We decided to rent a gypsey pod which had just arrived at the campsite. The kids loved it n so did we for a change. They where well equiped n plenty warm enough. The facilities on the site are great. The pods where near washing up n shower n toilet blocks. All very clean. The site behind the pod was empty so plenty of space for the kids too play. The downside was if that field had of been full the site was that packed with tents there wouldn't have been anywhere too play. They did seem to be tents in every inch if the field we looked out onto. Thank goodness we had a pod as that kind of camping is not for ys but could be for some. The walk down to robin hoods bay brilliant, steep inplaces but great. All in all a great stay but luckily we had the pod as the camping side if we had our tent I think it could be a bit different. Clean n tidy but camping very squashed but pods a fab adventure

Me, my partner and our dog stayed here for 3 nights over the bank holiday weekend. It became very busy but not busy where we were squashed together, we put our tent up anywhere we wanted as long as it was in the top field. My concern with this was, the top field (at the very top) was quite a walk to the toilets, especially in the middle of the night when it was pitch black as there were no lights on the campsite anywhere only near the toilets itself.

The toilet block was always clean and stocked up with toilet roll. The showers were great and the temperatures were just right, the block had a mop bucket in so mucky foot prints in showers could be mopped away. The hair dryers in the womens were free! Which was a relief as I'd forgot to fetch my own. Their is also 2 plug sockets for straighteners, or phone chargers!

There was around 5 washing up sinks for pots which were always kept clean and tidy.

I don't think the site is actually that dog friendly to say we were charged £2 per night for her, there was nowhere for them to be let off the lead, like in a secure paddock, there wasn't any dog poop bins ANYWHERE not even on the paths to the beach! The dogs had to stay out of reception and weren't allowed in toilet blocks or showers. Which was hard for us as one of us always had to wait for the other while we stood outside with our dog, even in the rain.

I read a review on here that the food wagon was cheap, well I'm sorry but if 6. 95 is cheap for a chicken curry, I think I must be the worlds most tightest person! Its about that much in a pub! Even for a burger is was around 3. 95. I'm glad we took our own food and made our own meals!

There was also the bread and milk man. £2. 80odd for 8 breadcakes, are you having a laugh?! The food was just too expensive for my liking. Luckily if we needed anything, sainsbury's was only 10 minutes away by car.

One thing I did like about the campsite was its key coded to get in and out by car, BUT you cannot get in or out inbetween 22:45- 7:30 I think it was.

The no noise after 11. Friday night, their were campers still coming in after 10 so cars were switched on, things clanging, people talking all night. It rained all that night so all you heard was everyone else talking as they couldn't sleep, this was well into the early hours. Saturday night, everyone stuck to the 11pm curfew. But sunday night, talking was heard all night again and the lovely uni campers next door had us awake around 6:30am giggling, talking and taking their tent down ready to go home. I found it very ignorant of them to make so much noise at that time in a morning!

We cut through the reception bit to get to the beach so we passed the family campsite, it wasn't very big but seemed lovely for families with children and there was also a wooden park for the kids to play.

Be prepared walking down to the bay. The way back up, is literally up! Make sure your fit! On a good note though, their was a small fish/chip shop on the way which smelt beaut!

We also visited whitby itself, which I really enjoyed, I'd recommend visiting there for something different too.

The weather was always foggy and misty but once we got into whitby is was warmer, it felt a lot colder at campsite.

I would recommend this campsite to everyone but if I was to go again, I'd want a spot with electric so I wasn't so far away from the facilities, just for on a night. Its not fun needing the loo in a onsie!

Packed, cramped together and very little pitch space, shame as it's in a good position, close to Robin Hoods Bay There are actually 4 fields, but despite this the majority of tents were packed on to one large field.

Noisy and despite the signs for no groups, there was, causing noise disturbance.

At times toilets lacked toilet roll, so take your own.

Would visit again if they sorted out the position of the pitches and the closeness to the next.

Location wise this site is excellent and on this alone I would return. Robin Hoods Bay is a steep descent from the public car park, but there is an easy 10 minute walk from the site. To put this in context we did this on many occasions with a push chair and our 3 year old son. The facilities are adequate, but I would expect to see a shop for basics (although a van for bread/milk did arrive everyday). Using freezer blocks was not great either as there is no option to use your own and changing over blocks is restricted to 9. 30am-6pm. The main area for improvement would be to manage their site rules better. While silence is expected at 11pm this was not managed by a warden and one group did cause disruption to the family field one evening. It was only due to feedback from campers that action was taken in the morning. Room for improvement, but I would still recommend to family campers.

First visit, will not be our last. Just the two of us placed in the top field, far from the madding crowd. 2 nights. Excellent facilities spotlessly clean. Everyone catered for from babes in arms to the more mature guests. Would not hesitate to recommend. We arrived Friday afternoon and were pleased to see a professional approach from reception to the site warden. Security barrier access. On site chuck wagon ice cream van and even an early morning egg and milk delivery. Superb.

Our impromptu visit to Middlewood left us wishing we could stay longer! It has to be one of the most relaxed camping weekends we've had.

As a single parent with 2 children I sometimes feel the odd one out BUT not here. Surrounded by friendly couples/families, there was a good atmosphere here. I hardly saw my children as they took full advantage of the play area to make new friends.

All facilities were immaculately clean and I never had to queue.

Robin Hoods Bay is about a 10 minute walk, & well worth it. The village bakery/butchers is also worth a walk in Fylingthorpe - they also do pizza delivery.

Highly recommended. No complaints. We will return!

We used this site for our first camping trip, We were very impressed the facilities were clean and available considering how busy it was. The area is lovely Robin Hoods Bay is a short walk, although I think it is a little longer than the 10 minutes described. We found it very quiet on a night(after11pm) which was very good. Would we use this site again. Definitely, would we recommend our friends and family try it. Most certainly!

We stayed at Middlewood Farm after a recommendation from a neighbour. What a lovely site it was!

The facilities were very good and very clean.

There were more tents than caravans, in several different areas, but that was no problem at all.

Plenty of walks to do. One walk was through a field, then a wooded area and came out in the bottom of Robin Hoods Bay near the little chip shop. You can also walk along the disused railway line into the old Robin Hoods Bay station and on to the Cleveland Way or to the little shop for provisions.

We ate out several times at various places all within reasonable walking distance.

All in all we had a really good holiday and can't wait to return in August!

Thank you Middlewood Farm!

I visited this site with my friend for a week at the start of June. We found the site from this website & took a punt.

The site is easily found and nestled in a lovely & quiet spot on the outskirts of the village, but within walking distance to the pub (a little pricey however) & about 10-15 mins walk into Robin Hoods Bay either via road or footpath.

The site is clean and tidy and the grass was regularly being cut. When we arrived it was very quiet, yet as it was sunny, it gradually filled up throughout the week. We were placed onto the second field across the small lane from the main building. Staff were friendly and you can charge anything you need to at 50p per item in the main reception (handy for mobile phones when you do not have EHU).

The toilets/showers in the block that we had were clean, tidy and modern and we never had to queue to use them-even during the busier weekend. The showers have an automatic turn on when you walk in front of the head & last for about 5 mins. The dishwashing basins are located under cover by the side of the toilets and are really good; all have hot water when you need it. There are further toilets/showers/laundry room in the main block near reception although we did not use them. The main bins/recycling points are at the second field's entrance and easy to get to on your way out for the day. There was EHU although we did not use one.

There was a potential negative in that signs state 'no noise after 11pm' which is fine but in the close proximity of tents during busy periods, I can imagine this could cause a problem from people simply chatting and voices carrying-simply because it is such a quiet location. Another possible issue is that unless you are staying for 6 nights or over you cannot prebook-which is a long drive to potentially be told that they are full. We did find the site to be very good/excellent although the 5star rating displayed, did seem a little generous-especially when compared to Kennegy cove campsite in Cornwall.

The walk to Robin Hoods Bay is easy (even in the dark on the way back when you have forgotten your torch!) down the footpath from the campsite & the pubs in the village have a nice menu/drinks although we found them to be quite pricey, especially for the latter. If you walk up the hill there are a further two pubs (one is a hotel bar) where the drinks are more competitively priced & one of them opens until late. We did not come across much of a selection of local ales however-which was a bit of let-down, though most have wifi access which easily makes up for it.

The coastal path is right there too & you can walk to Ravenscar where there is a hotel with a bar which welcomes walkers & the old railway brings you right back to the campsite gate (about 8-10 miles all in I reckon) or walk in the other direction to Whitby-There is some stunning scenery & a nice pub in Hawsker which is about half way there & serves food. Whitby is beautiful with lots of independent shops and small streets & further up the coast is Sandsend where you can park & go on some lovely coastal & inland walks from-bear in mind that Mulgrave Castle grounds are only open to the public on Weds & weekends & not at all in May (that one caught us out-it was Thursday!). Dalby forest is nearby with its various activities on offer and the Bridestones Reserve within & a few miles out of Sleights and you are on the open moorland with wide views and lovely valleys.

One thing about this part of the country is how friendly the locals are-no matter where you go, they cannot seem to do enough for you-which we really appreciated. All in all, a lovely site & recommended.

 Just spent a week at this site - 2 adults and 2 boys aged 14 & 11.

Excellent site - highly recommended.

The site is split either side of the farmhouse but only the larger field for tourers and tents had a barrier. This is across a country road. I guess because the small family field we were on is next to the farmhouse, this makes a barrier there a bit unnecessary.

There is also some new static caravans on a separate part of the farm - I mention this as there was a second play area here with climbing frame and small field, which older children may find worthwhile.

Reception was helpful on arrival and took us to our pitch. We were on the small family field with electric hook up. Tents quite close together but you can't expect a field to yourself. No problems with pitch size - we have a standard Montana 6P. No problems with electric hook up and we ran a low wattage heater, kettle, lights and chargers.

Toilet facilities were warm, clean, spacious and we had no problems with queues. Hand dryer a bit underwhelming but that was only criticism. Dish washing facilities were adequate.

No problems with noise on site - just kids being kids and playing. Its part of the fun of camping. Certainly no loutish behaviour.

No shop on site and local convenience store in village has closed down. But this was not a problem as a van comes round each day selling basics - cereal, milk etc. The gentleman who ran this also came round the site in an ice cream van, a welcome sight on arrival whilst we were toiling to put tent up in the sun. And the 'Great Griddler' van at the entrance to the main field does breakfasts, and evening meals some nights. We had a few meals from this and food was excellent (5 star food agency rating) and reasonably priced. Lady and gent running these outlets were really friendly and chatty. Large Sainsbury on outskirts of Whitby if you need a bigger shop and petrol.

Campsite is excellently located. 5 minute walk across gravel path to Robins Hood Bay with 3 pubs, tea rooms and fish & chip shop. Small convenience store up the hill with further hotel restaurants/bars, so you are spoilt for choice really. We had a nice lunch at Swell, which is hidden along the cobbled back paths. We also tried chip shop which did a roaring trade and was really good. Beach and views brilliant, and plenty of opportunity for fossil hunting and rock pool searching.

The Fylingdales Inn in the village where the campsite is was great for a drink but a bit expensive for food.

If you walk along Cleveland Way to Boggle Hole there is a YHA cafe and bar, which again was good for lunch.

Cycle trail goes past campsite and you can bike all the way to Whitby or Scarborough on a cinder path. We hired bikes from site at Hawsker and had a great time. Views along the trail were amazing.

Whilst there we also visited Whitby (15 minutes drive) which has a lovely old town. Went to Scarborough (45 minute drive) but its a bit run down, although views from Castle are excellent. York was well over an hour away but national Railway museum was excellent and free. And we went on North York Moors railway to Goathland, which was great.

We will definitely return here although we hope for better weather. Being between the sea and moors there were a couple of days when thick fog obscured everything and temperatures plummeted to 8 degrees. Typical British weather.
