wash up and veg prep, disabled/family room with hair dryers free.
Plenty off space for the kids to play in.
The surrounding area is lovely. We are definitely going back.

Lovely campsite - would really recommend this one! spacious gravel pitches with nice hedging around so you never feel overlooked. Very quiet and peaceful. Good play park facilities for children and the toilets/shower blocks are beautifully clean. Great location for exploring peaks and matlock with it's park is wonderful for children to spend hours in, with boats, a small train and splash pool. Staff at Lickpenny were really friendly and helpful - would definitely go back again.

This is one of our favorite and most used campsites.I could not recommend highly enough.
Staff are great.
The pitches are spacious and a lot are private.
The shower block is very clean and bright.
A great park and play area for the children.
Lovely walks and short distance into matlock and surrounding areas.
There are some lovely garden centres nearby which are well worth a visit as well.

As previous reviewers have commented, this site is very pretty and well maintained however we were not impressed with the staff as I will mention below.
The toilet blocks are immaculate and I never had to queue for toilets or showers. The showers are pushbutton which is a bit of a bugbear for me however they were piping hot and good pressure.
It is a very peaceful site and because of the way it is laid out you feel like there are not many people there however when I really looked it was busier than it seemed.
There is a link with the Garden Centre over the road which is lovely and has a great cafe which gives a discount for breakfast for Lickpenny guests.
The children's play area is good and is totally surrounded by a very large area of grass which impressed me as they could have put lots more pitches in. We could see the play area from our caravan which was great.
It is quite high up and our pitch was fairly exposed to the high winds, you can also hear the busy A6015 which seems to be busy all night.
The only big complaint that we had was with a member of staff. We had asked the warden at the start of our holiday if it would be possible to leave the caravan in the large site carpark on our day of departure. This was to enable us to visit the nearby Gulliver's Kingdom on the last day. The warden was very helpful and said that was no problem and suggested that we put it next to his chalet. On the last day we moved the caravan to the carpark and had just unhitched it when the man from the office came over and said we could not leave it there. We explained that the warden had said it was OK. The man (very curtly) said that the warden was on holiday and he should not have said we could leave it and that we would have to move it. He then walked off! We were particularly annoyed as the carpark was empty and the caravan was not in the way of anyone. Luckily we asked at the garden centre and they kindly let us leave it there for the day thus saving a little boy from being very upset at not being able to visit the theme park.

We have just returned from a lovely, relaxing weekend away at Lickpenny.
As we walked around the site, it appeared to be nearly full, however you would never of guessed, it was so quiet and peaceful. There is a lovely park area for Children to play in and there is plenty of room there for ball games too.
The showers/ Laundry facilities were really clean, and even though there were lots of people at the park, there were no queues for the facilities.
The thing we really liked about this park was the fact that is was so peaceful (something you don't experience very often with 2 young children. The kids loved it as well as there are lots of wide open space for them to run off all that excess energy.
I would of given this site 10's for everything, the only part that could possibly improve a bit is the shop facilities.
Would definitely recommend this site to anyone regardless of party ages.

Just spent a very pleasant two nights here and can only agree to the very complimentary reviews of this campsite regarding cleanliness, facilities and scenery. As others have said not much to do here except relax, bring your own beer and enjoy the scenery. Did try to venture out on bike but the return trip nearly crippled me. Walked to Tansley along fairly busy road then caught the rather infrequent bus to Matlock (£1.20 each) then caught taxi back (£6) that's the best I could do without taking the motorhome out.

Stayed here a very cold February weekend. On arrival we checked in by the very helpful and friendly staff and shown to our large pitch with water and drainage The pitches are level and have water. The toilets were immaculate although I could see a queue forming for showers when the site is full. The only bad pint was the tv reception but that cant be helped. Will be returning as a very good site pleasure to visit.

Just had our first trip to this site. Will definitely be going back again. All hardstanding, large pitches, most separated by small trees or hedges. Lots of huge open grassy areas, giving an over all feeling of spaciousness. Good wooded dog walk. Good kids play area. There were loads of kids there this weekend, from babies to teenagers, but it doesn't seem noisy or crowded because of the huge open spaces. It was lovely to see so many families relaxing in the sunshine and having fun together. The play area and grassed areas near to it were big enough for games of football, frisbee, badminton, cricket, rounders, cycling, boules etc all to be going on at the same time.
TV reception was poor and we needed to put up our satellite dish. A clean, tidy and well run site with friendly staff.

Lickpenny is right up there with the very best sites in the country. That is if you like well kept, well thought out friendly sites. It doesn't have a pool or club house, but it does have a large play area/park for the kids, a very nice wooded dog walk and top class toilet/shower blocks.
We use Lickpenny as a weekend break destination as we only live 45 mins away and have visited most areas in Derbyshire many times. If you have never visited before you could spend a week or more here and still never see all the area has to offer.
Just one thing stops the site being perfect and that's the fact you need to jump in the car to go anywhere(not a fault of the site though).

We've just returned from a great weekend staying at Lickpenny. Having read all the previous reviews pretty much all of them were spot on.
The welcome was warm, the pitch was certainly on the large size enabling us to park sideways to take advantage of the fantastic views (we booked a deluxe pitch). The toilet block was clean and spacious (there are 3 showers, 3 toilet cubicles and a combined cubicle).
We took a stroll down into Tansley to find a pub to eat in on Friday evening (its about a mile and its all downhill - be sure to do a right then left outside of the park and past the garden centre as its much quicker than going up to the main road). We had a great meal in the Tavern which is the first pub you come across followed by a couple of beers in the Oak which has recently undergone a refurbishment - its more of an eating pub now and was much busier than the Tavern. We wimped out of the walk back and got a local taxi (Fox Taxis) back to the campsite at a very reasonable £4.50.
On saturday we took a taxi into Matlock and then walked along the river into Matlock bath (about half an hour tops). Whatever you do avoid The Midland pub on the left hand side as you come into Matlock bath - its dreadful; instead I'd say head further into Matlock bath and there's a pub on the right handside (i forget the name ! but you shouldnt miss it as its next to a chip shop) and dates back to 1610. Great food and lovely locals to boot.
Sunday saw a leisurely drive to Chatsworth - well worth the visit even though they're undergoing some major work on the building
All in all, a great weekend and I'd be more than happy to stay at Lickpenny again
