We stayed here the first weekend in September, the site was busy but not quite full. A nice site with large hard standing pitches. The site is terraced but some pitches we slightly sloping. Plenty of water and waste points.
Two nice toilet blocks with free push button showers, plenty of hot water. The site has a parent and child room with a mini bath pretty much the same as caravan club sites which was very useful for the children.
Each block had a pot wash area which was very warm and had two sinks and a microwave - never had to queue to use these.
This is a very large spacious site, loads of room for the children to play and a nice play area which can be seen from many pitches but far enough away for the children not to be heard.
The site had a large wooded area that was set out as a dog walk area.
Reception doubles as a small shop selling the essentials where newspapers can be ordered. An ice cream van visited each day which the children enjoyed.
You can walk to a couple of garden centres from the site and Matlock Bath is only a few miles away.
Normal departure time is midday but you can pay £3 to stay until 3pm and £5 to stay until 6pm- this was a great idea as you are then not relying on the goodwill of the wardens to allow you to enjoy a full day on site.
I would recommend this site and would certainly return.

We booked this site very late on a Thursday night for arrival the following day, it was a bit further than I wanted to travel for a weekend away but everywhere closer was fully booked and boy was I happy I booked
This site is one of the best I have visited, in fact I was so impressed I left the caravan there on a £15 weekly link for the next three weekends,
The pitches are huge and level the park is immaculate,
The staff are friendly and so laid back, shower blocks clean and fresh plenty of hot water,
Utility room with washing machines, dryers ironing board, veg prep area room and dish washing facilities even a microwave,
Could not fault this site and its very reasonably price, truly 5 star

Just come back from our 2nd stay at Lickpenny and have to say we have had a brilliant time.
Toilets and showers all lovely and clean, play area far enough away but close enough to see your children. Pitches are excellent and always close to water, waste and bins (but not too close), they are also flat but have gravel.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Also recommend the Tavern at Tansley which is just a short car ride (or a hike) away.
The food is excellent and Sunday dinner is definitely worth a go. I love the idea of extended check out e. G. 3pm or 6pm for a small fee. We will be Back.

This has been our 2nd visit to the site and we're still just as impressed with it as we were the 1st time! Friendly, helpful staff who greet you with a warm, genuine welcome.
Spacious hard standing pitches with privacy. Toilets were spotlessly clean. Playground was ok and out of the way of the caravans.
The only criticism we had was that you must use rock pegs as you won't be able to hammer anything else into the hardstanding - its that hard!
Only a 5 minute drive into Matlock, where there is good shopping. The local park has putting green, bowling green, tennis courts, skatepark, boating lake, miniature train and a paddling pool for the younger children.
One of our favourite sites which I'm sure we will make a return visit to.

This is the best campsite I have ever stayed! I cant fault it! We stayed for 3 nights for the bargain price of £15 a night! then reception staff were friendly, and the site is secure with a barrier and you are given a number to get in/out.
The pitches are level and well maintained. We were putting up our sun awning and one of the staff came over to ask if it was ok for him to level one of the nearby pitches as he said it would be noisy! very nice of him to ask!
The toilet/shower block was beautifully clean and warm. Showers are free you just keep pressing the button. There is also a room with toilet, sink, mirror with handy shelf if you just want to have a private wash!
The site was very quiet, we stayed on one of the top pitches with absolutely beautiful views over the valley. The pitches all have shrubs between them which makes them very private. They are also very large with plenty of room for awning/car/gazebo. There are plenty of bins and water taps dotted all over the site which is very convenient.
I will definitely be coming back to this site next summer.

Great stay on this lovely campsite
A bit of struggle to get there down windy narrow lanes but once there it was lovely.
4 families all with small children. Lovely play area, large grassy area that we had a fun game of rounders on.
Well stocked site shop.
Showers were nice and clean and warm.
Pitches were hardstanding with plenty of space allocated.
Visited the Tavern in Tansley for a pub meal, was ok, great hosts just fish and chips a little bland. 10 minute drive to Matlock (where the chippies smelt divine!)
There is also a sunday market on a field behind the site, mainly car boot but was ok
Would definitely recommend and return

Just returned from a weekend visit to Lickpenny. This is our second visit and we are very impressed with the site.
Hardstanding Pitches are very large and easily accommodate Van Awning and Car.
We had pitch 18 'overlooking' the children's play area, although this is still a sufficient distance not to be noisy in any way.
The site is very spacious and you never have the feeling you are penned in.
Large Car boot sale on a Sunday a short walk away, and there is plenty to do locally with Matlock, Matlock Bath, Peak Rail and The Heights of Abraham all worth a visit.
Staff are very friendly and helpful.
Toilet / Shower Blocks immaculately clean, as is the food preparation and washing facilities.
Excellent Site, we will be visiting again.

Just returned from a 4 night break (Fri to Tues)at this lovely caravan park we are 2 adults and two 8 year old children.
On arrival the welcome and check in was efficient and friendly, we had pre-booked a pitch overlooking the playground which was also close to the 'lower' toilet/shower block but not a problem.
Arriving Friday early eve. Was very busy with lots of children playing on the very well equipped playground (ours made new friends instantly)and the seemingly acres of open spaces for ball games but still not noisy and quite calm and peaceful and all was totally quiet by 9.30 pm.
The hardstanding pitch with ehu was more than spacious for our van, awning and car and still more to spare, all pitches are as big, and most separated by mature hedges/trees and shrubs, there is also an area with super pitches available for additional charge.
The amenities blocks (2) were spotlessly clean, included potwash, washers, dryers and a family/disabled toilet/shower facility all cleaned daily. The only tiny criticism would be that there were only 3 toilet cubicles in each and maybe this could be a problem but with this being a caravan only site the majority visitors may use there own facilities most of the time.
Overall a great stay at an excellent, well maintained and pretty site, ideally situated for the delights of the Matlock area of Derbyshire.

This site is only a very short drive for us so we mainly use it in the off season when you cant be sure of the weather.
It's great for all year caravanning due to the hard standing pitches and the fabulous toilet and shower blocks. The only down side is the big long hill you need to take to get here.
There is a garden centre within walking distance that does great food and is lovely to look round. Any further than that and you really need the car, although Matlock Bath and Matlock with its Sainsburys and Peak Rail steam train, are only a short drive away.
The staff are very helpful, although there are strict rules about departure times with a stay late charge applicable all the time, even when quiet.
The site has lots of space and a play area and I guess we will be back in October.
The Tavern at Tansley a short drive down the hill and had re-opened since our last visit. Their food is really something special, not just pub grub and I'm looking forward to a return visit.

Stayed for 4 nights from the 18th April with two children and had a wonderful time. Although the weather was great, the site would be suitable in all weathers due to the large hard standing pitches.
We had pitch 15 which overlooks, but is not too close, to the play area. The whole site is very very spacious and each pitch is separated by bushes.
As well as the play area, there are various open spaces suitable for ball games etc, and there are also picnic tables dotted around.
The reception staff are very helpful right from the time of telephoning to make the booking, through to giving advice of where to eat etc. Daily papers can also be ordered at reception.
The two amenity blocks are very clean and spacious.
Highly recommend anyone to go to this site. If you have children, the pitches in the crescent over looking the play area (pitches 13 to 19 I think) are ideal
