What can I say about this site without being a little biassed. visited site to book 5 vans on and spend the day at Matlock, receptionist a gem, sorted plots out for us to be together. even though they are huge we stayed on the super pitches with views to die for. The showers and toilets are very clean and warm. There's a play area for the kid and plenty of grass area for them to play. Tansley car boot close by and worth a visit. Very good site but one small bad point take loads of pegs for hard ground has it is very hard to peg awning.

Lovely clean site with large pitches and most having great views. Warm shower block although push button showers. Quite a large site but most pitches felt fairly private with carefully planted shrubbery. A large dog walk with a partial gravel path around it which could do with a revamp so its easier in the rain. This site has obviously been well thought out and there is a good reception and information room. We came here about 8 years ago and liked it so called in on the way back from Yorkshire. There are no negatives really but to be picky the roads could do with some new tarmac! We will definitely visit again.

This is quite a large site, situated 15 minutes from junction 28 of the m1. It is located in the middle of nowhere with a lot of the pitches tiered on a gentle incline giving stunning views across Derbyshire.
We stayed in early January so not surprisingly it was quiet however it did give us a chance to see what the site and Derbyshire had to offer.
When we arrived we were welcomed at the reception and explained where to put our van and how the site was laid out. We had opted for a deluxe pitch that included water and grey water waste. We had pitch 5 which is right at the top of the site. This we believe to be one of their best pitches as the views were stunning and recycling and black water disposal point are just over the roadway. On walking round the site, even though it was quiet, the amount of space each pitch has was quite evident and all the pitches are well spaced out. The toilet block was immaculate and very well laid out with modern decoration. They also have a nice laundry room and veg prep/dish washing room with microwave. There is a wooden play area for kids which is located at the bottom of the site so it wont disturb those residents who are not so child friendly. At the top of the site is a large 'au natural' area that is dedicated to wildlife. It would appear to be a popular site for people to leave vans setup, awnings and all, then I guess they come up for weekends.
Local area is quite rural so if you want a supermarket its about 15 minute drive for the likes of tesco and lidl in Alfreton or Sainsburys in the opposite direction in Matlock. Closer to home, 100yds from the entrance, is a very nice farm shop/garden centre well worth a wander. The deli has been voted best in Derbyshire 2013 and the aquatic centre has some stunning fish. There is another farm shop about 500yds away but this was closed till February so we couldn't see this one.
Points that some may see as negative- If you are on a serviced pitch and don't want to use your van's bathroom facilities, it is a fair walk to the shower/toilet block. Solution:use your van. We stopped really off season so it was stunningly quiet. It strikes us that in peak season it could be a very popular/busy site which may not suit everyone however the site looks like it can handle quite a few visitors.
Definitely one we will return to when we want a weekend away which is not too far from home.

We booked (in September 2013) a seasonal let from November 2013 to March 2014. It is now mid February and we have left.
On arrival we discovered the price was now £75 more per month than our written quotation. Initially management were very helpful in assisting us to park up our 5th wheel, but this courtesy almost instantly disappeared. Within 2 weeks of being at the site we were questioned as to how long we were to be on-site. This line of questioning became a frequent conversation, even after our movements had been identified to them (and appearingly accepted). Talking to others on the site, we learnt that the management had recently changed, and that the new policy appeared to be to encourage vans to stay but without people in them (one couple were banned in February, another told there was no point re-siting to another pitch since they were leaving!). All I can say is that if their aim is vans and no occupants, then the management are ideally suited, being the most unwelcoming people in hospitality that I have ever met.
Interestingly the only time the barrier was lifted for me by management (I drive a left hand drive so it is never easy to do myself) was when we left!
The positive aspects are the site is very clean, the location is great for walkers and cyclists alike and the pitch sizes are very generous.

A wonderful site with magnificent views over Derbyshire. Excellent heated toilet and shower rooms. Really like that an awning is included in price. Large individual hedged pitches large grassy area with children's play area. Super pitches available that are away from play area so good for older visitors. Two garden centres within walking distance. Matlock and Chesterfield well worth a visit. Highly delighted overall and will definitely return.

We chose Lickpenny as our first trip in Lefty, our recently purchased motorhome. The staff were very friendly and helpful although their bus timetable information isn't correct (we were very early for one bus and late for the return). The bus stop is a few hundreds yards up the lane from the site although the services are very few and far between (every 3 hours). It has a small shop with some frozen food as well as essentials, only gripe is it shuts at 5pm. The play area was ok for older kids although mine were a bit too small to use it (2 and 5). Our pitch was elevated so had great views and was secluded. The ground was hard standing so we couldn't get the awning up, wasn't a problem though as we were only staying for three nights. I'd definitely return to Lickpenny as it was in a good spot to visit the area, especially Matlock and Matlock Park Farm for the younger kids.

Just returned from a fantastic 3 night stay at Lickpenny over the holiday weekend. This site is beautifully landscaped and many of the generous sized pitches had great views towards Riber.
Toilet facilities were as always immaculate. Plenty of space for kids to play and burn off energy!
There are 2 good garden centres within walking distance and also, try Riber View farmshop and cafe as it is well worth the 10 minute stroll.

We have been to the site with the Welsh caravan club. As the site was layered we were not together and could not get together and sit outside as we usually do, this did not cause a big problem. The hard standing was very hard to put the awning up.
It is a good site with great views from the top. Toilets and showers were very clean. There is a very good dog walk on site. 26 of us ate at the Royal Oak in Tansley. The food was excellent with very large potions. Two very good garden centre's nearby were worth a visit.

This is a nice site and good place to stay if you're touring around the Matlock Bath or Bakewell area. We stayed here over a bank holiday and it was quite full.
Many pitches are very private. Maybe a little too so. High hedges mean they blocked the glorious views. The main negative on this site is the shower/toilet block. There's not enough showers and loos. Every morning there was a queue which was really annoying. This was both in the men's and ladies. They also have push button style showers, like at public swimming baths. This meant the showers cut off every 30 seconds or so which was really annoying.
Overall nice site with basic facilities.

This is a great site. We had chosen it as we wanted to be close to Matlock. The site is spacious with a huge playing field, playground and dog walking facilities. The entrance has a pass code so you can get in and out at any time, which is nice.
Each pitch is nice and big (although we only have a small Freedom van and Renault Clio) and the facilities are clean and we never had to queue, even though the site was almost full.
We will definitely go again.
