Just spent 4 days here on a large pitch on the terraced part of the site with wonderful views. There are both single and double pitches with the single pitches well sheltered. The two toilet blocks are immaculate and we never had to wait to use them. There are many service points which have chemical disposal, coupled with waste including recycled waste. In fact they must have the largest number I know. As a motorhome user they had a good waste water disposal and easily accessed water points. Though we didn't have children with us they have a good play area. Everyone was very friendly and all our queries wel quickly and courteously dealt with.
There is so much to do in the area that we need to go back to finish seeing them all. Highly recommended

This was our first site after purchase of our new campervan and it was only a one night flying visit to the site because we were meeting family in Matlock, so we arrived early to find our pitch then left for the day and came back late at night and left fairly early the next morning.
The staff were very friendly and helpful and we were very impressed with what we saw of the facilities. The showers and toilets were excellent and our young granddaughter was very impressed with the children's bathroom!
Our pitch was huge and surrounded by trees and the site seems to be incredibly quiet and peaceful from what we could see during our short stay. We will certainly come back to this site if we are in the area again and hopefully make more use of the great facilities the next time.

We have just completed an excellent week at Lickpenny and would heartily recommend this site to any Caravanner. The site was well planned and very well maintained. The toilet/shower blocks were pristine and the laundry and veg. Prep areas were excellent.
Worthy of special mention are the Staff, especially Guy in reception. All were very friendly and willing to assist at any time.
The site is well situated in a beautiful area of a most beautiful County and is an ideal base for Walkers and for visitors to the many local attractions.
Our only complaint about Lickpenny is that we had to leave!

Family of 4 (children aged 10 and 7 yrs) with Touring caravan
Just a quick review as I think this site deserves a mention.
Beautifully set, spacious site with clean loos and showers, a great park and play space for the kids and well located to explore Matlock and Derbyshire as a whole.
Plots are very large with individual hedging and they don't seem to cram in more plots as do lots of places.
Staff friendly and helpful- we stayed all day Sunday- despite not the best of weather cost a fiver (until 6pm) which allowed the awning to dry out!
Also to mention fab meal at the plough pub and great farm shop in the nearby garden centre - Scotland nurseries.
Couple of very small negatives: quite a bit of litter around our pitch when we got there and a better stocked shop of essentials would be nice but never the less we will definitely be returning and fingers crossed for better weather!

We have just returned from a lovely holiday at Lickpenny. The weather was glorious which helped a lot. The site was easy to find and there were no problems with access. The staff were really nice and very helpful and ordered us a daily paper at no extra cost (we have been to sites where they have charged an extra 50p for this service). The nearest small town is Matlock which has a great park with paddling pool and lots of seating dotted about.
The site is in a lovely setting with large pitches and plenty of space all round. The showers and toilets were spotless and always warm.
My only small complaint is that for the first three days we were there they started mowing and strimming at about 10:30am and didn't stop until about 3:30pm which we found extremely annoying but having read the reviews on here about it being untidy maybe they have read them and taken up the challenge. Whilst we realised they have to cut the grass it did seem a little prolonged especially as we were told on arrival nothing would disturb the peace of the site!

What a great site this is. The site is set in beautiful surroundings just a couple of miles out of Matlock. The site itself is just off a quiet country lane, although it is set on the side of a hill, the site is terraced so the pitches are reasonably level.
The facilities are very clean, though I do think it needs a few more toilet cubicles and showers. You never have far to walk for water points and disposal.
There is a small shop on site that sells the basics but for a full shop there's a Sainsbury's in Matlock.
Although not cheap at £28 p/n for a caravan, awning, EHU, 2 adults, 2 kids and a dog, I would certainly consider going back.

Stayed here for three nights on our epic three week tour to Devon and Cornwall.
Lovely site. Clean and level and the toilets/showers were spotless
Site wardens were really helpful and friendly and we loved the little shop in reception.
The weather was fantastic.
There are two pubs in the village which are within walking distance. We had a meal at the first one which was poor. My husband and friend had to send their meals back and order something else which was very disappointing as we had heard good reviews about the food.
Matlock was lovely. Would return to this site as we enjoyed it so much

We have just enjoyed a wonderful stay at Lickpenny as part of a 5 van group over the bank holiday weekend, and were extremely lucky with the weather. The site is very well laid out (probably not quite as neat & tidy as the photo's on web site) but the bonus is that all the pitches within the top half of the site (see their web site for site plan) have great views. Plus the standard pitches are good sized hard standing with room for van, awning and car, with boundary hedging offering privacy. We all stayed on the fully serviced pitches which are huge again with boundary hedging around each pitch, which provided a peaceful and spacious environment.
There are 2 toilet/shower blocks that were empty every time I visited, not sure if I was lucky but considering it was a busy bank holiday it surprised me. The water was constantly warm and the pressure was excellent in the shower, although it is operated by the old fashioned push button without temp control. A door mat would be useful so leaves and grass aren’t walked through when it’s wet.
The wardens are very friendly and made arrival very quick and easy, they have a small shop on site – the fresh range eggs were huge.
We hadn’t visited this area of the peak district before and found the site to be well placed for visiting Matlock, Matlock Bath, Chatsworth and Bakewell with an abundance of fantastic walks in every direction within reasonable driving distance. The dog walk area on site is very small, with another woodland walk just outside the site boundary but again this is quite small and dogs are supposed to be kept on leads so was disappointing, however we really didn’t need it as there are so many places to explore.
The roads that surround the site seem like a bit of a cut through so were too busy to comfortably walk along with the dogs. The play area is more suited to older children. Didn’t visit the garden centre but it an easy 5 min stroll via the woodland walk. Further down the road, there is another garden centre that seemed to be busy also. In the other direction there is a Sunday market/car boot that was very popular although again didn’t visit. I would definitely return to this site and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to others.

Very pleasant site. Good views and pretty surroundings. Not as perfect and manicured as some sites but I liked the informality. Go for a pitch at the top of the hill like we did for the best views. We were in pitch number 64.
There's not much within walking distance of the site and I'm afraid that I can't recommend the Tavern at Tansley which is probably the nearest pub. We turned up at 7. 35pm and were not allowed to eat as we had not booked. They were not full, they were still serving people who arrived after us who had booked and the kitchen was still open. With that attitude they don't deserve your business.
I recommend the tram museum at Crich which is close by. It's a very well presented museum and very interesting even if you are not into trams.

Just returned from a week at Lickpenny. Have stayed at this site before so knew that we were returning to a well presented site. Went with friends this time so asked for a double pitch and we got one with lovely views over to Riber. Loads of room for the two vans, two porch awnings and two cars. Nothing about this site disappoints. The site is immaculately kept, the shower and toilet block spotless and warm. There is also a laundry room and a family wetroom. In the other shower block near to reception, there is a children's bathroom with scaled down bath and loo! The shop holds basic things you may run out of and you can also order papers for your stay.
The dog walk is appreciated as we have a dog, with bins for the waste. It always amazes me that there is always one person who cannot seem to do the decent thing and clear up after their dog but there was someone on the site during our stay. How hard is it?!
Rant over, I have to say this is a beautiful site and for the money they charge (Just £15pn Mon-Thurs) it worked out out very reasonable.
On a previous review someone mentioned the hard standings being soft, well, after a long period with no significant rain, they become very hard!
When we return to Derbyshire we shall definitely use Lickpenny again.
