Very nice site. Not that big but well managed and good facilities. No noise allowed after 11pm with the manager enforcing this. Very clean and tidy shower and washing up facilities and a nice kids play area which is contained and can be kept in view from most points on the site. Very helpful staff. Lovely walk down to the bay with some great fish and chips!
Pitches a little pricey would be my only comment, but I would still go back. Best to book ahead as it can get quite busy.

Just returned from this site today after spending the August Bank Holiday weekend at this site (£17.50 per night with EHU). We stayed in the smaller field opposite reception and even though the field was jam-packed with a mixture of motor-homes and tents, there were no problems. However, the larger, lower touring field (there is no EHU for tents in this field) was packed even more and the tents seemed far too close (but I guess that is to be expected on a Bank holiday??) but then again I didn't hear any grumbles so it couldn't have been too much of a problem. As far as the amenities are concerned, the upper shower block had 3 cubicles and was kept clean and tidy and I never saw any mess for any period of time so full marks to that. There is no shop on site, but a short 7 minute walk into the village takes you to the shop / post office which sells about anything you could ask for. There is also a village pub which is child friendly. The walk to Robin Hood's Bay is through the cow fields and takes about 15 minutes. A word of warning about this though ! If you are unfit don't attempt it ! It is quite steep in parts and I would imagine that the path would be quite treacherous after bad weather. Robin Hood's Bay is also one of the steepest places around too and I saw one unfortunate chap burn out his clutch when trying to reverse his car back up the narrow streets ! If you are fit however, the views are worth the climb. One point I would imagine that may be of concern, is that because this is an extremely hilly area, caravan towing may be a pretty big problem, so be aware !

Lovely Area and good park, helpful staff and shown to our pitch, but then several groups arrived at the same time and we were pitched far too close together in the overflow field which was by no means full, difficult not to fall over other tents and not much space for kids to play. Fantastic Showers and Loo's very clean. Rather expensive for a family of 2 adults and 2 kids

Called ahead to try and book a pitch with elec hookup but was told that they had no availibility. We were passing through RHB so tried our luck. Turned out they had room and stayed 3 nights. Stayed on small field near kids play area which we thought was excellent. Facilities were excellent and staff were very friendly! We will definitely go back!

Having booked this site before reading the reviews I was a little apprehensive, but need not have worried as this was an excellent site. We had booked a pitch for our tent with an electric hookup together with a private bathroom for the bargain price of £4 extra. It is true that the tents are very close together but that was expected given the reviews. The pitches with electric hook up were reasonably spacious. The site is in a lovely location just a few minutes walk to a nice pub in Flyingthorpe and 10 minutes to Robin Hoods Bay. Although it was very busy it was completely quiet after 11 pm. We were on the field near to reception there was a small play area which our children enjoyed and we could see them from our tent which was great. I would stay on this site again but would ask for pitch 4, 5 or 6 which, in my opinion, are the best.

This was our second visit to this site, our first almost exactly a year ago. Gone are the grotty portaloos and the grumpy staff, in their place, a slightly more chipper fella and a beautiful big new toilet block in the lower touring field. This was so new, only two of the five of six showers were open, and the pot-wash was being completed as we were there.
For both of our visits we stayed in the bottom touring field, across a little road in front of the reception. There is a smaller field in front of the reception, near the kiddies play area, that is also used for touring tents and cars. This, on both of our stays was hugely overcrowded, full of families with big tents, possibly because they wanted to be near the old, complete toilet blocks and the play area. However, I would suggest now actively requesting to go in the bigger touring field, the new facilities are much nicer, there's much more room, and it's generally much quieter.
I like this campsite, it's perfectly situated for a trundle into Whitby and the little trail down to Robin Hood's Bay has been updated since we last been, with a new wooden walkway making the steepest bit much easier, word of warning, wait a little while after filling your face in Ye Dolphin, as I discovered, walking back with awful heartburn and indigestion after being greedy isn't easy!

Just done a quick overnight here and it was busy. They have just built a new £150000 toilet/shower/wash house block to service the furthest field and i've got to say they are probably the cleanest toilets in the country(see what its like after a season though). Hot water was not on the menu but was planned within a week or two We were a bit cramped and there seemed to be no pre planned layout leaving not much space for the kids to play. I thought £21.50 for 1 tent 1 car 2 adults and 2 kids under 10 was a bit steep to say the least. Best thing is leave the car and take a short walk to the beach (Robin hoods bay, if you can call it a beach) chippy, shops, pubs, ice cream van. We will go back for short breaks as its not far for us to travel.

August 2005 I spent 2 nights here. As this was the high season there were a lot of tents on this site. However it did not feel uncomfortably cramped. The site owners are friendly and helpful.
I would go again to this site - theres a nice walk to the bay and its in beautiful surroundings and close to many lovely places. I would recommend a visit to Fylingdales church - redundant now but a lovely contented simple little building with a peaceful feeling to it. Runswick Bay is very pretty and the fish and chip van which parks at Sandsend does great fish and chips!

July 2005 We visited this site on a hot July weekend and found the reception to be friendly and welcoming. They do not take bookings for tents unless you need an elec hook-up, and these are quickly taken. I did phone in advance and was assured by the site that they had not turned anyone away all season, but it was still a bit un-nerving driving from Merseyside without being able to book a pitch first.
Bear in mind this is a working farm, with all the accompanying sounds and smells. There is no shop on site, although I think you can get a few essentials from reception.
There are shops close by in any case. Although there does not appear to be a cash machine in the vicinity, if you pay for your stay by debit card, the reception will give you the option of taking ‘cash-back’.
The shower blocks were spotlessly clean. There are free hot showers with a seat in each cubicle. The hair dryer is operated with a 20p coin. You can freeze ice packs for 30p each, and borrow them for a £1 deposit. There is a small rustic children’s playground that kept our 4-year-old amused. A cycle track runs adjacent to the site and from the map would appear to run from Whitby to Scarborough. The site has a laundry with a washing machine operated by two £1 coins. Washing powder is available from the reception. There is a rack outside the shower block containing leaflets advertising all the local attractions.
A 15 minute stroll through farmer’s fields and a small wood takes you to the beautiful Robin Hoods Bay. There are two stiles and a very steeply stepped wooden bridge to navigate (the joiner has appeared to have missed out every second step). With restaurants, pubs, a café bar, chip shop and ice cream van you will not go hungry. The beach is dark and gritty and is best known for crabbing in its rock pools in low tide (a list of high tides are published at the camp site). This is an extremely picturesque village that more than makes up for any of the campsites limitations. The view of the coastline on a clear day is fantastic.
We will definitely be returning to Middlewood Farm

July 2005 There have been a few improvements to this already excellent site this year. The playground on the smaller 'family' field now has a better playing surface and a surrounding fence has been built. Some swings have also been added. It was good to see the site owner clear the playground at sundown. The shower block and dishwashing facilities are still up to a high standard but you may have to queue at peak times.
Our favourite site and in an excellent location. There is a decent pub with a play area a short walk away. Whitby, Scarborough and the North Yorks. Moors are also a short drive away.
