Just come back from a lovely week at Lickpenny, well where do we start. What a lovely site the pitches are massive and can easily fit your car, caravan and awning on (and you don't get that very often)

The staff are very friendly and nothing seems to much trouble for them. The toilet / shower block was spotless plenty of room to move around in the shower's etc. The play area was good as we were right opposite it, which suited us as we had our 11 year old with us and he loved every minute of meeting loads of new friends, but there are also pitches away from the play area if you like the peace and quiet that this site offers

The dog walk is bigger than most that you get on caravan sites but there is also a dog walk just across the road for you to use which is good.

There is lots to do in matlock and matlock bath and the cable car ride up to 'the heights of abraham' is well worth taking, it seems a bit expensive but was well worth the money as we all loved it and there was plenty to do when you get up there, going down in the cavern was great and our 11 year old loved it.

All in all a week at lickpenny was lovely and will hopefully be going back soon as we had a warm welcome, a great week and fab relaxing times which makes a brill caravan break (well in my book anyway).

Just back from our weekend away checking the van was OK after the winter. We absolutely love this site. Its the second time we have been and its superb. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. The showers/toilets are immaculate. The pitches are huge and many have fantastic views over to Riber Castle. There are areas where you can be near to the children's play area or if you like peace and quiet then there are some lovely spots away from there.

Busy car boot Sunday mornings short walk away. Gullivers Kingdom bril for the little ones. Carsington Water absolutely superb - much to do there. Definitely back soon.

We stayed here as its close to home and we wanted to check everything was working on our first trip out for 2010.

All the pitches are spacious and hardstanding which is perfect for out of season holidays. We were allocated a pitch on arrival and as we are used to selecting our own pitch, we asked if that was possible. The owner was happy to recommend another pitch which gave us fabulous views over the countryside towards Riber Castle.

I didn't use the shower block, as I prefer to use our own facilities in winter, but they looked very modern and clean(although they are the push button type). There are only 2 shower blocks so I would imagine when the site is full there could be a queue at peak times.

We got a taxi into Matlock on Saturday for only £6.20. The weather was good so we had a pleasant stroll into Matlock Bath. On Sunday we had another pleasant 10 minute stroll to the Tansley carboot sale. As its early in the season and was extremely cold and windy there weren't that many stalls but I believe it can be one of the largest in the area.

There is a children's play area and lots of grass for games, but as it was so fresh and there were no other children my daughters age, she didn't try it out.

We paid an extra £3 to stay until 3 (normal departure time is 12pm). As it is out of season and the site wasn't busy it would have been nice to have been allowed to stay on free of charge, as the Caravan club allows you to do. However as we only paid £15 a night and this is probably the best quality site we have stayed on outside of the Caravan Club network then we didn't mind paying.

What a site, great views a cross Derbyshire dales. The site is the best site we have stayed on in Derbyshire, it ticks all the boxes. The toilet blocks are all clean and spotless. Kiddies play ground well away from the caravans so for people like us that don't have children can enjoy the peace and quiet while the families enjoy theirs too! There are a number of pubs within a short drive for those of us that like a good pub lunch.

Staff helpful & friendly. Pitches are hardstanding and very large. Grounds are kept exceptionally clean & tidy. If you have dogs there is a dog exercise area. Playground for children.

We went in February when it was snowing and the showers & toilet block were still very warm, clean. Showers nice & warm, hairdryer situated in this block. Pot washing room with radiator, also microwave available free of charge. Would definitely visit again.

We enjoyed staying here during the heavy snow fall over the new year. The friendly staff were just that, allowing caravans that should have left remain free of charge due to the conditions.Generous pitch sizes and not overlooked, The toilet / shower block was spotless and warm.We found three great pubs in the village of Ashover, these made even more friendly by the open fires roaring away.

This is a must return site for us

Stayed here over the new year site was very quite although it was virtually full snow fall may have deterred some caravans from reaching site.

As previous reviews have stated this is a fantastic site

Live in warden was very helpful facilities very clean although the waist area we were pitched near was turned off maybe due to the risk of freezing pipes

Will happily come back in the summer

As a note Bakwell is aprox 25 mins away and Buxton 35 mins

We walked most of the popular routes and all were very easy to get to from this site

Quite simply the best site we have visited!

Superb size pitches, the best toilets and showers we have been in and the children's wash block is a superb addition to an already top drawer site.

Already booked again for easter

Close to matlock, matlock bath and bakewell

If you want a peaceful break with no hassle then visit lickpenny

Having tried this site for one night in August and liking it, we decided to come back in September for a slightly longer stay. This visit was timed to coincide with the first night of Matlock Illuminations and the boat procession. We had a great evening there and it wasn't nearly as crowded as we'd expected it to be, and so we managed to park in Matlock Bath fairly easily.

The site is excellent - very generous hard standing pitches, with hedging providing privacy between most pitches. We were at the top of the site, which meant we had great views, but did also expose us to very high winds. We actually damaged our awning whilst trying to erect it on the first day. Although the following days were more settled, we were still quite exposed where we were pitched.
Televison reception wasn't brilliant, but watch able and the peaceful atmosphere and great views more than compensated. The facilities were excellent and we certainly intend another visit in the future.

Stunning, superb, cannot recommend highly enough. Huge pitches, marvellous views for some, staff extremely friendly and helpful. Very spacious play area. Plenty of water/waste points around the site. If you don't mind a little jaunt up a small hill the pitches at the top of the site have lovely views.

Loads to do in the area.

Any bad points? Only maybe the showers could be a little stronger being really picky but they are very clean and spacious.

Will return.
