Overall we thought this was a brilliant site. We were in the familly field by the farm house which is really close to the toilet/ shower block, and where there is a small playground.
Showers - clean, piped music, no queues and loads of hot wtaer. No fees/ tokens etc.
11.00pm 'no noise' rule was observed by all which is a refreshing change compared to some sites we have been on. 10 minutes over the fields to the bottom of the bay (not suitable for buggies), or 15 minutes part path/ part road to the top of the bay which is suitable for buggies. No shop but village store is only 10 mins walk away.
Only issue we had was the private bathrooms for hire - we had one for 3 days of our week stay - don't bother! they are not worth the £5 day extra - just a shower toilet and sink in a room which is smelly and damp and you have to keep clean yourself! only advantage is that you can leave your towels and wash stuff in there.
Overall a very good family site and I would highly recommend it.

It was a last minute decision to go to Middlewood Farm and we were pleased that our 2 parties (in 2 large tents) were able to get pitches on the site in the high season. From reviewing the website, we had high expectations, and these were met for the first couple of days. However, come Friday when the number of campers dramatically increased, the standards of the communal amenities fell. From Friday to Sunday (when we left) the toilets and showers were not cleaned once, resulting in a muddy, sandy, smelly experience for all. Not the best when on your own let alone with children!
It wasn't all bad though. The walk to Robin Hoods Bay and the beach only took us about 10 minutes and took us straight into the Bay. However, it was quite a steep walk back up to the site, which was unexpected from the website. Additionally, it was definitely not a level walk to the shop, with a hill at the end!
We can highly recommend the local Hare and Hounds pub, which was about a 10 minute drive away towards Whitby. The staff were very hospitable and the food was home-cooked. Overall an excellent service and experience!
The playground at the site was good, and the children enjoyed playing there each night - it was obviously popular with all as it was busy every night.
We would consider using the site again, but on a Monday to Friday basis, thus avoiding the overload at the weekend.

We've been to this site quite a few times back in the late 90's but visited again in August last year.
There is a small field near the house which has a small children's play area. This is usually reserved for families who are staying for a long time. The other main field is on the other side of the lane. This is a large field with no pitches - you are free to pitch anywhere. We found that people pitched very close and we couldn't use the back door of our tent as someone had pitched right outside.
There were two other fields next door that were opened just for the weekend.
Toilet facilities OK. Not enough showers but queues not too long. I headed across the road to the other block. Here there are private bathrooms to hire.
There is no shop on site but a good village store in the village about a 10 minute walk.
The site is a 10 minute walk to the beach at Robin Hood's Bay and right on the edge of the cycle path which goes all the way along the coast to Whitby and beyond.
Overall, a good site, but busy at weekends.

We were hoping to get in up the hill at Hooks House Farm, but it was full. So we went down through the village to Middlewood. I wish I could agree with some of these excellent reviews, but I'm afraid I can't. We were pitched by a warden close to the next tent, and before long we had tents on either side and behind that were so close we could here each other breathing. The showers were inadequate for the number of people staying, and the toilets were not serviced anywhere near as often as they should have been. Great for dogs though. Lots of off-the-lead running space just over the road from the site. Also, staff are fantastic, polite and friendly, and if you can find a nicer pint than down in the Harbour at RHB, I'll be surprised. The fish at the chippy in RHB is delicious too.

We have just got back from 5 nights at this site and have had a fantastic time. Camping with a 2 year old and a 5 year old can be a little stressful at times - but this site made it a dream.
The toilets were always warm and clean. The showers hot and we only had to queue once to use them.
The play park is designed for older children, but there was plenty of farm activity (and kittens) to keep the 2 year old occupied.
The walk to Robin Hood's Bay was interesting the first time (we were told that is was suitable for buggies - I wouldn't recommend it) However, with a bit of persuasion (a visit to the chippy at the bottom of the path) and a bit of patience this walk was done a few times by the 2 year old.
The village shop (only 5 minutes walk) is well stocked and directly opposite the village pub which has a good beer garden and playpark.
The walk to Robin Hood's Bay along the main road was also easy and more suitable for the buggy.
We're going to take the bikes next time as Network Route 1 runs alongside the site.
Really good site - would highly recommend.

The facilities on this site are exactly as advertised - beautifully appointed shower and toilet blocks gorgeous wash hand areas and hair driers- even a bath to hire- laundry and wash up areas under cover- good and informative reception area and friendly staff.
There is a pub about 10 mins walk away up a slight hill with a small shop for papers and groceries opposite. However about 20 mins further walk is the Robin Hood Bay two more pubs and a bistro and the best pub The Bay Hotel at the bottom of a steep gradient hill- no cars down but worth the walk. As the campsite has its own path 15mins down to the Bay you can do the circuit, walk to the Bay by road and back up to the campsite by the short cut. However you need to be fit and sober its is quite a slogg- not suitable for older or disabled persons.
The location is great its only a few miles to Whitby and Scarborough use the car or go by bus from the top road only 10 mins walk away- fares are a bit pricey so go for the day ticket £5.50- can use this on all buses the the area for the day. North York Moorland drives near by with plenty of good priced food to be had- especially fish and chips. Best food in Whitby we found at The Shambles- great view over the harbour from the balcony there.
Excellent site, beautiful views, very clean and well kept and no noise after 11pm, the only draw back was that you are pitched by a warden on arrival so no real choice where you go in relation to the toilet blocks etc. When we arrived as a couple with a 9ftX12ft tent we were directed to The Top Field- about 300-400yrds away from the closest toilet and shower block yet we saw spaces close to it that were still free- can only imagine that these were kept for extra large tents for which the site does advertise a surcharge- didn't like to question it as all in all a great site but it isn't made clear on the website that it appears that smaller tents are pitched away from the premium pitches. Good site so don't let this put you off, just means you really need to be prepared to walk quiet a way for the loo! Can be a queue for the showers in the central block but never in the first one near reception so head for this one rather than wait. The onsite Great Griddler is great food and great prices vey handy if you want eat on site especially on leaving day- Breakfast bap- £300- bacon, egg, sausage and mushroom- yummy! Go try the site for yourself.

This was the second visit we've made to the site, this time we stayed in the large main field (last time we were lucky enough to stay in the smaller field behind the reception block)- we loved it even though the main field was really busy we didn't feel cramped or crowded. We took some first time campers with us (who had vowed never to camp) they loved it and have even agreed to come again!
The site is lovely, polite and efficient check in staff in reception, helpful guides who show you where to pitch, excellent toilet and shower facilities and set in a lovely location with a lovely walk to Robin Hoods Bay and what we unanimously voted the best chippie ever.
Great for families - everyone respects the no noise after 11.00pm (well almost and certainly within a few minutes).
A great place to stay and visit!

Arrived here the last week of July for a few days camping. I was a little worried at how crowded it was when the warden escorted us through the field, but suitably relieved when we were placed on the top field.
However, things seemed to go down from there. We were just feet from other tents, placed in straight lines in the first part of the field, despite the rest of the huge field being completely empty. Any space between tents was lost when the 'Little Englanders' set up their 'garden fences' of windbreaks to mark their territory.
The 11pm silence was enforced, but sadly any morning one wasn't. We were woken at 5am by a large group of young campers in two huge tents with noise.
The toilet block looked nice but sadly couldn't cope with the huge amount of tents and people staying. There was a patch of mud on a toilet wall which wasn't cleaned for two days. Just three urinals, half a dozen sinks and showers just wasn't enough for the hundreds of people on the three fields. My missus had to wait about an hour in a queue three deep for the showers. Surprisingly the men's toilet block on the farm was much quieter and cleaner.
Overall this is a potentially nice site, with a lovely ten minute walk to the beach and Robin Hood's Bay, but I felt like the owner was shoehorning too many people onto it, causing overcrowding. If you visit before you book don't be fooled into thinking that the camp ground is just the area in the farm complex, the main site is further down the road, past the farm, on a track on your right.

Just came back from a very enjoyable visit to this site. I haven't been camping for 20 years, after a bad experience of flooding in a 1 man tent, which was shared between 3 (put me off camping completely). Credit crunch and my husband studying for a year has meant we had to be more economical when planning a weekend without the kids. This site is ideal for couples and families, in fact we're thinking of returning next week with the kids. Toilet and shower facilities are fine. This weekend was extremely busy (we were 2nd to last to get a pitch), but even with such a high volume of people the facilities were acceptable. There's a van that sells breakfast and meals in the evening. So it was a welcome treat and relief not to have to start cooking in the morning and just ordering a delicious bacon sandwich instead. The walk down to Robin Hoods Bay was lovely, but could be a bit difficult in bad weather, it's quite steep in areas. I don't know if it was a concious decision by the owners or not, but on this visit we were more than happy to be pitched in the quieter far field, rather than in the hustle and bustle of the first field, which seemed full of big families. The pub in the nearby village is also really good for families, it has a good enclosed play area. There is a 2 night minimum stay, which we didn't realise, but that suited us anyway. On our second night there was a strange noise, like chanting coming from over the fields, it went on for probably an hour, but they very politely stopped at 11pm! It provided a great source of amusement, with fellow campers guessing what it could be - we guessed it could be anything from girl guides to pagans or witches and wizards playing quiddich! The owners were informative, friendly and professional - we'll definitely be visiting again!
