I visited this site with my friend for a week at the start of June. We found the site from this website & took a punt.
The site is easily found and nestled in a lovely & quiet spot on the outskirts of the village, but within walking distance to the pub (a little pricey however) & about 10-15 mins walk into Robin Hoods Bay either via road or footpath.
The site is clean and tidy and the grass was regularly being cut. When we arrived it was very quiet, yet as it was sunny, it gradually filled up throughout the week. We were placed onto the second field across the small lane from the main building. Staff were friendly and you can charge anything you need to at 50p per item in the main reception (handy for mobile phones when you do not have EHU).
The toilets/showers in the block that we had were clean, tidy and modern and we never had to queue to use them-even during the busier weekend. The showers have an automatic turn on when you walk in front of the head & last for about 5 mins. The dishwashing basins are located under cover by the side of the toilets and are really good; all have hot water when you need it. There are further toilets/showers/laundry room in the main block near reception although we did not use them. The main bins/recycling points are at the second field's entrance and easy to get to on your way out for the day. There was EHU although we did not use one.
There was a potential negative in that signs state 'no noise after 11pm' which is fine but in the close proximity of tents during busy periods, I can imagine this could cause a problem from people simply chatting and voices carrying-simply because it is such a quiet location. Another possible issue is that unless you are staying for 6 nights or over you cannot prebook-which is a long drive to potentially be told that they are full. We did find the site to be very good/excellent although the 5star rating displayed, did seem a little generous-especially when compared to Kennegy cove campsite in Cornwall.
The walk to Robin Hoods Bay is easy (even in the dark on the way back when you have forgotten your torch!) down the footpath from the campsite & the pubs in the village have a nice menu/drinks although we found them to be quite pricey, especially for the latter. If you walk up the hill there are a further two pubs (one is a hotel bar) where the drinks are more competitively priced & one of them opens until late. We did not come across much of a selection of local ales however-which was a bit of let-down, though most have wifi access which easily makes up for it.
The coastal path is right there too & you can walk to Ravenscar where there is a hotel with a bar which welcomes walkers & the old railway brings you right back to the campsite gate (about 8-10 miles all in I reckon) or walk in the other direction to Whitby-There is some stunning scenery & a nice pub in Hawsker which is about half way there & serves food. Whitby is beautiful with lots of independent shops and small streets & further up the coast is Sandsend where you can park & go on some lovely coastal & inland walks from-bear in mind that Mulgrave Castle grounds are only open to the public on Weds & weekends & not at all in May (that one caught us out-it was Thursday!). Dalby forest is nearby with its various activities on offer and the Bridestones Reserve within & a few miles out of Sleights and you are on the open moorland with wide views and lovely valleys.
One thing about this part of the country is how friendly the locals are-no matter where you go, they cannot seem to do enough for you-which we really appreciated. All in all, a lovely site & recommended.

Just spent a week at this site - 2 adults and 2 boys aged 14 & 11.
Excellent site - highly recommended.
The site is split either side of the farmhouse but only the larger field for tourers and tents had a barrier. This is across a country road. I guess because the small family field we were on is next to the farmhouse, this makes a barrier there a bit unnecessary.
There is also some new static caravans on a separate part of the farm - I mention this as there was a second play area here with climbing frame and small field, which older children may find worthwhile.
Reception was helpful on arrival and took us to our pitch. We were on the small family field with electric hook up. Tents quite close together but you can't expect a field to yourself. No problems with pitch size - we have a standard Montana 6P. No problems with electric hook up and we ran a low wattage heater, kettle, lights and chargers.
Toilet facilities were warm, clean, spacious and we had no problems with queues. Hand dryer a bit underwhelming but that was only criticism. Dish washing facilities were adequate.
No problems with noise on site - just kids being kids and playing. Its part of the fun of camping. Certainly no loutish behaviour.
No shop on site and local convenience store in village has closed down. But this was not a problem as a van comes round each day selling basics - cereal, milk etc. The gentleman who ran this also came round the site in an ice cream van, a welcome sight on arrival whilst we were toiling to put tent up in the sun. And the 'Great Griddler' van at the entrance to the main field does breakfasts, and evening meals some nights. We had a few meals from this and food was excellent (5 star food agency rating) and reasonably priced. Lady and gent running these outlets were really friendly and chatty. Large Sainsbury on outskirts of Whitby if you need a bigger shop and petrol.
Campsite is excellently located. 5 minute walk across gravel path to Robins Hood Bay with 3 pubs, tea rooms and fish & chip shop. Small convenience store up the hill with further hotel restaurants/bars, so you are spoilt for choice really. We had a nice lunch at Swell, which is hidden along the cobbled back paths. We also tried chip shop which did a roaring trade and was really good. Beach and views brilliant, and plenty of opportunity for fossil hunting and rock pool searching.
The Fylingdales Inn in the village where the campsite is was great for a drink but a bit expensive for food.
If you walk along Cleveland Way to Boggle Hole there is a YHA cafe and bar, which again was good for lunch.
Cycle trail goes past campsite and you can bike all the way to Whitby or Scarborough on a cinder path. We hired bikes from site at Hawsker and had a great time. Views along the trail were amazing.
Whilst there we also visited Whitby (15 minutes drive) which has a lovely old town. Went to Scarborough (45 minute drive) but its a bit run down, although views from Castle are excellent. York was well over an hour away but national Railway museum was excellent and free. And we went on North York Moors railway to Goathland, which was great.
We will definitely return here although we hope for better weather. Being between the sea and moors there were a couple of days when thick fog obscured everything and temperatures plummeted to 8 degrees. Typical British weather.

Ideally located with a 10/15 min walk in to Robin Hoods Bay.
Good first impression. Quickly through the booking in process and quickly shown to pitch. The place itself and the organisation is spot on. There is in my opinion adequate shower/toilet facilities, pot washing sinks and daft little touches such as bricks to use for bbqs.
My gripe, and this was my first camping holiday so to speak, too many kids running round, playing ball, screaming etc etc. So great for families but not for those who are child intolerant. This was morning noon and night.
We were in the main field which was tightly packed with good tent/car parking space management. But it did feel like a refugee camp, too close to everyone else so you heard farting and snoring all night so I apologise for the missus's manners. No, it was everyone else close by.
What was needed was a German machine gun post situated in the middle of the site and if you made a noise before 8am you were shot by a noise police sniper!
So, the site itself can't be faulted, only the people who chose to get pissed and spout off their big mouths til whatever time. Like I said, this was my first camping experience and will in future find, if there is such a thing, a adult only campsite. Haha and not one of those funny ones, her indoors wouldn't approve.

We have camped here for the last four years and have found the site to be family friendly. There are two fields one as you enter the farm (don't be put off by the sight of a big grey barn in front of you) which is the family field with a play area. Follow the road round to another field
Which caters for both tents and caravans. There are toilet/washing/shower facilities on both areas. There is also a catering van on caravan site for breakfast sandwiches and drinks.
There is both a shop and pub in the village and a nice walk into Robin hoods bay from the camp site.
I have no hesitation in recommending the site, [please note: you have to pay for internet access and to freeze ice blocks]

We had an excellent stay at this site really enjoyed the long wk end with the family.
The site is really well located just a short walk into the bay where the kids loved having a rake about in the rock pools catching all sorts.
The site toilet blocks were clean and very good.
Only slight criticism was the children's park was small and a little ran down.
Would definitely return to this site to this site one day.

This is an excellent site for camping in a tent. We have visited this site four times in two years as we love it so much. It would be ideal for you if you have young children, or children who enjoy simple things in life.
The Site's facilities include two shower blocks and a children's play park in the family field. The shower blocks are lovely and warm with hot running water, but just note that the showers Re on a timer, so make sure you wash your hair quick! They are cleaned regularly throughout the day and the staff are really friendly, willing to help with any problems or enquiries you may have. The play park is only small but a big winner with my 6&8 year old kids.
This site is a working farm, and a nice scenic stroll through their cow fields takes you to the bottom of Robin Hood's Bay, right to a lovely fish and chip shop. There are plenty of places to eat and drink down in the bay, and lots of quirky little trinket and souvenir shops. Check the tide times with the site reception, as when the tide goes out, there are lots of little rock pools for the kids to go crabbing in.
In the village itself there is a well stocked shop and a pub with play area, which is a hit with the kids. The pub does lovely food, but the kids menu isn't all that great.
On site there is a burger van, which is open weekends and bank holidays, and all week in school holidays. She serves breakfast and evening meals, which are all fantastic. Hardly worth cooking, as food is so cheap and so delicious. Not your average burger van, she sells steak, gammon, curries. The steak is to die for and just melts in your mouth, the gammon is huge and could easily serve two kids.
Middlewood farm is a ten minute drive from Whitby and half an hour from Scarborough. Plenty of surrounding areas to see and explore and a really good base to do this from. We have just bought a caravan, and planning another trip, although, there aren't too many touring pitches so book in advance.

Overall, an excellent site with more good points than bad. Arrival was dealt with very quickly although unhappy about the surcharge for using a credit card.
Once supplied with a map of the site, we quickly found our hardstanding pitch. It is fortunate that we have an extra long mains hook-up lead as the supply was quite some distance from the pitch.
The site was very busy during our stay which led to long queues at the toilet blocks. I even had to wait for a urinal one morning! 4 showers in the block serving the caravan hardstandings and two large tent fields is woefully inadequate!
The showers were very good with a constant supply of hot water. They are timed to 5 minutes which is plenty of time.
On of my main concerns was the number of children playing around the toilet blocks which seemed to go unchecked by both the site wardens and the parents.
The other concern was the age of some children allowed to use other sex facilities. Boys as old as 9 to 10 were using the womens toilets and showers which is far too old in my opinion.
The site is superbly situated for exploring the surounding area. The cycle path (the old railway line)which runs from Whitby to Scarborough is just outside the camp and there are easy walks to either end of Robin Hood Bay.
The Bay has several pubs and restaurants, we dined at the Victoria Hotel which provides excellent bar meals along with a superb view of the surrounding area.
There is no on-site shop but there is a newly opened Sainsburys supermarket approx. 3 miles away just outside Whitby. We did not use the on-site hot food van but the smells of bacon and eggs was very tempting. The van was very busy and the prices seemed to be quite reasonable.
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at this site and would certainly go back.

The reception staff were very helpful on arrival. There were 4 of us staying in the top field. This field was fairly level and even though there were a lot of people in this field it was quiet and felt spacious. The other field had mainly families on and was a bit nosier but was quiet on an evening. A warden patrols the site in a van and helps with any queries. The views out to sea are excellent.
The facilities were excellent and clean even though the site was very busy. The washrooms get very busy so go early for a shower which are hot and free. There is a food van at the entrance to the site serving breakfast and evening meals.
For shopping there is a big Sainsbury's on the outskirts of Whitby or the local store in Flyingthorpe. The pub in Flyingthorpe (5 min walk) serves good food and is reasonable but gets busy with people from the campsite.
There is a nice walk from the campsite into Robin Hoods Bay (10/15 mins) and there are a few more decent pubs here. We ate in Ye Dolphin and the food was excellent and reasonable. There is also a chippy here.
We walked into Whitby from the campsite (8miles) and returned by bus (X93) which stops in Flyingthorpe.
This is an excellent site, very family friendly and in a lovely part of Yorkshire. I can highly recommend it and will definitely going back.

I have just returned from a three day break at this site and wished it could have been longer. Well organised and friendly; with top quality wash facilities and toilets.
There is a well marked path to both village, to beach and to cycle route.
Robin Hoods Bay itself is just fifteen minutes away along an attractive woodland walk and is chock full of all types of pub and small restaurants.
No complaints. Sheep and seagulls a touch noisy, but this is the countryside after all.

We spent a weekend at this site as our usual nearby haunt was fully booked (that will teach us!)
We were sent to an overspill field at the bottom of the site which was quite some distance from the toilet block, but away from what seemed to be the busy family field.
The field we were in was quiet most of the time apart from an 'incident' one afternoon when someone was playing music intrusively loud as opposed to a bit of background music. Fortunately, this was promptly dealt with by the warden.
However, other site rules were disobeyed and not enforced namely a couple of vehicles exceeding the 10mph speed limit and cycling, scooters etc. Near the toilet blocks.
As for the toilet block, the capacity was inadequate for the number of pitches on site. I never got the chance to use the showers (after paying £10 per night for the privilege) as there was constantly a queue, even at what are usually off-peak times. I ended up using the washing-up bowl in my tent to get a wash.
There was often a queue for the toilets as well. Also, it was difficult to get to the basins just to wash my hands as there were a lot of people taking up space around the basins with toiletries spread everywhere.
I didn't use the takeaway, so I can't comment on that.
Robin Hood's Bay was at it's gorgeous best, as was Whitby. It's a wonderful walk between the two. If only the buses back ran a bit later.
Will I return to this site? I'm not in any hurry to do so.
