Just got back from this site will go again, when we got there we were not happy with the pitch so asked if we could change, the staff very helpful and no problems excellent pitch. Shower clean, staff always there to help, lots of places to visit - there is a garden centre near by that you can walk to, we went to the farmers market in Bakewell - excellent nice village and Matlock is not far.

Spent 9 nights at Lickpenny running into the Easter Bank Holiday weekend. We found the site easily and access to the site was very good. We decided to go for a Deluxe Pitch due to previous comments about the views from these pitches. The views are lovely from these pitches however I found the trek to and from the toilet / shower blocks a bit too far. The other drawback from these Deluxe Pitches is the wind. Because they are situated at the top of the park at the top of a hill, even the smallest breeze seems to turn into a strong wind by the time it reaches the top of the hill. We originally had our awning up but due to the wind had to take it back down again which was hard work (again due to the winds). The toilet / shower blocks were very modern and kept very clean, I used the shower on numerous occasions and although they were quite powerful could have been a bit hotter, having said that they are more than adequate. The children's play area looked quite new so I believe they may have updated this since previous comments. My 8 year old enjoyed playing in the play ground and the site have tried to cater for a wide age range due to the different play equipment available. We really enjoyed our stay at Lickpenny, it is a 3 hour drive from our home but if we visit Derbyshire again I wouldn't hesitate to visit Lickpenny again only next time I'd opt for a pitch opposite the play area.

We booked this site at the last minute and were lucky they could squeeze us in. We had to have a "superpitch" which mostly meant our own watertap and waste disposal point on the pitch. The whole site's pitches are hardstanding and you will need metal pegs to erect an awning (we didn't due to it being February).
The reception staff were very helpful when we telephoned them, having become lost on the way there. There is a coded security gate for entrance, and a pound a day charge if you have a visitor to your caravan. (actually my brother visited one evening and we couldn't find anyone to pay, though we did try).
Extremely clean, modern toilets, all in all a good holiday.
My only negative comment involves the price, we paid 17.50 per night for 6 nights which seemed a lot for two adults and two children in a caravan, even with electricity. I guess that will teach me to plan ahead next time!

This is a lovely site, large pitches and well spaced out, I wouldn't think it feels crowded even when full. We had the site nearly to ourselves mid week with a few more people arriving at the weekend. The facilities were kept clean and tidy. The staff are very friendly and helpful. There is a nice circular walk you can do which takes you down the road into the village and then back over the fields on a footpath with lovely views. Only one problem we found with the position of the site was that all the roads around it are very busy and for the most part having no footpaths, I can imagine it to be quite difficult dodging the traffic in the summer months when it's busy. There is a car boot sale on a Sunday just up the road. I can recommend the Gate pub for meals which is off the main road right in the village, the Sunday carvery was the best I have had anywhere, real home cooked food and I am hard to please when it comes to roast lunches, and the owners are really welcoming.

Lickpenny is a very good site particularly for this time of year, the hardstandings are fairly level and quite generous which will easily accomodate most units with an awning without difficulty (take rock pegs), hook ups are well placed and maintained, water and waste facilities well suited for winter use. There is a playarea which was only part operational and was under repair at time of visit.
A woodland walk is suitable for the exercising of dogs which leads from a gate neat the playground. The facilities are excellent the toilet blocks, one which is part of the reception building are clean and warm, the showers being free with plenty of hotwater.
The site is quite a walk from the village of Tansley and its two pubs (booking required at the Tavern) the road is busy and would be quite hazardous walking in the dark, however the garden centre close by serves breakfasts and lunch, although for days out Matlock has pubs, takeways (good chinese) and small supermarket is a short drive.
Would definitely visit again at any time of the year.

Just back from a 2 night stay last weekend. Very nice site, large, level hardstanding pitches. Pleanty of room to manoever which was good as we are novices at this really. As said previously shower blocks were clean and very spacious and also very warm which was a bonus on a cold weekend. Site is ideally placed for Matlock and other Derbyshire attractions. Feel sure we will return later in the year when wanting a short break near to home.

Just back from a one night stay here trying out our new pennine fiesta folding camper. This site is absolutley brilliant, the pitches are well laid out, in little pockets of two or three. The site is on a hill but all pitches flat and hardstanding so ideal for out of season touring.
The showers/bathrooms were really lovely, lots of space and nicely decorated and spotlessly clean! Very friendly staff on arrival, letting us have a wander round and pick our own pitch. Views great from the site, over the hills to matlock and riber castle. All in all a great site and we will certainly be going again as soon as possible!

A very nice site with big hard standing pitches. There was a Conway Rally on while we were there, so the site was very busy but they managed to squeeze us in.
The site is big and seems to have pockets of pitches all over the place, althougb it's quite hilly all the pitches are pretty level. There are 2 shower blocks on site whish were kept immaculately clean while we were there and even though the site was packed we never had to wait for a shower. The shower cubicles are very spacious with plenty of hot water at no extra charge, one thing I really liked in the toilet blocks were the soap dispensers, so many sites don't have them.
There is a nice play area for the kids, yas it could probably do with up-dating, but our 6 year old spent many hours enjoying herself with the other kids on the site.
Matlock is only 3 miles away where you will find plenty of shops including somerfield, kwik save & co-op. There is a lovely big park in Matlock with a nice paddling pool for the kids, also a train that you can ride on for 50p. Matlock bath just down the road offers many visitor attractions, including Gullivers Kingdonm and the Heights of Abraham. We will definitely return to Lickpenny next summer!

August 2005 Just come back from a weekend at this site. Very clean showers and toilets and well kept grounds. The pitches are very spacious, and great with being hard standing, no wet grass to walk through. We went home to fetch the bikes for the kids as the site is safe to ride around. Could not believe how peaceful it was even with kids there. a must go site.
