Just arrived back from a great weekend break at Lickpenny touring site. On arriving the site looks well kept clean and tidy. Reception staff were very helpful when booking in. Our pitch was number 6a which we found very spacious plenty of room. On walking round the campsite we found all pitches very spacious and private. There was a children's play area, Dog walking area which was fine. Toilet and shower block were spotless plenty of hot water hairdryer even fresh flowers. Laundry room with washing machine iron. There was a family room with small toilet and bath great if you have little ones. All in all a great site. Would we return cant wait.

Just returned from a fabulous stay at the Lickpenny caravan park. It was our first time so we decided to stay quite local and I must say that the staff here was absolutely fab. They offered to help us set up and was at hand when we had a problem with the awning poles. The park itself is spotless throughout, the toilets and showers to veg prep areas are all immaculate. There is a lovely play area for the little ones and plenty of room for them to play. Matlock bath is a little hidden gem for families, from Gullivers kingdom to the arcades etc. Derbyshire has a lot to offer from beautiful scenery to plentiful walks, there is so much to see and do. A definite visit is needed and this park is an ideal base. Only downfall for Lickpenny is that it does not have any walkable areas so have to drive or use local transport. Taxi is approx £6.00 into Matlock, bus is £2.10 per adult. All in all a brilliant time, thank you to all the staff xx

Rang up at short notice and was accommodated, gave us a choice of pitches [we chose the one overlooking the park] On site shop stocks the basics. Nice quiet site as previous reviewers have said. The shower block and toilets are immaculate, some of the pitches are far from level. I just wished there was something close by as we went on a spur of the moment and could have done with a takeaway!

This site was our first visit in our new vehicle so we were complete novices. The site was quiet as expected at this time of year. We found it clean good walking area for our 2 dogs. The washrooms were very clean, loved the flowers, nice touch. The reception staff were very helpful and went out their way by making a telephone enquiry to a local place to check if it was dog friendly or not. A lovely place to stay if you want a get away from it all break. We will be back

A lovely site, very spacious pitches, toilets and showers very clean, fresh flowers in the ladies and free use of hair-dryer. Dogs are also welcome here there's a lovely dog walking area and cow field at the top end of the site with fabulous views. A lovely park and play area for children.
We stayed Saturday afternoon until Sunday afternoon, we walked to the nearest pub Saturday teatime, The Tavern which was just 1 miles away in anticipation of a pie and a pint but was turned away as they didn't allow dogs so, we then walked a little further to the Royal Oak at Tansley again to be told the same, eventually after 3 miles we found the lovely Red Lion like a mirage it glistened in the dark beckoning us to come in, a fabulous place, very welcoming and friendly staff, child friendly and more importantly DOG friendly. It has a large T.V in the bar area which was quite busy, mainly men watching football, a lovely lounge with a roaring fire and a large separate dining area, we ate in the lounge and the food was fab!
Walking back to Lick-penny Camp-site in the dark was a little scary to say the least with only half the distance having a footpath, make sure you take your torch! If the roads weren't so busy it could have been a lovely walk in the moonlight.
The only criticism is that as a dog friendly site it what would be helpful to offer a list of local or nearby pubs that are also dog friendly.
Annoyingly on return I've searched the web and apparently 'The Gate' a DOG friendly pub is a short distance from The Tavern just around the corner in fact - better late than never. The six mile walk instead of the three helped burn those extra calories off we'd consumed at the pub!
But what a lovely site definitely worth a visit! :) 4****

This was our 2nd time at lickpennys and we just love it. We stayed from Friday till Sunday. We only live 15 miles away but feel we have had a good relaxing break when we have been.
We stayed in July on plot 14 and it was red hot weather. Showers very clean and no queues. Plot 14 looked over park so we could keep an eye out on our 8 yr old.
We then returned in October for Friday till Monday break and it was just the same. Clean tidy well kept. This time we had plot 19 which also overlooked the park. The shower block is heated and is warm as toast inside. So after a long shower you still stayed warm once you have finished.

Matlock a short drive away
Riber castle a short drive away
A very peaceful well kept family site.
We love it very much and will return.

Our family of four visited this site during the school half term. The pitch that we had was fantastic in regards to size (all hardstanding).
It was close enough to the play area to allow the children to go on their own but far enough away so noise was not an issue (well designed site). The toilet block was very clean with warm showers.
The showers may become congested during summer months.
There was road noise in a morning and around tea time as the road is used as the road nearby is used to avoid Matlock and is used as a rat run for works traffic.
The site is too far away from matlock to walk unfortunately. We would return

What a great site! The shower block/toilets were clean and tidy. Didn`t use the playground but there were plenty of children having great fun. Went into Matlock Bath, loads to see and do, Masson Mill Shopping Outlet is well worth a visit ,just along the main road past Matlock Bath.
The site is excellently laid out with shrubs between pitches with hardstanding which means you don`t have to worry about wet feet if it`s raining. Dog walk was enjoyed by Susie and Max the Jack Russells especially the squirrels! The Warden was also very helpful, altogether a first class site! Only downside was you do need to travel to visit anywhere.

Found this location on UKCampsite.co.uk, read the 109 excellent reviews. Over the years have been to hundreds of sites around the country, this site has to be one of the best we have been to. We just wanted a weekend away, after just having a fortnight in Dorset, cloudy most of that time.
We arrived at 1200 Saturday, we were given pitch 55, not having been before. Pitch 55 was on the raised terraces overlooking Matlock, the views were to die for.
My wife had a walk around to check which pitches we should ask for on our next visit, as a 40 minute drive from Sheffield is a very small price to pay for paradise and peace.
Matlock was as busy as ever Sat and Sun, illuminations and motorbikes, fish and chips for tea, and then back to the most peaceful site we have been to.
On the Sunday we took our 13 year old son to Matlock park. The facilities for any age were excellent, motorboat lake, bmx arena, pitch and putt, bowls, tennis and a cafeteria.
The site itself had Hard standing, mature, individual pitches, giving you your own space and privacy.
Spotless toilets and lovely landscaping.
I would give this site 10/10

We have just returned from our 3rd visit to Lickpenny, and wasn't disappointed. We love this site and will be returning.
The pitches are very big - plenty of room for a twin axle caravan, full awning, car and still room to sit outside!
The site is very well maintained, as are the toilet blocks - they were always very clean.
There is plenty of room for the children to play and there is a nice park. However if you have young children the pitches near the park are the best as you can see the park but are not too close to be bothered by footballs etc.
There is small shop, although we didn't use it as there is a large Sainsbury's just down the road in Matlock.
There is a lot to do in the area including the Heights of Abraham in Matlock Bath, tramway museum, loads of walking and cycle hire near by. My son particularly liked Matlock as there is a good skate park there!
The staff on site were very friendly and helpful. They had made a mistake with our booking but found us another suitable pitch and let our 2 children stay free of charge.
I think this is one the nicest sites we have visited.
